White Sox vs Cubs Game One Thread 5-20-05
sox-r-us replied to sox-r-us's topic in 2005 Season in Review
QUOTE(YASNY @ May 19, 2005 -> 05:07 PM) So you started a game thread on one of their 29 wins, as opposed to one of their 12 losses. I'm impressed Thanks for stating the obvious -
The next time any moron here defends Paulie over Frank, they can go to hell. I remember how some of these fools were kissing Paulie's behind when he called out Frank a few years back. Paulie is so over-rated it is not even funny. I wish we had traded him in the last offseason and signed Delgado instead.

Pin this mods.... I am 1-0 when I start game threads this year -
Things to consider: Kenny will make some trades. He does it every year. And his track record states he does it well before the deadline. Kenny is always after winning the world series. We may be the best team in the majors, but clearly when we play solid teams, we are NOT far and away the better team (see 4-3 record vs Os and Rangers last two series). The exception is the 4-1 record vs Minny. We will soon get more data on this front when we play Yanks, Bo Sox etc. Hence, expect some changes to this team (see above point too). Now, I hope in hell, we do not get Chavez and his salary here. We can spend $10M/year on far better options. We could make two upgrades with that kind of money than get Chavez here. I would do what I have always said. Trade for Vinny Castilla, and let Crede be a pinch hitter/bench for the playoffs. In the offseason look to trade Crede. By the time Vinny is done, Josh Fields will be ready. And we will spend 1/4 the $ to make this change. (Assuming Nats take some of Vinny's contract which is not that ig to begin with) With the $ saved, sign a solid 1B and let Paulie go. And get Frank a new contract for the next 2/3 years so that he retires a White Sox.

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 19, 2005 -> 06:59 AM) There is plenty of AJ love scattered thought PHT. But he deserves a thread. We have had threads on Buerhle, SHingo, Garland, El Duque, Count, Gooch, Pods, Frank, Paulie, Hermy, Marte, Vizcaino, Botch etc etc But none for AJ...

Nice tidbit on AJ in the Trib http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...tesox-headlines ========== By Mark Gonzales Tribune staff reporter May 18, 2005, 9:55 PM CDT A.J. Pierzynski earned special attention Wednesday by becoming the first White Sox player to hit a home run in four consecutive games since Carlos Lee did it in five straight contests two years ago. Pierzynski also garnered a double take after Wednesday's 7-0 victory over Texas because he was sporting auburn-colored contact lenses. "It's kind of cool, kind of different and will get you a second look," he said. Pierzynski said the contacts are different from the pair he wore a few times last year and in spring training while playing for San Francisco. He changed his prescription and actually wore the reddish-brown pair Sunday but didn't wear them again until Wednesday because of the sun. He said the auburn contacts are supposed to provide the same effect as sunglasses. "They say it's supposed to help you see the ball," said Pierzynski, who has seven hits in his last 20 at-bats. "We'll see." Pierzynski said Cincinnati closer Danny Graves and Baltimore second baseman Brian Roberts wear similar contacts. "It gets you some strange looks," Pierzynski said.

I am shocked there is no thread yet dedicated for this guy. He is turning out to be the best pick up we did in the offseason. 4 HRs in the last 4 games, and as it gets warmer, I expect him to continue with this power surge. On pace for 20+ HRs and his handling of the staff has been awesome. He is definitely responsible for a lot of Garland's break out party. AJ rocks.....sign him long term Kenny!!!!

THEY SAY THEY ARE CURSED WE AGREE -
Konerko pulled each of his three hits. But he also hooked a few drives that landed foul. Should he try to hit to the opposite field more often? "I'm a pull hitter," Konerko said. "I've been a pull hitter since I was 5. That doesn't mean I can't hit some balls the other way. ================= I hope we do not sign this guy in the offseason. :banghead http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines

Mark will give up some HRs tomorrow .... the key is can our hitting continue to score in the range of 5 to 7 runs....if yes, we will win -
Considering I started mine before the game ended, mine deserves to be treated as THE ONE

QUOTE(AirScott @ May 18, 2005 -> 02:11 AM) while we're at it, let's swing a trade for every player off to a hot start. get Konerko out of there, let's get Tino Martinez at first. Johnny Damon's batting .365, how about Rowand for Damon? or Jermaine Dye for Chipper Jones? (green means sarcastic, right?) Dumbass, you might want to read my posts again. I said let's wait until A/S break before going for him..... :headshake
