  1. Poor Gordon Beckham...I'm sure he'll survive this, somehow.
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 08:15 PM) I don't hate you. Your arguments drive me insane but I don't hate you. The above question was a genuine question, no mocking. The point of my question was to ask you if you feel it is fair game for anyone's past to be brought up as it was here, because you went viral for some reason. I dont think that is fair at all The problem from a 1st Amendment standpoint is that the definition of "public figure" has changed greatly with the advent of the internet. What kind of a law could be passed that would protect individual privacy rights while still allowing the press freedom to operate? And it's obviously not the NY Times or Washington Post that's digging into these people, it's celeb/reality show/gossip type sites like TMZ that thrive on these "15 minutes of fame" situations. What about lottery winners? It used to be politicians were afraid to run due to skeletons in the closet, but now nearly everyone's fair game. Should states be forced to hide the identity of lottery winners so they aren't targeted or privacy invaded? Well, that would wipe out 50% of the "marketing appeal" of state lottery systems...as it is, they're already seeing 10-25% declines in recent years in those playing. And, with lottery money going to subsidize numerous state education budgets, the "greatest good for the greatest number of people" utilitarian argument gets even trickier.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 04:27 PM) I mean, if they dragged me off a flight would they put out that I've been illegally downloading movies for years? Its totally irrelevant and horrible reporting. Then there's the "he was on the Ashley Madison list" type of character assassination. If the whole internet search history becomes publicly available (or hacked/released), can you imagine the list of all the sites that people frequent that will be put out there? Remember the "sweater guy" from the presidential debate and how all of his reddit posts and social media were gone through with a fine tooth comb to wipe out his genuine/authentic good guy image? Perfect example. No matter what happens with this Vietnamese-American doctor (David Dao), they're going to end up settling for multi-millions. Doesn't matter if he has all doctors in his family...or hasn't made any money the last decade while his medical license was suspended.
  4. KyYLE doesn't (typically) hate anyone, but is pretty good at mocking. You just have to give it back. Persecution complex will simply draw more, lol. http://finance.yahoo.com/quote/UAL/?ltr=1 United still down roughly $500 million in market value from 2 days ago.
  5. The problem with Fulmer is he's got to have that 95-98 MPH fastball to be effective in a relief role. Throwing 92-93 and touching 94, he got hit pretty hard at the big league level last year. Let's say he becomes more of an Addison Reed type, there's obviously value there...but still would be disappointing.
  6. Jinxed Fulmer. Moncada impervious.
  7. Thrown out stealing second. 11/28 4 bb, 10 k's (hope he can keep that bb/k relationship at 50% or higher). Fulmer is quietly off to the best start of the Big 3 at Charlotte. Slick 2.25 era for now.
  8. Really hope Holland, Gonzalez and Shields (realistically 2/3) can keep this up into early June. Holland, in particular, if he can stay healthy. Heck, for the price the majority of potential playoff teams will favor him over Quintana.
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 04:38 PM) A Republican member of the NC legislature He realizes Lincoln was Republican, doesn't he?
  10. Don't forget KT McFarland quietly disappearing as well from her post...
  11. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 08:19 AM) Kushner is 100% on board. Sheldon Adelson's is willing to jump ship and support someone else. You have to actively keep him happy. But that Mercer money leaves with Bannon. And the Kochs lined up with the HFC bloc opposing the health care bill. Plus, they're spending precious resources to defend once slam dunk Congressional seats in KS and GA.
  12. Elsewhere, the doctor at the centre of the viral incident onboard the flight in Chicago has spoken out for the first time. His lawyers, Stephen L Golan of Golan Christie Taglia, and Thomas A Demetrio of Corboy & Demetrio, issued a statement saying: "The family of Dr Dao wants the world to know that they are very appreciative of the outpouring of prayers, concern and support they have received." https://www.yahoo.com/news/united-airlines-...-073030438.html Another United passenger in first class recently threatened with handcuffs treatment

  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 07:36 AM) So there it is, the first apology in the Trump administration is for claiming a dictator was worse than Hitler's because he did something hitler never did, except what he did was what Hitler was known for, and then even in that apology tried to clarify by saying Jews weren't innocent people. Glad we found the line. Jews apparently weren't even German people.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 07:33 AM) Lol, the implication is pretty obvious Caulfield Is he really THAT well-known at SoxTalk? But seriously, with Kushner on the ascendancy, wouldn't he now be the first apology after the president for making the administration look so amateurish yet again? Who was the main one that helped him get the press secretary job? Wasn't it Priebus?
  16. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 07:28 AM) Lmao. What an absolute clown show this is. Why not Jared and Ivanka? Netanyahu? The Anti-Defamation League? The implication for the apology is that Adelson is not only a huge GOP donor, he just so happens to be Jewish.
  17. In Sweden, the deputy prime minister struggles to contain her tears: Her country can no longer cope with the influx of people and is closing its doors to all but a few. http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/26/europe/syria...rkey/index.html A story 1 1/2 years old...the writer's opinion inserted/substituted as a direct quotation...and it has morphed from a Deputy PM to the PM. Maybe the sock puppet bots from Homeland are manufacturing fake news? Putin?

  20. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion...411-column.html CPD issues misleading PR statement latest weird twist in United fiasco As to the previous point about gun deaths/school shootings: 1) The airplane incident touched a chord with nearly EVERYONE who flies, and particularly United because of its relationship to Chicago 2) School shooting discussions never go anywhere and just end in frustration...people are numb to them. 3) The "political environment" these last two years or so has been so polarized that everyone has their own "hot take" on the situation that's sure to offend someone or another. That and the racial "discrimination" angle, all of my students in China believe that all four passengers forced to leave the plane were Asian/Asian-American. 4) It's almost the perfect case study for a class on public relations/customer service/how NOT to do damage control until hundreds of millions of dollars of company/shareholder value have disappeared. 5) The fact that nearly everyone can already imagine how many millions of dollars he'll win from the forthcoming lawsuits. 6) That it happened in the City of Chicago, a political football for months now between the two parties. 7) Hundreds of millions of people around the world are commenting about the US and our unique interpretation of "civil rights" and re-accommodation.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 11:01 PM) Any public figure that ever utters the word "Hitler" deserves to be fired. You have to be that stupid to evoke the name of Hitler in any capacity. He should never ever be acknowledged in any way. He should not exist. He's definitely the most evil man in human history. Gacy probably is in the top 20. Richard Speck top 20, Dahmer in top 20. Rios 21, Dunn 22, Nate Jones 23, Melky 24
  22. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 08:22 AM) I don't get the Trout comparison, they are both great athletes, but will each impact the game differently, plays the different positions. FWIW Trout was a far more advanced hitter in the minors compared to Moncada at present. Your numbers on Anderson is also incorrect. His minor league K% was 22.5%, but bumped up to 27.3% (124/453) with the Sox. I am hoping Moncada limits K% to 25% in AAA, but that's going to take some work, primarily in learning to hit offspeed pitche. The K% is worth monitoring. Yeah, it was the extrapolated average over a full season (extrapolated from partial numbers from 2016), which projected him getting 673 AB's and having that K percentage near 29/30 statistically. Anderson was actually 117/410 last year and 124/432 for his entire MLB career (first week of 2017, 7/22). Not sure where 453 came from. 28.5% and 28.7% if you include his entire career.
  23. Ray Durham was 1201K/7408AB. Only 16%. Obviously, Moncada's projected to have a bit more power, but we should HOPE that he gets that percentage at least into the mid 20's before he's promoted to Chicago.
  24. I think that's 9 strikeouts on the season...heading for that mid 30% range in the early going.
