  1. But with Woodruff and Burnes both under control for four more years, the Braun contract off the books and the NL Central in disarray, this simply is not the logical type of move the Brewers make unless they’re really high on Cease and/or Kopech. Sure, it might be two for one (in terms of pitchers), but what are odds Cease or Kopech finish Top 6 in the NL MVP race THIS year? They (Sox) can’t afford to give up two starters...the Brewers can’t take the risk of just one for one and they already have Urias who could be quite similar to Madrigal at second. At the very least, you’re talking Kopech OR Cease and Crochet and one additional piece, probably Vaughn. Then it becomes too big of a risk for the White Sox if anyone gets hurt in the Sox rotation...that’s assuming you had convinced them somehow to take Lopez as the third piece, for example. Just seems pretty implausible that Hahn or TLR trades 3 of Kopech, Cease, Crochet and Vaughn.
  2. Directly from Brewerfan.net My opinion: Pure.Gar.bage. . . . Heavy fan dreaming, and why not? The White Sox are in "go for it" mode based on their offseason moves thus far. But "enthusiasm for a Burnes trade by Sox fans" & "likelihood of a Burnes trade to the South Side" would seem to be vastly different things. I still wonder about the accuracy of the initial wording. Kinda reeks like the "Stearns is shopping Hader" stuff of last winter which all rooted in Ken Rosenthal reporting that the Brewers were "willing to listen" on Hader, which is how Stearns handles everyone every winter -- and doesn't mean at all that they're shopping him. Plus, the OP said "The Sox and brewers have made plenty of trades together recently," which to me sounds more grand than the reality -- Swarzak in '17, Soria & Xavier Cedeno in '18 -- which sounds like more like "convenient source of available decent relievers from a non-stellar team" than a major-trade trend . . . not to mention that this is not that same sort of circumstance at all from Milwaukee's point of view. Maybe I'm nitpicking, but still... If Stearns were ever seriously considering this, you'd have to figure the return would have to grossly outweigh what Burnes means to the Brewers. He & Woodruff are co-aces with plenty of team control left. However, Stearns' main mantra is "controllable young talent," thus Burnes is the exact type of guy they're looking to build around, not trade away.
  3. Certainly if you consider that Giolito would (possibly/likely) be gone after 2023. Also, Tim Anderson will be at $12.5 million for 2023 (option) and $14 million for 2024.
  4. There's an equal chance that it would entirely blow the 2021 budget and hamstring us down the line...
  5. With Eaton, and especially Cespedes and possibly Colas, it wasn't exactly an area of need.
  6. He had surgery mid 2018, came back at end of 2019 and pitched the full season of 60 games last year. Normally, TJS guys are back close to 100% the second full season, and his velocity certainly ticked back up, but command was inconsistent. Plus, it's such a White Sox move.
  7. Zero incentive for the Padres to sell low on Paddack... and they already have Pomeranz and Strahm. And Hader i almost as high risk now as Crochet with how his stuff started to fall off from overuse.
  8. https://www.amazinavenue.com/2021/1/19/22239064/mets-jared-porter-fire-cohen-alderson-new-york They come after Trevor Bauer pretty hard about his treatment of women online (and I'm not so familiar at all with this, specifically) and also "hiding behind that with the fact that he has a female agent." https://theathletic.com/2332861/2021/01/19/ghiroli-be-nice-female-reporters/?source=emp_shared_article ‘Be nice’: For female reporters, it can feel like there is no other choice "In 2012, the Orioles were doing something completely unexpected: winning. Baltimore was, somewhat improbably, defying numbers and critics en route to the organization’s first playoff berth in 15 years. The night before the wild card game, I was in my Texas hotel room when I got a text message from a player saying he had something to tell me, but didn’t want to do it over the phone. I don’t remember being worried about anything. This particular player, who is no longer in baseball, had helped me before with information about roster moves and sometimes told me about guys dealing with secret injuries. I got in my car that night and drove over to where the team was staying in Dallas. (I learned early on, a lot of problems can be avoided as a traveling female beat reporter if you stay in a separate hotel.) Possibilities raced through my head. Someone must be hurt. There’s got to be some big roster move or pitching change. I was 26 years old. I..."
  9. It's comparable, at least. Remember, Moncada was one of the top, if not top, prospects in baseball. Vaughn is up there, but still limited by defense and athleticism. Kopech was lower rated back then (at the time of the trade), but he's got a world of question marks surrounding him now. Heuer > Basabe, and Bailey has slightly more value than Victor Diaz, but it's not like he's a sure-fire major leaguer or anything like that.
  10. "The Twitter “rumblings” about the White Sox being interested in Brewers’ starting pitchers goes as far back as last season’s trade deadline. Seems like it has stirred back up the past couple of weeks, but there hasn’t been anything reported from any actual member of the media. The rumors seem vague at best. Regarding the Reddit post, here is the Reddit Link so you can decide for yourself. Some of the Reddit commenters mention that same poster incorrectly claimed to have a scoop on an NFL trade last year." From the Brewers' fan board
  11. Burnes is under control for FOUR more years, not through 2025...fwiw. This ONLY makes sense if they have a feeling that Giolito isn't going to sign a long-term extension. http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=40202 Another key aspect is they're going to need something more major league ready to go with Lopez (because he'll become increasingly expensive in arbitration), and that's only Kopech or Crochet. When you're only paying Burnes in six digits for 2021, the price is going to be steep steep steep and Stearns is one of the smartest GM's in baseball.
  12. I meant over the last 2-3 seasons...at any rate, they're not trading Madrigal (along with some lingering injury concerns) at a discount and with his base running and fielding not grading as projected in 2020.
  13. Since when was LaStella such a favorite acquisition target before last fall?
  14. Maybe...I think the recency bias of his performance against us in the post-season is having an out-sized impact on perceptions, but there's just no huge incentive for the Brewers to move him or Woodruff when the division is so wide open. Not to mention the Cardinals moving on from Ozuna, Molina and Wainright. They're in a bit of a rebuild/retool as well.
  15. The bottom line is the Brewers have a more wide open division now with the Cubs and Reds going backwards. The Pirates dumped Bell and Musgrove, among others. In fact, nearly every analysis out there has this particular division shedding the most talent since the end of the 2020 season. Why would they make this move, unless they were HUGE believers in Lopez? And who are we going to play at 2B? I hope the suggestion isn't Mendick again.
  16. Madrigal was drafted for a number of reasons that aren't going to easily be measured statistically, but he's definitely going to be a LaRussa favorite and I'm pretty sure that the Brewers aren't quite ready to move Hiura, either. How much longer do they have to pay Ryan Braun, btw? Whenever we make a trade for pitching and trade 2 or 3 guys for one, at least the last twenty years...it always seems to work out in the other team's favor. Then we end up with an injury and even less pitching depth, and more desperation to find a back-end starter.
  17. No wonder EVERYONE'S moving to Austin, haha. I would almost say there's starting to becoming a backlash, to the point where people who move there are feeling disappointed...it's like some are magically expecting to be transformed just by relocating there. Fwiw, I was always impressed with Will Hurd holding that Hispanic majority seat that's one of the largest in the country by mileage/territory.
  18. You don't draft Madrigal that high in the first round just to turn around and trade him. Whether we like it or not, he's an important aspect of the future Sox competitive window that won't be traded away so easily, same with Vaughn.
  19. And the other part of this goes to the heart of males (in general, or specific media personalities) constantly making comments about female sports reporters’ appearance, the way they’re dressed, and intimating that they’re in their positions solely because of appearance and to merely stand there in the spotlight with “the male gaze” upon them. Having lived in Colombia for one year...and witnessed the "machismo" first hand, it strikes one immediately how women are extremely objectified, pushed to get plastic surgery (even by their families), judged primarily on appearance and ability to be "eye candy" for their guy. This reporter must have thought America that men would be so much more respectful. In South America, very few women even go outside without full make-up and jeans or a skirt, and it's QUITE common for women to be whistled at and "cat-called" in the streets.
  20. Therein lies the rub. I can’t imagine there’s a single baseball reporter or online sleuth thinking that attempting to sleep with Kim Ng for those same inside sources would be a wise strategy. That a baseball reporter from Latin America would be put in a position to hesitate or think it might benefit her career...an advancement strategy...tells us all we need to know about the good ‘ol boys club mentality still prevailing. The saddest part of the story is that she’s now in finance, which is not that much better for avoiding harassment, but where she is undoubtedly treated better simply because of the general wariness in the corporate world that’s at least partially a result of the #metoo campaign. Of course, if women use their appearance to get ahead...they get called out or labelled, with the double standard of men getting praised or cheered on by their buddies, we even have sports terminology for it, “being a player.” Too bad Porter didn’t have the opportunity to watch Promising Young Woman first to make him think twice.

  22. Of course, Johnson himself came one lone vote from being impeached, as chronicled in Profiles of Courage. Let’s just hope Biden can do better than Grant. Finally, that pardon dump will come late Tuesday night, after the news....or very early Tuesday morning to be yet one more thing to distract from Biden’s inauguration.
