  1. If you actually watched every pitch, it was far from half-hearted...he was giving it every thing he had. That description fits the relievers in that game a lot better.
  2. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-free-agency-star-shortstop-carlos-correa-signs-three-year-105-3-million-deal-with-twins-per-reports/ Jeffers, Nick Gordon, Larnach and Rooker comprise a nice set of trade pieces near MLB-ready.
  3. So the projection system has Bregman at around 5.5 and Moncada 3.5?
  4. Unless Verlander continues his Tom Brady act upon return...
  5. Sure, if Robert manages to stay healthy with those two corners next to him.
  6. Not exactly the best strategy to sell season tickets in a competitive (in the sense that there’s much more to spend money on than 20-30 years ago) entertainment-based industry. You know that had to be at least part of the thinking in Minnesota…coming from the marketing department. Thankfully, Ilitch Jr. in DET seems nothing like his free-spending father.
  7. Look what happened to Ventura, McDowell, Fisk, Thomas, Ordonez, Lee, Durham, Buehrle, Valentin, Thome...it's dark to mention only Paul Konerko and Contreras to a lesser extent left the White Sox on pretty good terms? To predict a happy/optimistic contract extension for Giolito or Timmy Anderson or Cease just hasn't been the way this team conducts its business historically. We extract value and move on, as was clearly the case with Carlos Rodon. Now many do come back later...we have a loyalty factor with ex players, but it hadn't usually extended to the sunset phase of their playing careers. Many do become coaches, minor league instructors and team ambassadors.
  8. They (Twins' fans) might be saying the same thing about Jimenez and Robert. Hoping for opponents being unable to play is not exactly a championship mentality. You want to beat the best to prove you belong in that conversation. For the Twins, it will always mean beating the Yankees.
  9. Yet he has never made an All-Star Game. He has been very good the last two seasons, but has only played like a #1 prospect and true MVP candidate for one season in the big leagues. I never said he will suck in the future. I said the White Sox will eventually have to decide if they want to pay $24/$25 million for a 4ish fWAR 3B. That's great if they can... but it will likely require running a $210-225 million payroll at that point. I will believe it when I see it actually happen before my very eyes. I'm hopeful he is physically over long Covid and back to the near superstar/dynamic player he was in 2019. That's it. Because non star or fan favorites (Konerko the LONE exception) stand no chance of sticking around when they get too expensive from a management standpoint. And perhaps those future/expected contract dollars are blocking Conforto right now, and not so much Kimbrel per se.
  10. We should have hoped he went to the NL...but it's possible it completely backfires and he gets totally frustrated if they don't get off to a good start. At that point, how long he'll stay in Minny becomes the main focus of attention, like Bryant already in Colorado.
  11. But a 5ish fWAR improvement with one move...whereas the White Sox are sliding backwards.
  12. Jeffers is going to have to hit much better to ever be a full-time player.
  13. Yes, they would prefer to give that spot to Campusano, if ready enough.
  14. Grandal $73/4 Moncada $70/5 could end up at $90 million depending on $25 million option which is not guaranteed Abreu $68/6 Danks $65/5 Konerko $60/5 Buehrle $56/4 signed with Miami at $58/4 Hendriks $54/3 Luis Robert $50/8 Robertson $48/4 Ordonez was 3/$29.5 and left for 5/$75 with Tigers in 2005. El Caballo to the Astros for $100 million/6. There's obviously an established comfort level between $50-$75, Wheeler, Tanaka, Harper and Machado notwithstanding. If memory is correct, Alex Gordon almost disaster (turned down) was $68 million.
  15. Any ideas left behind the Dodgers ones on Kimbrel? Royals, Rays, Rangers, Blue Jays, Marlins, Mets, Dodgers, Padres, Cardinals, Red Sox...that's 33% of MLB but still no real rumors, apparently. Possible the Indians look at moving Karinchak, but he lost a lot of value the second half. Trivino of the A's is being more hotly pursued than Kimbrel, according to recent rumors. Royals/Rays/Marlins will ask for a lot of money back. Rangers/Blue Jays/Cardinals seem like at least halfway legit possibilities. Kimbrel experienced most recent success in NL Central. Dodgers/Mets/Padres/Red Sox coming up against CBT issues (assuming Boston would revisit Kimbrel, but likely to add Story and/or Conforto). Just no way Hahn could take the humiliation of two lopsided deals with the Cubs, right?
  16. "As I wrote in December, White Sox GM Rick Hahn spoke openly about trading Kimbrel, saying, “We’ve had conversations with other clubs and have a sense of what is potentially available.” Hahn added, “It’s easy to make the assessment that if you put him back in the closer’s role, it’s what he’s accustomed to and he’s more likely to have success.” I don’t find that to be a particularly reliable assessment: put Kimbrel back in a closer role, and he’ll be good again. That didn’t prove true for the Cubs in 2019 or 2020. I think the White Sox would very much like to trade Kimbrel, but they may have overestimated his popularity in the market at his salary. Perhaps they’ll need to kick in a few million or take a decent-sized contract back to make it more palatable. I’m not sure if an intra-division trade could be worked out, but the Royals have spoken of trying to upgrade their bullpen. The Rays, Rangers, Blue Jays, Marlins, Mets, and Phillies could make some sense, but only if the money can be worked out and if the White Sox finds a team that actually believes Kimbrel will succeed in ’22." https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/02/14-mlb-trade-candidates-after-lockout.html One thing, if we DO add Manaea or Montas, we might as well double down by adding Lou Trivino to replace Kimbrel, assuming he can still be jettisoned. We almost have to do something before the Twins add them with their much deeper farm system.
  17. We will see. If they don't get the deal they want, they will just carry him into the season. That said, Preller is now under real pressure in a way Hahn never has been...and is feeling the sting of missing out on Suzuki in particular. They also have sold a ton of season tickets, have a new manager in Melvin (GMs rarely get to fire three guys) and all the ramifications of the Tatis injury.
  18. This is exactly like the movie "Pi" by Aronovsky...we cracked the secrets of the stock market.
  19. https://www.ajc.com/sports/atlanta-braves/braves-sign-former-dodgers-closer-kenley-jansen/JU4Q5TBM6BEMXJ7IUFPZ7R26NM/ Braves and White Sox share a lot in common, both went after closers despite already having one on their roster (see Dodgers and Rays). The plan is for Jansen to be the club’s closer and for Will Smith to be another high-leverage reliever who could earn saves here and there. “Bullpen depth during the season is exceptionally important,” Anthopoulos said. “You play 20 games in a row and so on, and you can’t pitch guys every night. We were successful in the postseason because we had days off, but it’s different during the season to get there.”
  20. Jerry Maguire 2 on the shelf. He must have meant Jose CASTillo and not Castellanos. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/free-agents/relief-pitcher/ Still around 75+ relief pitchers to look at for Hahn.
  21. Joe Mauer 8 years, $184 million Carlos Correa 3 years, $105.3 million (opt outs after Years 1-2) $35.1 million/year Byron Buxton 7 years, $100 million Josh Donaldson 4 years, $94 million The deal also includes an $8 million buyout of a $16 million club option for a fifth year. Erwin Santana 4 years/$55 million https://m.startribune.com/twins-land-free-agent-shortstop-carlos-correa-in-stunning-105-3-million-three-year-deal/600157495/ https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/33543369/sources-carlos-correa-minnesota-twins-agree-3-year-1053-million-deal-opt-outs
