  1. We'll see. Cease definitely has the stuff, but the results have to match. He was a Top 5 Cy Young vote getter last year, and pitched well last time out until running out of gas, but they totally messed up his routine with Rodon out. And then you have Kopech and possibly Crochet, although I think Garrett ends up ultimately staying in the bullpen. The only thing that would be MORE shocking would be a Reynaldo Lopez no-hitter.
  2. He referred to a play Garcia made at SS as well...I was only able to start watching Top of the 9th, the Abreu toe tap will be one of the images that defines this one, as well as the Jose Ramirez line-out. And, of course, the HBP.
  3. You can definitely see his Southern/Cuban sense of humor...referring to even dogs in Kentucky knowing he was going to throw a 3-1 fastball to Jose Ramirez, classic quote. And that it was hit 170 MPH. Yermin Mercedes again living each day in MLB like its his absolute last. That energy is really rubbing off in what could have been a disastrous malaise setting in after the first 11 and so many heartbreaking losses going the other way based on so many odd/random things happening.
  4. Definitely have to give the front office kudos here for taking the flier on him...now we're kicking ourselves there wasn't an option year for 2022, hard to believe. And throwing as hard as he is in that weather, in April, after shoulder problems and TJ.
  5. That's number 307 in MLB history. We've seen Humber, two from Buehrle, Giolito, Rodon...crazy. Some franchises just have a couple...the Mets now have the longest stretch without one, and that's almost incomprehensible.
  6. Unbelievable...these two games of White Sox pitching. Like the 2005 post-season.
  7. Wow, lucky Abreu didn't hurt his hamstring there. Great effort.
  8. Who would have thought that Rodon might be more likely to get a long-term extension from the Sox than Lucas Giolito a year ago...? I know we have a LONG ways to go into this season, but I'm sure that thread idea will pop soon enough.
  9. Wow...saw the home run video, Mercedes is almost becoming the emotional leader of this team in such a short period of time.
  10. I know everyone hates fantasy talk, but I have Yermin, Robert, Musgrove, Rodon and Burnes, haha.
  11. Look out now, but the Royals are somehow in first place. Who'd a thunk it? And the Tigers are giving the Astros all kinds of fits.
  12. Can we save some of these runs for tmrw's matinee, please. GameThread this year probably doesn't know what to do with an easy White Sox victory, so some drama must ensue eventually...that inevitably involves a TLR managing decision.
  13. What do you know, playing Vaughn and Mercedes actually worked out...
  14. Rodon either had a really hot gun last time out, it's super cold or he's just doing the usual "taking it easy the first 2-3 innings" thing.
  15. They're a complete mess...not quite feeling sorry because they have Donaldson coming back.
  16. Who is a better option? Grandal? Robert? Yermin?
  17. Definitely not against the Red Sox, who are in the process of winning 8 in a row and three against the Twinkies, who are suddenly even more of a mess than the White Sox even... Perhaps "fist" or "fisted" is more likely.
  18. Musgrove is right there statistically, but relying more on sliders than dominating pure stuff in the way that Burnes does. The amazing number there is the walk count for a pitcher who flashes all those devastating wipeout pitches.
  19. See Cleveland Indians, Rays or A’s attempting to compete consistently with some of the lowest payrolls in MLB. I can’t even imagine being an Indians’ fan...being $81 million behind the White Sox and $74 million behind the Twins and still giving those teams an even battle. Losing to the Cubs in 2016 after being up 3-1. This has already been their 4th or even 5th rebuild since the glory days of the mid to late 90’s. This is compared to incompetent franchises like the Pirates, Mariners, Rockies, Orioles, DBacks, etc.
  20. As it stands, at least $15 million would be taken up on Lance Lynn alone... https://nolanwritin.com/2021/04/13/dane-dunning-real-deal-texas-rangers/ We are all in now, just like the year (2015?) we acquired Samardzija in his pending FA year...
  21. I just copied the MLB Trade Rumors FA list of every possible player for LF that will be a free agent this winter. Guess it hasn’t been updated to reflect that change yet.
  22. Texas and California will attempt to secede for completely different reasons...Florida is filled with nutty people who don’t want to pay taxes to support the next generation/s, so God knows what they will do. By the way, China now has two mRNA vaccines in the pipeline, one finishing Stage 2. It will likely go out to Brazil for testing on that variant in mid-April. The second one is much farther behind...a number of months to catch up.
  23. JR/TLR apparently. Definitely not Hahn.
