  1. The difference is the Padres don’t mind having him on the roster all season. The White Sox have more pressure to get rid of Kimbrel…as he’s arguably going to be unhappy in a set-up role, all puff pieces to the contrary. And coming out of the 2020 season, Myers was on of their best players. Hosmer is more of an issue. With Soler, they have three starters and Hassell. Profar as utility. As it stands now, Profar has to play nearly every day. Don’t forget they already dealt Frazier when he wasn’t a good fit.
  2. I notice you didn’t include 2018. At any rate, $24-25 million players are not in JR’s price range unless superstars. It was the death of Ordonez, CLee and Buehrle…Ventura, etc.
  3. Soler can’t dictate a 4-5 year deal…that’s nuts. If it is close to reality, there’s no way Conforto gets less than four, and possibly five. Seat at the table? Not even in the same room. We’re in the poolhouse, outhouse, gazebo, some outlying structure.
  4. https://www.usatoday.com/picture-gallery/sports/mlb/2016/12/07/largest-contracts-for-relief-pitchers/95109688/ Robertson now ranks as the fifth largest all-time deal for a reliever. It was second to Papelbon at the time it was awarded.
  5. 27 $13,000,000 $800,000 $14,000,000 $13,800,000 $13,800,000 $14,000,000($22,370,370) 2023 28 $17,000,000 $800,000 $17,800,000 $17,800,000 $18,000,000($40,370,370) 2024 29 $24,000,000 $800,000 $24,800,000 $24,800,000 $24,000,000($64,370,370) 2025 30 $25,000,000 - $25,000,000 $25,000,000 $5,000,000($69,370,370) 2026 31 UFA 2024 he might just be pricing himself off the roster without 2019ish numbers…although you can argue he is still worth it even at a walk and defense driven 4ish fWAR.
  6. Myers, Grisham, Soler, Profar Machado, Kim, Cronenworth, Hosmer, Voit Nola
  7. Yeah, but Glasnow might miss the entire season...there was some doubt last year he might be able to pitch this season. Or negotiating an extension.
  8. Compare payrolls...that's also because there were major question marks about Jansen. With Hendriks, not so much.
  9. Friedman knows his own players a lot better than Hahn...we already managed to flip Rodon and Kimbrel around with their options and QOs, as it should have been the exact opposite for a team only set up for serious contention through 2024. Rodon was worth the QO one year gamble 10x more than the risk of getting stuck with Kimbrel for the season. No contenders care lining up to bail out the White Sox.
  10. You can justify Kimbrel's salary as a go for it, all in set up guy for two months, even if most were not 100% on board with converting him to high leverage (including TLR, seemingly)...but it's borderline insane for a team without a $200+ million payroll capability to do so for a full season when you're STILL not addressing three more compelling team needs.
  11. I will never say a bad word again about Hahn if he gets Kimbrel for Bellinger...but that simply won't happen, even if we pay all $16 million of Kimbrel's salary, which will also never happen, either.
  12. We can't even be accused of being dark clouds as everyone has gotten so exasperated there's nobody to defend it except VaFan.
  13. Can't exactly watch Northwestern or Harvard...unless even the NIT is more important than RF/pitching.
  14. We surely created this "waiting around forever" as a result of this in limbo situation due to Kimbrel. What is it that Hawk always said, self induced? Last decade, it was Danks' contract/ineffectiveness blocking a lot of moves that was the excuse. You always go after your big needs first, starting pitchers, RF and 2B. There will always be relief pitchers, especially in this version of the sport with guys struggling to go five innings.
  15. Yermin needs to get involved now that his big league income is cut off. Do the Cubs even have a place for Conforto to play? Who are their other two starting outfielders right now?
  16. Seems everyone is already reconciled to that...unless he goes to a divisional rival.
  17. Machado and Harper are slightly different situations than Conforto...still, if last year was the closest they I'll come to all in, not sure Sox fans will ever put faith in a rebuild without new ownership and front office execs.
  18. More likely to be Cory Snyder or Steve Sax the way this off season has been trending...
  19. We should try to learn the lessons the Cubs should have from Heyward, Chatwood, Darvish, etc.
