  1. Gonzalez continues to hum right along...
  2. Let’s sincerely hope it’s only for marketing purposes and not player instruction that they monitor this site, lol...
  3. Well, at least Mariners and Padres’ fans have close to perfect weather conditions every game...and it’s not like Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Minnesota O’Brien Detroit are doing particularly well, either. Maybe we should be emulating Milwaukee? (Of course, having Selig as commissioner has helped, as well as escaping the Red Sox/Yankees/Blue Jays.) The exceptions for tolerating terrible weather are always going to be the Red Sox, Cubs and Yankees (and their fans have taken a ton of criticism, too, in recent years.)
  4. Well, that’s pretty much why they’ve had four GM’s (including) that last 2001 playoff team...
  5. And hospital billing rates for unneeded tests/exams, malpractice insurance and Big Pharma...and they have to cut somewhere, hospitals/doctors are the least likely of the 3. (Of course, the GOP would prefer tort reforms to protect corporations to the disadvantage of individual customers.) Without a check on corporate greed and sheer price gouging, then you’re not going to accomplish much. We saw flash points with the Epipen (Manchin’s daughter) and the Martin Shkreli PR disaster for the drug industry...but no systemic changes. How much profit is acceptable? We put a limit on it for payday loans and check cashing, and call it usury for lenders.

  7. is Call really a legit prospect for a legit team starting MLB job?
  8. You can’t read Dick Allen’s previous comment and see what he wrote at the end of it? Fine, we can go back and quote it. “The clock should be ticking. Yes, this year was bound to suck. Next year wasn't bound to suck, but it's looking like that may change. There needs to be improvement, not only with the talent level, but with how they play the game.“ Should I start a separate thread? Insert it into the game thread? Isn’t Rick Hahn in charge of every aspect of the way the team plays the game? If not, he can fire Renteria, right? Did giving Ventura all of 2014, 15 and 16 to fix what took place in 2013 rectify the mistakes in fundamentals?
  9. If Hillary actually admitted her mistakes, then we could all move on...she had 8 years to do it after the Obama loss. That was blamed on South Carolina and the ugly racism of his comments being unfairly turned again the Clintons. He was the king, they were interlopers not willing to wait in line for the presumed queen, basically. See 1980, what happened the only time her husband lost an election (as an incumbent) his entire life (as ARK gov, he also ran in 1974 for Congress at age 28)...or what self-reflection did in changing the 1996 results, recovering from the bloodbath in 1994 (of course, some would say he sold out by triangulating, using Dick Morris, attacking black people over welfare abuse and the whole “superpredators” accusations regarding violent crimes and drugs/criminal justice reform.) He won, I guess...?
  10. We MIGHT very well get 23 seats picked up, but what’s the plan after that? Obstruction like 2010-2016? Great we have pretty much nothing to look forward to, other than 2020...in terms of actual, real solutions for the country. Trump will probably spend 75% of his last two years campaigning and fundraising.
  11. For example yesterday’s game, what’s the first rule in baseball? On second base, don’t try to advance when the ball is hit to your right...Delmonico, what did he do? Got thrown out at third for the first out when we were down 4 runs. Anderson later advanced on a WP to get them back to the same baseball situation, runner on second, 1 out. But that really let the air out of the balloon...and Anderson should have been trying to hit the ball the other way in the first place, so there were actually two mistakes. In the end, he hit a homer on a 98 mph fastball and made an error, so a typical Anderson game. Lots of potential, raw, but we are still saying that at the end of year 3. I don’t think anyone is convinced we have the coaching staff in place to bring out the full potential in these guys.

  13. I don’t know why we’re referring to it so obliquely then...it’s like talking about a cholera outbreak that killed hundreds. And if that was the case, why spend more “bad money” on James Shields when they were already desperate, like gamblers trying to turn a loss into break even?
  14. Luhnow also developed the most sophisticated player evaluation system/database for any sports team in the world...along with assistants from MIT, NASA, Cal Tech, etc. On the other hand, we’re still seemingly half stuck in the traditional way because of KW and JR. What is our market niche or identity around the game? Keeping players healthy and Don Cooper?
  15. What incident in spring training? One thing is for sure, a lot is riding on the Q trade and Kopech bailing Hahn out of trouble. Just imagine where they would be without those three players in terms of the general fanbase attitude. In the end, I guess we’ll eventually find out how valuable how valuable he is on the open market...an assistant GM job on the financial/contracts side, but not in player evaluation. That’s probably the main reason KW has been kept on the payroll.
  16. Like the rich and corporations said they sure would love SOME huge tax cuts, and then pretend they’re going to pay for themselves even though supply side economics has been debunked over and over again since the Reagan/David Stockman years.
  17. Hmmm... This sounds like a familiar discussion. Generally, NOT the greatest sign when most random message board posters have more high school or university experience in the sport you are GM in, with Theo Epstein (soccer instead) being a notable exception in baseball.
  18. My whole goal in life is to make you think I’m going “full Greg” and will vote for the write-in candidate or GOP. I’m not going to that extreme, yet. On the other hand, voting for a Charlie Baker or Will Hurd (TX) also makes sense...because they can work with Dems quite well, they pretty much have to. Hurd has an extreme amount of foreign policy knowledge due to his background. Any half black dude who can win over a majority Hispanic constituency in one of the largest districts in the country is definitely worth listening to if we ever are to get past all the racial animosities that have fomented.
  19. Doug Jones was a complete anomaly, you could have run there as a Republican and won, probably. That leaves Lamb and the VA gubernatorial race...which wasn’t an upset by any means. If it was so cut and dried, Sanders wouldn’t have won all the primaries that he did in 2016. And they’re (Iowans) most certainly not voting for Medicaid, because they think that’s for the lazy and poor. They’re voting for Medicare... The Dems have lost almost all the other special elections, and Ossoff had huge money coming in, but he never defined himself well...he ran a centrist campaign and was smoked by Handel. The Dems learned you should stand for something at least, and not be a “wussy tabula rasa.” You can’t win just by merely being against Trump in most regions of the country
  20. But we also saved Sale salary we can now reinvest in operations...not much consolation for fans, though.
  21. But Moncada should at least be able to pull the ball to the LH side of the diamond when he is hitting from the RH side and get 5-7 additional hits by accident. They both pull off the ball, and by virtue of doing that, some balls should be spinning off the top of the bat the other direction from time to time, pseudo bunts, essentially. Obviously, he pulls everything as a LHB into the shift, but he still should have more infield hits up the middle. Since you’re so wise, how many hitters in baseball today have fewer infield hits and the same degree of speed?
  22. Avi had something like 25 infield hits last year...Moncada should have the same, or more, with his speed. Yet I feel the answer to how many he has this year must be only 8-10, it just doesn’t make any sense.
  23. Hillary is from the northern suburbs of Chicago...why didn’t she understand the importance of the Heartland? Oh, it’s all her campaign staff starting with Mook, Abedin/Weiner, Donna Brazile, Comey and Lynch. Who won the Haley Stevens race, btw? Officially called? Obama was non-denominational Christian, but 25% of the people (let’s call it Trump’s true base) still thought he was Muslim...would he have had a chance if he was “trained in an Indonesian madrasa” as was alleged by the GOP? Honestly, I’m starting to think it’s better to let the GOP basically destroy the US so that some of the progressive ideas that weren’t radical even during FDR’s (and Henry Wallace’s time) would seem much less radical.....eventually, everyone will be forced to acknowledge that the status quo/rightward drift since the 1980s is leading the country into oblivion and irrelevance, and bankruptcy (well, technically a devalued currency and unwillingness by other countries to finance our debt which the GOP no longer acknowledges is a consequential issue at all.)
  24. Earned income tax credit has been one solution to the 2-3 job/single mother problem...but the family/medical leave part still hasn’t been addressed. Unless you count Ivanka’s pr campaign to make herself look more reasonable when she runs for office. She can say, wink wink, Daddy will still be “advising” me to keep the Minion Trumpsters in line. Let’s instead follow Rubio’s idea of “borrowing” from your earned Social Security benefits, that will work well...right?
  25. I wonder if he thought the same way after the postseason last year? Red Sox are in danger of clinching so early...they can’t get it revved back up again for a team playing for 4-6 weeks in playoff pressure, like the A’s.
