  1. Cespedes not ready, Colas not official. Basabe, Rutherford, Walker, LuGon and Adolfo disappointments for a variety of reasons. If you strip away Madrigal, Vaughn, Crochet, Kopech we're close to Bottom 5-7 system. We shall see how the two new Cubans fare. Padres have traded for half the starters in baseball and still maintain a #6 system overall, having only dealt Patino from their Top Ten.
  2. Padres let Yates go right on time...maximized his value and knew when to cut ties. Carlos Correa turned down a six year, $120 million extension from the Astros. Is in final arbitration year at $11.3 million. Sides will continue to negotiate until Opening Day. Betting Correa makes a wager on himself, gives up guaranteed payday but also gets out from the Astros’ cheating scandal with a fresh start elsewhere.
  3. Rodon was consistently 93-94 and was able to get it all the way up to 97-98.
  4. How do you explain Washington State doing so well? They had a cluster of the first cases. NYC/NJ naturally had the most due to JFK, LaGuardia and Newark.... international travel from Italy especially.
  5. Since when have we been able to trust ANY of the data from Florida? https://climate.law.columbia.edu/content/covid-19-data-misrepresented-florida-governor Mr. Piccolo has also sought to downplay the COVID-19 pandemic in other ways. On one occasion, he erroneously tweeted: “we had one COVID death in Florida yesterday . . yes you read that right. One.” In fact, on the day in question, there were 47 deaths. Data from the Centers for Disease Control and other independent public health experts suggest that Florida’s total death toll from the pandemic is actually understated. Experts noted that Governor DeSantis’ administration has used a COVID-19 infection rate that gives “more weight to negative test” results, and thus skews the results. Governor DeSantis has used the skewed rate to justify reopening schools and businesses. In response to criticism, Mr. Piccolo denied that Governor was attempting to question the official death toll, stating “[n]o one in the administration is trying to cast doubt on the number of COVID deaths, we are trying to get to the facts.”
  6. Don't let anyone sit in the LF bleachers or down the 3B line so Vaughn can hear Moncada/Anderson/Robert calling for the ball more clearly...of course, might not work so well in Texas, right?
  7. Too bad not the same owner pissed at Shields...or it would have been possible. I think Nintendo's down to a 10% share, so no longer the decision maker, or we could have traded them the trademark to Takatsu's gong on entering the game, along with Switch games to be named later.
  8. The Padres don't even have enough playing time for Jake C, Kim, Profar and moving quickly CJ Abrams, not to mention Nola can't catch everyday and blocked at 1B/2B. Abrams will own 2B or CF if they shift him, but for now a SS.
  9. No way you trade Kopech for Jake. That would be the worst sell buy high trade in history. Getting Myers with subsidy from Padres for anyone not named Kopech, Cease or Crochet would be the better at least more realistic option. Or Hunter Renfroe, someone like that.
  10. We might as well plant a statue that pops out from underground between innings holding two massive fishing nets.
  11. Signed but never actually saw play in an official MiLB game...
  12. Edicts? Well, you might want to schedule a vacation to Brazil since they have things so well under control with a similar approach to what you are advocating. Same with Miami. Texas and Florida are essentially free riders in the current system, but the bills will come due soon enough.
  13. https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/loyola-isnt-a-cinderella-anymore-under-porter-moser-who-should-favor-marquette-over-indiana-if-he-leaves/ Why Moser should choose Marquette over IU if he decides to go Oklahoma job also comes open with Lon Kruger retiring and prepping to go into HoF
  14. Well, if he gets hurt again, it proves once and for all we can never rely upon him. God forbid a starting pitcher also goes down the first two months...the season will be in real jeopardy unless they’re willing to push Kopech into the rotation out of desperation.
  15. Let’s just put Adolfo out there...well, we KNOW it will end up being Leury and Engel, but would actually like to have something to be excited about, albeit temporarily.
  16. Heyward, haha. Not exactly expiring, but we’ll go through every name the next few months. Mitch Haniger would be another. Joc Pederson/Bryant, etc.
  17. Anderson at catcher with Leury to SS seems more likely...if it’s possible, he might be even slower than Vaughn or Konerko. Maybe even Crede after the back problems.
  18. Melky Cabrera Traveling Circus...come on down. Platoon with Yolmer Sanchez for maximum entertainment value and hilarious Gatorade hijinks.
  19. We should have thought of that when we allowed the Twins to completely dominate the last 4-6 weeks of the offseason. Don’t Stop Now by Dua Lipa comes to mind, or Don’t Stop Now Boys, Get it, Get It.
  20. You just know Anderson’s going to try to do too much, or Moncada covering down the line with all those lingering leg injuries of his.
  21. Sure, Robin Ventura in 97 or Frank Thomas in 2001. That was Canseco. Which was mostly a marketing sideshow, but he was actually fairly decent.
  22. With who, Crochet or Kopech? There’s a pretty bare cupboard until you get deeper into the next wave of future starters...the problem is a trade is much likelier than eating a lot of money, that much is pretty much a given for the Sox. Luring Nick Markakis or Jim Edmonds out of retirement will be the next bright idea.
  23. Or he has a collision with Robert, Anderson or Moncada due to unfamiliarity with the position...at least fewer fans means it’s easier to hear someone else calling for the ball, so there’s that.
