  1. I have a feeling we're going to get a response about Cease's fWAR being in the Top 15 or 20 or whatever it was in all of MLB last season...granted, a big chunk of that production was from the AL Central match-ups.
  2. Who else COULD they be linked to at this point, besides back-up catchers and random starters on the trade market, like Manaea and Montas? It's all a bit too logical. Unless that long-discussed Ketel Marte trade is breaking, which would 50-75% redeem this offseason, but likely aggravate everyone with the cost in young Sox talent surrendered. At this point, almost not even caring about anything beyond 2024, they've already boxed themselves into such a corner with their current roster construction.
  3. See Eaton 2016, Avi Garcia 2017... Rios wasn't quite as hated as Greg775 made him out to be, but he wasn't exactly a "problem solver" in many aspects for the White Sox.
  4. This is quite funny, you have Tottenham Hotspur getting roasted by their new UK "paint sponsor" Dulux...about as close to being "painted into a corner" as I could quickly find. I guess it's the equivalent of Guaranteed Rate making a decrepit/dilapidated house in the RF position (or you could also go with 2B, or maybe both?)
  5. Well, at least 2004-05 made sense in retrospect. Go away from the bloated salaries of Maggs, El Caballo and Valentin to allocate the money across more guys. Manufacturing runs at the top with Pods and Iguchi. Two huge pitching additions the year before, with Contreras totally under the radar. El Duque for leadership. Dye and AJ at a massive discount. Bullpen by committee with Hermanson, Takatsu, Jenks, Politte, Marte and Cotts. Everett in the leadership mix as well. All for $65 million, at least the Opening Day payroll.
  6. The Twins don't even want to spend, but the Sox offseason so far is pretty much begging and pleading for them to jump back in...especially with Cleveland seemingly looking to tear down.
  7. The story with them is always young pitching. Perez is getting older, Witt Jr. looks to be a stud and Mondesi needs to bounce back. Just unable to imagine them consistently running $160~175 million payrolls. Just hope we don't have to face Hernandez seemingly 5-6 times like last year.
  8. If we actually had as many people invested in scouting and evaluation as analyzing JR, KW and Hahn, we'd pretty much have the most competitive, tech-driven analytics department in baseball...
  9. That's almost as ridiculous as KW's big board...maybe someone stole Hahn's, or it was misplaced, because there's no logical reason to be caught with our pants down like this on Conforto and Kimbrel. It almost makes one think we never even once had a discussion about the likes of Conforto or Bryant, already knowing the price was wrong. Then we get this unwilling to go a fourth year crap...which means there really is no strategic plan for remaining competitive after 2024, when TA7 is also likely to be on his way out the door reading the tea leaves. So 2 or possibly 3 years remaining in the window, but Detroit is going to have a huge say in how that unfolds.
  10. We might as well have signed yet another former Cardinal and White Sox farmhand, Jose Martinez (son of Carlos)...it's actually quite shocking that Wainwright and Molina aren't with the Sox at this point.
  11. How confident are those don't worry about offloading Kimbrel voices right now? I guess it's going to be wait first for Jansen to sign or the Blue Jays, Phillies and Dodgers to start finalizing their pens... Simply can't wait to see the conspiracy theory-laced reaction if Kimbrel is traded right after Conforto signs...and we're left without any everyday RFer.
  12. The Robert courting?...Harper and Machado, would have been the closest. Wheeler? Tanaka was the only other really massive fish we were pursuing in the last decade since Dunn.
  13. How many are actually playing the "right" positions where they are ideally-suited, lol? Well, that's pretty much Robert, Anderson and Moncada. The Sox law of veterans regressing means Harrison will look more like Jimmy Rollins than his 2021 version, especially when you consider his 2-3 previous seasons that paved his way out of Pitt, where he was once a fan favorite.
  14. AZ has to be NOT far behind. Cleveland has too good of a front office, and a nightmarish post-season history. Pitt is irrelevant. Baltimore, ditto. Miami? Has to be in there somewhere. TB and Oakland are both well-run franchises hamstrung by financial/stadium/fan-base issues largely beyond their control.
  15. https://mobile.twitter.com/jonmorosi/status/1503530173483864069?ref_src=twsrc^tfw|twcamp^tweetembed|twterm^1503530173483864069|twgr^|twcon^s1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fbleacherreport.com%2Farticles%2F10029935-padres-fernando-tatis-jr-reportedly-undergoing-surgery-on-wrist-injury then they really need to move either Myers or Hosmer...after realizing their mistake with Frazier and already gifting him to Seattle
  16. If he was so valuable, and seemingly treated so well by SFG, one of the best front offices in the game, then why no QO? Throwing darts against the wall would lead to better outcomes with Kimbrel and Carlos.
  17. If we fly any more under the radar, we'll be permanently stuck somewhere between Midway and Meigs Field.
  18. If for no other reason, Harper's presence would block nearly all these penny punching moves, force the White Sox to get creative with youth or dive into places like the Pacific Rim. Anything's better than 2016 stance, albeit now undertaken with double the talent and a competitive advantage vis a vis the AL Central...but no ultimate end game in sight. Just feels like we are flailing our way along.
  19. Prediction: Ron is going to protest you getting so many responses. Threats of converting to Cubs' fandom have extremely limited shelf life.
  20. But he has the best arm of them all!!! And the range of 2007 Jermaine Dye, but after a second broken leg. (And yet somehow still faster busting down the line than Burger, Vaughn and Sheets.)
  21. Joe Morgan cursed the Sox in 2003 asserting we were the best team in baseball that August. How many of the White Sox relievers in Spring Training last year intimated it was going to be one of the best pens in the history of the game, inviting comps with the Nasty Boys in Cincy and 2013-2015 Royals’ pens.
