Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
It's deliberately meant to elicit an emotional reaction and get one off their game. Internet banter. Can't take it all that seriously.

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
Not all alumni are like that, but that's fairly typical of those who go to Northwestern, Michigan and particularly Harvard Law School. The sarcastic joke about the Tatis trade is the most we're going to get out of him in terms of self-reflection.

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
https://www.eastvillagetimes.com/the-padres-and-michael-conforto-are-a-unique-fit/ Already went after Suzuki and Soler, so clearly in the market at a corner. Have experience in these competitive bidding situations with super agents. West Coast location...opportunities to spend significant time in SF, LA, Denver and Phoenix, better weather overall than Rust Belt teams. Went to Oregon State, but Mariners not a fit. GM under massive pressure to winthis year, can't blame another young manager with veteran Melvin in place.

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
Hahn clearly was asking for too much...to the point where just paying that $16 million to Jansen made more sense. Therein lies the danger of being left without a seat when the music stops. Keeping in mind the Braves already won a WS with now former closer Will Smith. They might have the best pen in baseball if Kirby Yates can put it back together...with their battery of setup guys like Jackson and Minster.

Between the Yankees and Dodgers, they each just have one in the past 44 combined years....

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
Wickman was the best, maybe Sweeney second.

We should just get Conforto
Except it would have meant it never got out there for public consumption in that case...as the conspiracy theory was to appear to be trying their best to sign him for the fanbase/PR without really wanting that to actually happen.

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
Unless they shock the world and sign Story for 2B, which would really render Harrison extraneous...

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
So we're right back to the 2005 team building approach, albeit with a younger core?
-
Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
At least they're trying. Pittsburgh and Oakland should be folded.
-
Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
Why are we seemingly obsessed with not going over the Grandal numbers? How can we be $20-30 million off the rest of baseball in our valuations?

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
Shocker. Marlins miss on Castellanos, settle for Soler. Padres jilted again. Added Avisail Garcia as well.

3/19 Sox vs Guardians
Ryan Sweeney and Wilson Betemit crushed spring, too. Didn't mean much.

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
Sheets is your primary DH now...would they be crazy enough to make Burger or Collins that?
-
Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
Apparently everyone but the White Sox front office watched Vaughn and especially Sheets in RF.

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
Even if the argument is absorbing salary or relying on a massive jump from the farm system to do something at the TDL, it's not easier to pull off than making a move now. And you are more than likely mortgaging your future contention window.

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
QO to Rodon, get pick back at least Buy out Kimbrel Conforto to RF Rest of the money goes to a starter and one reliever...along with a veteran defense-first backup catcher. No way you have Harrison and Leury both rostered. Any SoxTalk poster could have come up with that simplistic plan.

3/19 Sox vs Guardians
There's your starter. That guy is not an inch taller than Madrigal, if we are being generous.

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
We always discover amazingly/confoundingly inefficient ways to spend "a few extra million bucks" anyway.
-
Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
Supposedly, the Mets were willing to go to $110-120. Not sure how accurate that is.
-
Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
So they can reallocate that $11 million to what quality of starter? Getting rid of Keuchel from the roster, too? That doesn't even leave room for another Leury/reliever of the day move.

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
In the meantime, all their options are evaporating by the hour while they sweat it out.

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
"As I wrote in December, White Sox GM Rick Hahn spoke openly about trading Kimbrel, saying, “We’ve had conversations with other clubs and have a sense of what is potentially available.” Hahn added, “It’s easy to make the assessment that if you put him back in the closer’s role, it’s what he’s accustomed to and he’s more likely to have success.” I don’t find that to be a particularly reliable assessment: put Kimbrel back in a closer role, and he’ll be good again. That didn’t prove true for the Cubs in 2019 or 2020. I think the White Sox would very much like to trade Kimbrel, but they may have overestimated his popularity in the market at his salary. Perhaps they’ll need to kick in a few million or take a decent-sized contract back to make it more palatable. I’m not sure if an intra-division trade could be worked out, but the Royals have spoken of trying to upgrade their bullpen. The Rays, Rangers, Blue Jays, Marlins, Mets, and Phillies could make some sense, but only if the money can be worked out and if the White Sox finds a team that actually believes Kimbrel will succeed in ’22." Repost from earlier in thread...

We should just get Conforto
Well, except for Wheeler and Machado...
