Jose Rodriguez has been one of the few top prospects to actually hold their own after a really rough start this year. It has been a graveyard for rookies partially due to the 2020-21 lack of reps…and ball change as well.

If you were stuck behind the Dodgers, Padres and Giants for the foreseeable future…and financially limited…acquiring Jimenez for two relatively expensive seasons vs. 6-7 cost-controlled of Alek Thomas, the roughly #30 MiLB prospect who can play anywhere in the OF and LH. Well, let’s just say if if if the 2015-2016 White Sox made the equivalent of that move, we would go insane. Yes, Jimenez could even have one 2008 Carlos Quentin season in him…but what are the odds of actually extracting it right now?

That combination of speed and power is also very special. Plus he’s a very charismatic, marketable player in the right city. Think Luis Robert but a much smaller 2B version of him. He oozes talent.

To me, Jimenez now has a pretty similar profile to Jorge Soler when the Cubs finally decided to cut bait with him…and they already went through the Yasmany Tomas experience.

The Rays have made some really strange moves, like selling low on both Adames and Cronenworth. The one really good one was dumping Snell early to the Padres. Then again, they turned Margot from a 4th outfielder to a very valuable piece. Like the Giants, they get the absolute most out of their lineups. And miss Franco dearly. The biggest problem seems to be running their pitchers into the ground and trying to compete in that incredibly-tough division.

What good would Jimenez do a rebuilding team that should be shedding Marte and Bumgarner and perhaps even Gallen? This is like another version of the Chisholm trade…although Thomas isn’t ever likely to be a 5+ fWAR guy.

They won’t do that until Harrison crashes back to reality again. He’s bought himself through the middle of July now.

Last time I checked, on pace for a 5 - 5.5ish fWAR. Would have been 2.5-2.75 last year had he played the full season. It’s as if Tim Anderson had broken out his second year instead of going into a sophomore slump. We can’t even manage to get Harrison’s 1.5 fWAR from last year or 2021 Madrigals’s extrapolated pace.

Well, also kind of a shot at Big Energy Harrison critics the last two days…granted, we have all been frustrated but suddenly he’s a huge difference maker. It was too early for Sosa and Yolbert Sanchez is always going to be a complimentary piece like a similarly-named Yolmer Sanchez at even his very best.

We shouldn’t keep trading guys in their primes for veterans in their 30’s. The Sox need the 4.5 fWAR Moncada to have any chance against the likes of the Yankees, ultimately. And Burger isn’t good enough defensively to hold down 3rd. He’s Josh Fields now.

The earliest he would be starting for the Sox would be at the end of the 2024-25 season, but more likely to start 2025. We might not even have TA7 on the roster at that point.
