  1. 613 OPS for Anderson. Climbing steadily now.
  2. Every time you watch Frazier hit, he seems completely off balance, in between or like he's just guessing up there. He either gets hot and everything just clicks and a 2-3 week hot streak begins or he ends up with a Dunn 2011 season. Melky struggled for almost the entire 2015 season, especially against LHP. Then was the best (at least most consistent) hitter on the team the following year. After tonight, we'll be in negative territory in the RS/RA balance for the first time all season.
  3. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 17, 2017 -> 11:02 PM) I thought we would be in first place ? I know what you are saying though As of tonight, we'd be 11th in the 2018 draft. 7 teams really struggling in the NL. Who knows if the Pirates come out of it, or trade McCutcheon/Cole. That's not counting the Reds and maybe the Brewers falling back into mediocrity. The Mets and Giants, at least for the moment, seem doomed.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2017 -> 10:56 PM) If he doesn't like what Rodon showed his first two years, he's going to hate the pitchers coming up from the minors the next few years Who could hate Kopech, he's really entertaining? (And, fwiw, Lucas Giolito is really a cool kid, like Borchard, hope he makes it). But yeah, we've had our share of 100+ pitch 4-5+IP outings in recent Sox history. Hector Santiago was a master of that.
  5. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 17, 2017 -> 10:55 PM) I'm just not sure where he's going with this. Is this another case of Caufield being Caulfield or does he not remember Rodon's improvements from the previous year? I just enjoy playing Devil's Advocate sometimes. In reality, it's hard for me to do much more than watch the highlights, most of the time. That said, we really have no idea (still) what's wrong with Rodon physically and how he will be affected when he does come back. When's that simulation game scheduled, again? In the overall scheme of things, about the only thing that can save this season is Luis Robert, a series of miraculous heists by Hahn in June/July or ending up with the advanced collegiate bat we want in the draft. And yeah, it would be a huge bonus if Anderson ended up with a 725-750ish OPS and Jose Quintana at 3.25-3.50ish and in the Top 30 in strikeouts. Finally, Moncada striking out less than 1/3rd of the time and putting up an 800-850 OPS.
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 17, 2017 -> 10:46 PM) Rodon struggles?! News to me. Apparently 125 walks is not a concern, at all. PTAC has stated on numerous occasions he'll never have a completely consistent delivery. He might be a Cy Young candidate SOMEDAY, but the timetable has slowed significantly. It will be a battle just to get his innings pitched to the 160-180 range for 2018 in order to set him up for when the White Sox need to (at least attempt to) compete in 2019.
  7. You can bet your bottom dollar that Mueller's not going to focus on leakers/unmasking/anonymous sources. The GOP can complain all they want, but he's going to be under a lot of pressure (from Trump and his followers) to provide some type of conclusion as quickly as possible after he sets his budget within the first 30 days, and there's not going to be time for that nonsense. Hopefully he'll hire Sally Yates and Preet Bhahara (well, wishful thinking). Good read for those fearing the "Deep State/Military-Industrial Complex" is out to remove Trump for Pence...about Mueller, 9/11, Comey and Mueller ties, etc. http://therealnews.com/t2/index.php?option...p;jumival=19120 PAUL JAY: Right. Well, my fear in all of this is that something Trump wants to do anyway, now he's got enormous pressure to do, which is to turn his sights on Iran. He's in Saudi Arabia. He's going to be working with the Saudis to build an anti-Iran front. There's nothing like a good war to make him presidential, as we heard after this attack on the Syrian base. The more dangerous this gets for Trump, the more likely he needs a good war to get out of it, and then the Schumers, and the Democrats, and the deep state, everyone's going to be cheering him on. COLEEN ROWLEY: Well, maybe he learned the lesson that they only cheer him on for a couple of days, that this bombing- PAUL JAY: A good fight with Iran, they'll be cheering him on longer, I think. COLEEN ROWLEY: Well, that's the whole problem, and that's what James Madison warned about, that all presidents ... That's why we were supposed to have checks and balances on going to war, and of course, that's long been gone, dissipated, and now we have many wars, undeclared wars. We don't even call them wars. So there's underlying problems here. Absolutely, Trump, to his credit, has been insisting on some kind of détente with the nuclear superpowers, and even China, to some extent. Maybe, who knows with Iran? It seems like that was definitely in his campaign rhetoric, that he was going to look hard at tearing up the agreement with Iran, but I think the deep state, the military-industrial, congressional, media complex, has really been working largely together. Whether they actually want to see Trump out and Pence in, I think they probably would be happier with someone less independent, who tweeted less, which would be Pence, and so that's certainly a possibility, that if they can get enough momentum here, that they would prefer Pence, and I think that that would be bipartisan as well, and absolutely- PAUL JAY: And that would be even more dangerous. COLEEN ROWLEY: Exactly, even more dangerous, and not for Iran, but for Russia, for China, for all of these even nuclear superpowers. Jennifer Epstein ✔ @jeneps Fox and Friends talking about the important news this morning, the cancellation of Tim Allen's sitcom (Last Man Standing).
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2017 -> 10:39 PM) What Rodon struggles on the field? He was on track to be a stud coming into the year. Fulmer always had a lot of question marks, as did Tate and Jay. Inconsistency and now this mysterious injury...I was at least hoping for more than a 4-ish ERA and more hits surrendered than innings pitched.
  9. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 17, 2017 -> 10:33 PM) I think you are letting this series cloud your judgement a bit. The problem is if you went back to August or early September of 2012, you would have thought Robin Ventura had the potential to be a pretty darned good manager. That team played so much better defensively, compared to Ozzie's last team...then the wheels came off of nearly aspect of the team, almost simultaneously. Back then, everyone was arguing a new manager was a "breath of fresh air" and worth at least 3-5 wins, if not more.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2017 -> 10:31 PM) There will be many, many days like this during the rebuild. By all accounts, Moncada will be fine. Fulmer is never going to be a TOR starter. Watching the struggles of Rodon and now Fulmer, it's pretty obvious that taking the top college arm doesn't always equate to an automatic slam dunk (and sure, Kolek/Aiken haven't done much, either). It's not Dillon Tate bad, but it just goes to show how uncertain scouting can be. Look no further than Gordon Beckham and Viciedo on the hitting side. Or Courtney Hawkins (he's now replaced Mitchell as our case study in bad drafting.) The White Sox simply HAVE to be better at evaluating talent...especially when they can no longer afford to have a Top 10-12 payroll.
  11. Harper and Freddie Freeman came into this game ahead of Trout in OPS. There were 14 MLB hitters over 1.000. It just seems like there's no offense, well, because the AL Central. Included are such surprises as Judge, Thames, Sano (well, not a big shock), Cozart and Conforto (who we were supposedly interested in). Yander Alonso and Mark Reynolds are two more huge breakouts (so far). Of course, hitting in Colorado helps, except for Carlos Gonzalez this season. It's also unfortunate we didn't make a play for Jean Segura, then we really could have moved Moncada to CF.
  12. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 17, 2017 -> 10:22 PM) I applaud you for that tremendous jinx. Well, I'm officially all about having the worst possible record now. With the Indians struggling and the Twins in first, some part of me as a Sox baseball fan was trying to convince myself they could make a race of it at least into June/July, but this series and then the next two in Seattle and Arizona will probably wipe out any remaining illusions of grandeur.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 17, 2017 -> 10:20 PM) Sox will acquire Maybin when he's 33 and he'll have a Melky like career with the Sox luck. Meanwhile, players like Aaron Hicks go to the Yankees and become All-Stars. This day/night has been a total disaster. Moncada on the DL. Fulmer blasted. Swarzak's luck runs out (ERA still a miniscule 1.37). Of course, it's hard to get TOO upset when it's Mike Trout doing the damage. He's pretty good.
  14. Great, another jinx. Meanwhile, Maybin went from hitting .180 after the first game of the series (23/114) all the way up to .233 (8 for his last 10).
  15. With any luck, we'll get Benintendi'ed again this year...
  16. Swarzak still hasn't given up an earned run of his own yet this year. (That will definitely stop Maybin from getting yet another hit.) Maldonado's come up with some big hits this series, btw.
  17. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 17, 2017 -> 09:39 PM) Well.. people want these vets to not rush the prospects in the system and eat up innings.. perfect for a rebuilding team who needs a top 3 pick next season. Unless Moncada doesn't play the second half for the Sox, I have a feeling the White Sox will end up drafting 6th-10th. Trading Robertson, Cabrera and Frazier definitely won't kill their record.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 17, 2017 -> 08:18 PM) Caulfield you are trying too hard $3 billion for a shoe deal? Who's he crappin'? Hopefully the Celtics take him anyway, but they'll probably go Fultz instead.
  19. How many hits does Cameron Maybin have this series? Screws us over in the as the key piece (along with Andrew Miller) for Miguel Cabrera trade, now this series!!!
  20. On the plus side, you might be able to buy Manafort's new house in Florida for a song. He's going to need the capital to finance all those legal bills. Ask the likes of George Stephanopolous and Dee Dee Myers. I keep imagining which America would suck even more than the current one...under Pence or Paul Ryan? I'm feeling that I would actually prefer Pence, for some reason. But it's scary to have to choose between the two.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2017 -> 09:26 PM) Holland's peripherals are not good. Velocity already down a bit from April When I looked last night, he was in the back end of the Top 30 for WHIP and BAA (MLB)...I'm pretty sure both those categories. Maybe not super advanced stats, but there's at least something to back up the claim he's been pretty good besides ERA. Obviously he has a ton of UER's on his record, so there's that.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2017 -> 09:11 PM) Davis for Soler was a ridiculous steal for the Cubs Yep, and it crippled the back end of the Royals' pen. With Holland and Davis both gone, the rest of their relievers have been bumped up in their roles or overexposed. Plus Soria has been a terrible signing from the very beginning. On paper, it made sense for KC, but the reality is Soler's health and defensive shortcomings mitigate most of his positive value. Epstein's probably kicking himself he didn't try to pull off that trade last year (when he got Chapman instead), as he'd still have Gleyber Torres.
  23. Anderson finally cracks the 600 OPS mark, now at 607. Holland has some pretty decent peripherals (outside of ERA), playoff experience and LHed, definitely the most desirable of those three veteran starters. We'll just have to hope Cabrera and Frazier will get hot at some point. The back of their baseball cards say they will, but Melky was pretty terrible for almost all of 2015, so who knows. You'd think he would want another run at playoff baseball. Nate Jones has a decent amount of value, but now the health questions are starting to get bigger and bigger...kind of like what happened with Jesse Crain, where we failed to extract maximum value and waited too long.
  24. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 17, 2017 -> 08:00 PM) Do you think the old guard gets the call first out of respect? We've had Danish a while now. I think they really want to wait as long as possible to bring up those higher-ranked guys, so they don't have to bounce them back and forth. In the meantime, they get to audition a long line of 5th starter types (Danish/Cooper/Guerrero) for the back end of the bullpen. Hopefully at least one of them sticks, to go along with Burdi. Hopefully they'll follow the path of the Braves in the late 80's, with Avery, Glavine and Smoltz, but getting 2 HoF pitchers is probably asking a bit too much.
  25. Trump, who fired Comey last week, was in the middle of interviewing candidates to replace him as FBI director when he was informed, according to a person close to the White House. White House officials were blindsided by the move, an administration official said. A large group of staffers went to the Oval Office to inform Trump, according to a person in the room, who said Trump took the news better than expected and signed off on the statement his aides crafted. politico.com It's official, if this news is true (Trump accepting the news w/o destroying the West Wing), then Lonzo Ball's dad just passed Trump for most outlandish person in America. Asking for Trump's net worth for a shoe contract (oops, branding deal) that's going to struggle to sell 1,000 pairs. Fox News' plan to ignore the Comey stuff and exist in an alternate reality blew up in their faces in the ratings https://www.yahoo.com/news/fox-news-downpla...-214327088.html
