Well arguably you have another righty in Kelly coming soon to replace Lopez. Seems like Keuchel gets at least 2-3 more starts...(simultaneously dependent on how VV and Cueto are looking.) But it's certainly the most logical move available to Hahn at the moment.

Yeah, he was dominant two nights ago against Baltimore. Tonight, not so much. Rookies have to make adjustments...because the league and especially advance scouts will quickly find their weaknesses and exploit them.

The Jarred Kelenic Appreciation Thread
caulfield12 replied to Harold's Leg Lift's topic in The Diamond Club
Uh oh benched for the unforgettable Dylan Moore in what feels like an important game for Seattle. -
Subway Series talk already breaking out in NYC.
-
Carlos Correa got hit by two pitches (had to be removed), team Covid outbreak and they have Ober's replacement...Winder, going tmrw. Also, Guardians 1/2 game up on Sox after taking down Blue Jays.

Jhoan Duran just got torched by the Orioles for two consecutive homers. Looks like their closing situation isn't quite solidified after all.

Benetti doing MLB Sunday Peacock Games
caulfield12 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Tigers' games still, right? Yeah, one of the best memories of youth, along with Rooney and Wayne Hagen on the radio. Hawk and Wimpy the soundtrack of the 80s and 90s. -
Sure, those same two groups of pitchers that arguably had Kade McClure as their headliner were going to magically morph into Rays or Indians starting pitchers. With that line of thinking, his 109 Sox victories in 2022 prediction seems a bit conservative.

Having witnessed the 2003 season, the White Sox are simply not going to bring all these obscure AAA/AA guys up for tryouts and eat Keuchel's deal after just 4-5 starts. They have to go with the guy who provides the best odds of at least eating 3-4 innings per game to keep from decimating the bullpen. The Twins (based on the total ease of upcoming schedule) will have some type of lead heading into June. The Sox will have to make it up the final four months of the season when the offense and weather heat up. It's also looking increasingly likely the Guardians will be a very dangerous team, especially at home.

Why? -
The comparison is in terms of overall impacts on their teams the last two Aprils...nobody would have predicted the Guardians to have such a competitive offense.
-
He might be lucky to match Madrigal for homers...but he's their 2022 Yermin. Guardians carrying over good vibes into a dressing down of Berrios tonight.
-
Plus the change of pace going from Ohtani to back of the Sox rotation...that should count for something.
-
Sounds like the plot for the next Nick Cage movie...a merging of Pig and Prisoners of the Ghostland meets Ozark/Better Call Saul.

Benetti doing MLB Sunday Peacock Games

Actually one could argue that Benetti’s schtick goes more towards the 35-50 year old audience. Not sure he’s beloved by teenagers, but a focus group of them after watching Sox games for a week would be enlightening. Don’t see it as geriatrics vs. the two utes (Gerry Callo/Gallo voice of Joe Pesci) at all. -

You rang? Well, this year I (for one) am not going to be the one to summon back his thread after watching the Kelenic debacle go down like a train wreck in slow motion. (For the record, I do think all the picking on Hosmer finally inspired him to perform better.) -
Are you sure they weren’t confused with Spotify?

Dodgers generally know what they are doing...other than signing Bauer, letting Yordan Alvarez get away and holding onto Turner too long.

https://www.mlb.com/news/best-player-for-each-mlb-team-in-april-2022 Could have gone with Cease or Kopech as well...nothing about his defense or lack thereof brought up at least.

Sano has been one of the worst hitters in baseball, almost Leury bad. They have lost 2 of their last 14 so it's hard to conclude their pitching is coming back to earth based on one Bundy start and Ober being on the IL for a start or two.

As long as Boston doesn't wear those hideous yellow jerseys we should be okay. And no Giolito Massacre at Fenway. Keuchel or VV, though...

Old Sock Drawer, ex Sox player discussion
caulfield12 replied to elrockinMT's topic in The Diamond Club
This 100%. That we're now parsing Johnny Cueto Charlotte starts (not good tonight) and hoping/praying for VV to morph into 2003 Esteban Loiaza doesn't bode particularly well. We managed to transform a dynamic exciting young core into a team relying on "just one more year" performances out of Abreu, Pollock, Grandal, Lynn, Harrison, Leury, Kelly (better be more!), Keuchel, etc. Not to mention Gavin Sheets following in the footsteps of Delmonico and Palka. Let's not even get started on how deflating TLR is...although his complete lack of any urgency will be spun as not panicking and a steady hand at the wheel, etc. -
We shall see. Ryan has been one of the ten best in the AL and clearly top rookie pitcher. Then it's Ober, Sonny Gray, Paddack, Bundy, Archer. It all comes down to the back ends. White Sox clearly the advantage a cross the top 3 guys. We can make a house/ban bet...but the White Sox have the much more difficult schedule and half a team. Weeks ago, you predicted 109...yes, 109 wins. Nobody else at SoxTalk is predicting over 95 that I have seen. That's still with the AL Central statistically the easiest division in MLB.
-
Except we are at least three weeks away from that happening still. The first decision will clearly be between Cueto Keuchel and VV. With the Twins' extremely easy schedule this month, just staying within 5-6 games would be a pretty big accomplishment considering how ugly things looked a week ago.

Crosstown Series Game Two--6:40 CT
caulfield12 replied to Ducksnort's topic in 2022 Season in Review
Kind of like that time he blew a game in big time fashion against KC...he was pretty good for us, but not sure he was one of the truly elite that his salary indicated. The next tier just below. Cabrera and La Roche starting out so poorly also made him seem better comparatively.
