5/17 White Sox (Keuchel) v. Twins (Happ) Thread

Well, there goes the shutout. Let's not wake up Sano, who's been worse than pretty much anyone in baseball so far. Definitely out of shape. -

Jason Bere was the one who always drove me nuts...slower than Mike The Human Rain Delay Hargrove. And now Happ with his (yikes) 38th pitch of the game. Well, at least he's a Northwestern grad, cheer for the old guy except against the Sox (and you definitely don't want him on your fantasy league team). -

This at least is the right stadium to play Billy Hamilton in CF...or Comerica. -

Better to just say "he is what he is" and just wait for his eventual 7-10 game hot streak where he ups his OPS into the low 600's and stabilizes there. -

Finally can say "NOBODY CARES" when Leury makes an out with runner/s on base. -

Perfect, needed to get at least 3, 2 would have been a disappointment...and Vaughn will learn how to pick up those RBI's over time. -

24th out of 27 qualified. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=2b&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2021&month=0&season1=2021&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2021-01-01&enddate=2021-12-31 30/39 if you look at everyone over 80 PA’s. 0.4 fWAR pace. We once said his floor was 1.5-2.25.

I meant ME personally, not 90% of the team, SoxTalk, whatever. Not sure if that’s a preponderance of the evidence...but it’s not quite clear to the standard of clear, incontrovertible. Never mind, move along...not even sure what we’re debating at this point. The umpiring has sucked balls all season long, on both Sox and opponent’s sides.

Probably because Covid is 4-6X deadlier...especially if you account for the new strains in India, South Africa, Brazil, Nepal, etc. Australia had a strong initial response and still won’t have open borders until the middle of 2022. India is undercounting or overwhelmed to a factor of 4-6 times publicly announced numbers, and will end up conservatively with 1.2-1.8 million dead at the slow rate things are going with vaccine production and distribution. Remember, 70% of the world’s drugs are manufactured in India, and the Chinese halted flights of the critical vaccine ingredients into the supply chain for a number of weeks in order to protect their own pilots/crews/country-wide permeable borders.

Or Mendick. That said, the jury’s also a mixed bag on Heuer and Burdi, to name just a couple. Codi still has a lot of time to right the ship. So far, Crochet looks like a success, and Bummer is one of the best 19th round picks in recent MLB history. Ruiz might be a thing, even. And heck, even Foster has looked better in recent appearances. Personally expecting more value out of Burger at third base as long as he can stay on the field and continue t produce offensively. AA will be a heckuva lot more interesting with the arrivals of Cespedes and then Colas in 2022.

It’s going to take a Yermin like run out of Mendick to unseat Madrigal IMO...and TLR envisions him as that complementary glue piece like Eckstein.

How much rope did Gordon Beckham receive during a time when we were expected to compete every year?

White Sox #1 in Power Rankings @ MLB, TA Cover Shot
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Moncada, Robert and Vaughn 3 of Top 35 fWAR for players 26 and under. Of course, no TA, Abreu, Jimenez, Mercedes... For qualified pitchers, Cease #24, Giolito #59, Keuchel #61. Expanding out to 30 IP, you get Rodon and Lynn 20-21, Cease 27, Giolito 85, Keuchel 93 out of 122 total in that screen. Dylan Cease #28, Dane Dunning #30, Michael Kopech at #36 if you move screener all the way down to 20 IP. Kopech current pace puts him at around 105-106 IP for full season...I think PTAC was pushing for 120. -
https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-power-rankings-after-week-6 Demoting KC for taking 2/4 on road (almost 3) against Sox but losing other two or three (part of 11 game streak) is a bit dubious, but okay. 1) White Sox (No. 3 last week) The White Sox are 8-2 over their past 10 games and are starting to take a little bit of a command in the AL Central, though the Indians are holding their own with a firm grip of second place. The Sox have the best run differential in baseball at +61 and own the best record in baseball at 24-15, a .615 winning percentage. Chicago has also won five straight games started by Dylan Cease, including Sunday’s 4-3 win over the Royals. Cease is 2-0 with a 1.67 ERA in those five games (five earned runs in 27 innings). Twins #23 (get Happ and Shoemaker, miss Jose Berrios again), Yankees #7, Cardinals #8, Orioles #27...next four series.

Sure, that's (built-in) assuming a healthy Robert and/or Jimenez are eventually added back to the line-up, certainly makes sense.
-
Yeah, and a 99-63 pace without Robert and Jimenez. But I'm not sure we would actually be favored right now over 3 teams in the AL East, the Astros and maybe even the A's. Jimenez and Robert swing the balance enough to make us the favorites, IF IF IF we can get the bullpen straightened out and roles solidified by the second half of the year.
