Polo isn’t ready to be promoted...but he’s more or less organizational filler level right now and he’s not going to be allowed to block a real prospect’s playing time. Sometimes kids respond by actually performing better in AAA than AA...no guarantees, but it should be looked at more as an opportunity if he does get the chance, since most of the AAA guys are veterans/retreads and just filling roster spots or providing depth for even more major league injuries. And, upon further reflection, since Basabe already had had significant time in High A, he’s undoubtedly the one that moves to AA before Adolfo IMO...

One thing that really stood out was his coach’s belief that he could play SS, 3B and CF. Basically, both he and Grenier (the kid who went in the 2nd round) were recruited together and both wanted to join a program where they could win (go to CWS, etc.) The coach’s explanation was that Grenier, because of his size and arm strength, would have a much more difficult time switching to 2B than Madrigal had...that basically having Grenier at SS and Madrigal at 2B was their ultimate defensive alignment, but that Nick could really play SS well. The other thing that really opens your eyes is the quote from the scout when he was a senior in HS saying that he wanted to draft Madrigal early but the organization wouldn’t go for it due to size concerns...that scout said he was the best high school baseball player in the country (they were in Mexico for a UA Tournament, Grenier I think was on the same team.)

We still don’t know if Adolfo will stay at DH, get surgery or continue rehab... Should be Gonzalez, Robert, Rutherford, Adolfo at Winston-Salem. Move up Booker and Call to AA. Jimenez to AAA. And Steele Walker to Kannapolis because he’s going to be coming off that oblique injury and they’ll want him to build some confidence starting out against lesser pitching before he hits High A. To me, the toughest decision is Basabe...whether to push him up to AA as well, or let him share time with Robert/Rutherford/Gonzalez in the outfield.

As far as Jack Parkman’s comment, the OTHER problem with high school hitters is that when you really hit paydirt with a superstar like Harper or Machado, 1) they won’t even consider signing an extension at age 24-26 and 2) you lose them right when they hit their athletic peaks, ages 26-29/30. So another team gets to piggyback off the fruits of your labors, so to speak.

Except those high school players in Rounds 2-5 aren't exactly "blue chip" stocks. They're more like a cross between "penny/OTC" stocks and the NASDAQ in terms of their eventual success rates. Teams could draft 9 high school guys from Rounds 2-10 and only a couple (if they were lucky) would even make it to the big leagues.

Very simple solution...raise the EITC high enough where there are MORE significant/appreciable incentives to work (especially for single mothers), otherwise, the long-term costs to society of children not being raised well will more than offset any short-term benefits from saving money that would have been allocated to welfare/WIC/AFDC/food stamps payments by the government. if single mothers could not get any welfare, they would not start "taking responsibilities for their actions" they would start getting more abortions...not to mention, welfare can be a very good thing for a single parent. Do you have any idea how much raising a child costs? I doubt they'll bring in more than one closer...likely a closer and MAYBE a veteran set-up guy like an Addison Reed. Depends on whether or not Nate Jones is traded, to an extent. Brantley and AJ Pollock are the two best outfielders...Pollock was looking at a $100+ million deal before going down to injury yet again. Could see Moustakas/Donaldson (if his value falls off a cliff to the point where the risk is worth it), Brantley and a top reliever as the three biggest adds without breaking the bank. Just don't trust guys in their walk year putting up HUGE numbers and then falling off as soon as they've signed huge megadeals (especially playing for what's likely to be a .500, at best, team in 2019).
