Machado signs with Padres 10/300
Half serious about the whole thing, or just the Sox Twitter accounting releasing it at that precise time...before noon news?

2018-2019 Official NBA thread
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/25872174/anthony-davis-crisis-test-pelicans-ownership Celts, Lakers, Sixers...Maybe for Porzingis or #1 pick. Of course everyone wants Zion Williamson, but just 1 2/5ths years of Davis for Zion is extremely risky.

MLB Pipeline!
He did start 50 games at SS, so it seems the guy has the arm and range for second too. Not saying he’s superior to Madrigal, just that he doesn’t even make their Top 10 whereas Madrigal is 3-4 in our system.

Mostly good...although it could go on for quite awhile with a price set (based on Harper’s numbers) few if any will be willing to meet for Manny. If the White Sox aren’t at 8 and $240-260, they’re going to lose him to a more creative deal from a contender...especially if they won’t bend on the 3 year (vs. 4) opt out condition (assuming that’s part of the hang up, protecting Machado if the rebuild flops.)

Joc Pederson: ???
If it’s Kluber, Ruiz and Verdugo will be involved. They need to replace Mejia, and their catching is barren after dumping Gomes as well. Pederson would be something much less than Kluber/Bauer, that’s where it gets trickier. Their outfield prospects have been injured or have performed below expectations, but I would throw Zimmer out there as one name for sure.

I don’t think it was trolls...that’s probably too strong. More about appreciating the inside information that we do get access to. Maybe it’s also a fear with so many new posters surrounding this Machado soap opera that so many “attacks” on the so-called insiders will result in virtually no public information, or just friends sharing with each through PM’s. Of course, that would eventually leak out or be hinted at through cryptic “knowing” comments. There are two sides to every story, of course. The problem is you’re unlikely to get much accountability in these situations. Think of it like Jim Cramer on CNBC, Motley Fool or Gordon Chang arguing China is on the verge of collapse every year for at least a decade. Eventually you’ll be right about something. Some have a better track record. It’s also human nature to crow about the times you were right, not the times you whiffed. It does get annoying when people have vague Rich Hahnesque exhortations that we should be confident or chill out because there are things going on behind the scenes we are not privy to (this limited info will also be the case for every original source except for maybe 10 individuals in the front office and board members), which comes into collision with almost four decades of only landing two Hall of Fame talents in Fisk and Belle via free agency. The equal parts excitement and fear or disappointment are rubbing together like two tectonic plates...it would be hard to imagine otherwise, as long as this has dragged out with already two ESPN front page headlines connecting the Sox and Machado.

Shouldn’t there be SOME leeway for those who do it for fun and aren’t receiving any type of financial compensation? Or the other point, if this was a pay site ($9.95/month) and we had walked-off access to exclusive insider information and some boards were just for paying members...then it would justifiably be easier to criticize, as those insiders would essentially be paid employees of the website.

Joc Pederson: ???
The Indians need an outfielder 10x more than the Sox...and Joc fits their timeline exactly.

Strong smoke of Harper to the Phillies tomorrow
Sounds like the MarShon/Dillon Brooks NBA trade fiasco...Or KW trading for the wrong Berry/Berry. Hope Bruce cashes that first check quickly.

Tail numbers on a private jet from Las Vegas to Philly or it didn’t happen...

The only argument is the same reason they wanted to trade for him before last year. Taste of experience, become familiar with coaches and minor league talent, city of Chicago, etc. Would agree Phillies, Mets, Cardinals, Angels, heck...any team with illusions of contending in 2019 would be the ones to offer this kind of deal.

https://nypost.com/2019/01/28/manny-machados-last-resort-why-a-one-year-deal-can-make-sense/ Joel Sherman of NY Post argues why a $35~40 million one year MM deal to White Sox, Padres, Phillies might make the most sense. (But still not buying it.)

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
Yes, that’s the kind of thing that would be irritating to know, if fans are being deliberately manipulated...and that doing so continues to provide access to information for “sources.” That said, the main argument is that the event was already sold out. Of course, the sound of crickets on Sat and Sunday with no follow up or explanation from those who were providing scoops is what has many around here upset. The idea that sources should be accountable...whether they’re largely doing it for fun or attention or whatever their true intrinsic motivations are, the most fascinating part (from a sociological standpoint) is the battle between the sources themselves for acceptance and credibility. So many new posters, I can see how “proving yourself” would get annoying as well. That said, they wouldn’t put themselves in those positions without a reason.

I guess it’s difficult not to take personally when you’ve invested 1/3rd of your life into something that doesn’t bring a direct financial benefit but which you’re nonetheless quite proud about (justifiably so). Everyone has their weak points.

Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
Yeah, I would have guessed a supplier for a bat day giveaway created them for marketing (and preparing for) a potential promotional event for the Phils, without knowing what the real story was here...

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
I think the sources who are friendlier or more embraced by SoxTalk are obviously going to get favored treatment...that’s fair enough. And I don’t know of anyone on this board who’s actually earning money by teasing access to real insider information, that’s a key distinction. That opens you up for MUCH more criticism imo. One of my good friends from grad school is Director of Pro Scouting for the Atlanta Hawks and I’ve never thought about trying to get any insider information from him, because it seems disrespectful to ask. I don’t even tease him about Trae a Young vs. Doncic, it’s only back and forth about Cubs and Sox (he’s from Freeport.). Now if he wanted to share it or was seeking ways to make information public because it would benefit the Hawks, then I’d have to at least consider it...but I wouldn’t like that either, if I discovered I was being “used” in the process. Maybe it’s just this current generation, raised on technology devices and 24 hour information.

Realmuto to the Phillies - Sanchez/Alfaro+ to Marlins
But the money for Wil Myers and Hosmer and $27.5 million in dead contracts still means the only way they can afford a Machado is dumping Myers...essentially.

I already corrected it. Hit the wrong button.

http://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/news/manny-machado-rumors-the-cases-for-and-against-the-five-best-landing-spots-for-machado/13v9s4wkwr6w51dq572expkjib At least Sox made top 5. Cardinals, now seemingly the Padres, Angels and Giants (If thru can deal Longoria) make just as much sense as Cubs and Mets.

And go right back into Trout’s market...

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
That might make sense if we still had Kopech or a plan to sign Keuchel as well. He’s going to want a huge guaranteed deal (goes Heyward or gets injured) that has optouts after Year 3 or 4 to sign with a rebuilding team like the White Sox or Padres. He only does that deal if he’s totally DESPERATE to go to the NYY. If Josh Donaldson is $20 for one year, Machado would be $40-50 million times two...to be on one .500ish team and the MAYBE one competitive team.

MLB Pipeline!
https://eastvillagetimes.com/2018/09/the-rapid-ascension-of-the-padres-owen-miller/ The reverse is this Illinois State kid who can’t make the Padres’ top ten but performed better than even the biggest Madrigal fans could have expected last year...but he wasn’t drafted in the first round, so he has to fight perceptions, that and coming out of a mid major conference.

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
Essentially, the only question left is whether 37 is mid or late 30’s. I guess it is fair to claim 4 early 30’s years and only 3 fleeting late 30’s, lol. Then when you’re 40-45, and if you keep yourself in good shape (or are Liz Hurley), you can still credibly claim late 30’s. There are lots of young and old 37’s, basically.

12 years vs. 4 in Philly. And we thought Fisk robbed us. Guess the wife/family had second thoughts about wanting to show respect to both fanbases. That also is going to lead to an interesting conversation about Sale’s HoF hat if he leaves Boston and keeps this up at least 4-5 more years.

Probably be like Halladay and Mussina going into HoF with generic uniforms and no logo on the hat.
