  1. Scioscia's going to make the Hall of Fame as a manager...that situation with a former AAAA pitcher vs. the ego of a micromanaging leader make the situation a bit unique. And we went through a similar situation with Guillen and Williams, right?
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 06:38 PM) I know there is the ridiculous myth about this ownership group. But realistically, there are plenty of ownership groups out there who treat their teams like an annuity. The Sox do put a fair amount of resources into their team. There are baseball teams out there who have figured out how to minimize their payroll in order to maximize their revenue sharing checks. The Sox have never fallen into that group. There are also groups who are losing 8 figures a year or more on debt payments that never go back to the team. Sure the Sox could find the next freespendin billionaire who needs a play thing. They could also find the next Jeff Loria or Larry Dolan. At least the Indians shelled out for a manager and made the playoffs in 2013 and 2016....and attendance is close to 20,000 per game, so that's trending up as well.
  3. What happened to the Fulmer who was supposedly the best NCAA pitcher in 2015? Seem the White Sox are just mailing it in or the offense simply doesn't believe the bullpen can ever hold a lead against KC.
  4. Except he is at total cross purposes with the 2017 team at this point...helping to elevate the win total, taking at-bats from a Saladino or Coats or Garcia (well, that's a bit of a stretch) and very unlikely to be traded for a future asset this month because his pittance of a salary makes a waiver block highly probable. Too bad it's not Avila doing this, because he is under control for 2017...but it's just the way this season has gone.
  5. Saladino might as well get more opportunities hitting higher in the lineup...nothing to lose. Let's see how he responds.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 04:17 PM) Yes, but a lot of people simply would never consider going to 35th and Shields. Convenience is good, but other cities have their stadiums downtown and thrive. Chicago has to think big. Our team is second fiddle. It's time for the new owners to figure out where we would have the best chance of selling out every game. Frankly it's probably either Naperville or in the heart of downtown. Make it a 45,000 seat stadium with a retractable roof and put it somewhere we're going to sell out every game. It's got to truly be the best stadium ever constructed to compete with the Cubs. The Braves just made that move, but what individual or group is willing to privately finance a stadium on their own? It would be a no go in the state of Illinois these days. The new group is going to be more interested in the broadcasting rights and parking...and would likely to carry on with the current lease due to its profitable nature.
  7. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 04:04 PM) OK, so we need a mission statement and a bulleted list of things we would do in the first 100 days: - Fire/Trade everyone - ??? - Profit The most important is the strategy for maximizing that 2019 broadcasting rights deal in the face of the Cubs' tsunami...
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 02:43 PM) I still don't buy it. The sox are going to be bought (in this fantasy world where they sell) by a group of billionaires and millionaires that want to own a baseball team. Won't have anything to do with how profitable they think it could be. Chicago has a lot of potential buyers, and, could also be led by a famous head. Oh god...what if Jordan buys the white sox. We just found the missing piece for next year in the outfield, yay! Better yet, Trump...because he already has a beef with the Ricketts family and Ivanka would take KW's place. At least that would be interesting. Trump Field would increase the value of the stadium and real estate in the surrounding neighborhood, until a North Korean cruise missile was launched in that direction. Aren't there any high tech billionaires connected to Chicago...now that GroupOn has fizzled?
  9. A Chicago-based group led by Thad Bosley is thought to be one of the favorites...
  10. Matt Holliday and Jaime Garcia will save the day...
  11. 2 + DC Comics catalog = pi/relativity
  12. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0810-story.html If he truly does possess three plus pitches, why wouldn't they at least attempt to turn him into a starter? Instead, they will rush him to the big leagues to replace Robertson for yet another supposed "all in" year? Logical.
  13. QUOTE (FT35 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 12:50 PM) This makes me laugh...because you know it's certainly true! One team's trash is usually our treasure--and it's sold to our fan base by Hawk Harrelson as if the players were in their prime producing seasons.
  14. If they can just get anyone to take his contract for Leury Garcia's equivalent value, it will be amazing...
  15. Greg, how do you think opposing GM's would answer that level of spin? Response to Hahn: Well, he's no longer around the winning culture of the Yankees, so it's 100% understandable why he's so miserable and not performing well. Dysfunctional situations can screw with any player's head. Not to mention Ventura just ran him into the ground. So, I will just overlook those games against the Rangers and Royals when the White Sox had a much better record than every AL East team. Done. And you can even have some prospects to boot, because we know David's real intrinsic value on a championship team.
  16. And who exactly would the Pirates even want from us for McCutcheon...? There's no talent match. It's back to the same situation we faced trying to get CarGo in the offseason. Franchise players aren't easily traded.
  17. Reddick wants a four or five year deal and will get it. Pirates are all-in next year and they're getting lots of reinforcements from the top of their minors. They traded Melancon and Liriano, but McCutcheon is the heart of that franchise and his value is way down from a year ago. It would be like the White Sox trading Abreu entering this offseason. He won't be dealt, unless a team is willing to pay in value for the 2014-15 MVP version. Desmond will get four or five years due to his age and versatility. Sox could have had him for $8+ million and turned him into a compensation pick. Fowler wants to play for the Sox about as much as LaStella or Justin Upton.
  18. KW spent twice as much on Manny Ramirez...let's do it.
  19. The Astros will be fine, just like the Pirates. We can talk about Aiken or Bryant, but they have Bregman, Gurriel and Tucker, too. I watched Tucker in the Quad Cities last month...he's at least two years away, but Bregman and Gurriel will be there from the beginning of 2017. They just need a better starting rotation. And for AJ Reed to figure out things...
  20. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 11:01 PM) That's not always a bad thing. Sometimes, especially with really cocky players, they need that. There are guys like Rodon who really have nothing else to prove in the minors as they pitched well there and they need to learn to get MLB hitters out. Rodon has command issues but with stuff. The minor hitters swung at that but the MLB hitters don't he needs to learn at the MLB. Fulmer was going to be in the pen due to the innings limit so why not try him against the MLB to see how he performs but also how he handles the situations. I'm not saying it's definitely the right move but I can see the reasoning behind it. The concern is what might be wrong physically with Fulmer...he should be throwing mid to high 90s out of the pen, in single inning bursts. Not just 90-93. And with Rodon, they should have given him more time to master the change. He could dominate in the minors with either the fastball, slider or really just one pitch. The problem in the majors has been the lack of confidence to throw it enough for it to be an effective pitch...where big league hitters have it in the back of their mind like with Sale, Q or Buehrle. That's something that's much more difficult to experiment with at the nig league level. He reverts to his usual habits when struggling, which is normal but might not to be helpful until he learns to vary his repertoire more. The biggest concern with Rodon might be his unwillingness to use his A fastball on a consistent basis...out of some misguided desire to emulate Sale, who has much better command and can get away with lower velocities due to location. Rodon gets tattoed when behind in the count and forced to come in at 91-94 mph. If he's not throwing a change, he needs to be at 95-97, touching 98 to be truly effective as a starter.
  21. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 10:50 PM) Baltimore Toronto Tampa Bay Cleveland Detroit Minnesota Texas Seattle Houston LA Angels Oakland Washington Miami NY Mets Cubs Pittsburgh milwaukee Cincinnati LA Dodgers Colorado San Diego Arizona These are all of the teams who have NOT won a World series since the Sox have. You've just provided Brooks Boyer his marketing campaign for next season, unfortunately.
  22. That was predictable. DFA Hahn or Albers. One of them will suffice. Why did we bring up Coats again?
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 10:43 PM) Really don't know what more Albers needs to do to get DFA. Rather see Ynoa or Fulmer get a chance here. This would be a learning opportunity for those guys, Kanhle....basically anyone else BUT Albers. At least some things don't change much. Ventura maintaining his predictable ways until the very end. Well, perhaps he learned not to walk the bases loaded with Jennings out there and a leadoff hitter on 3rd.
  24. Strange to see that boxscore with 1s and 0s for Ks and then Anderson's five. White Sox springing more holes tonight in their quest for mediocrity next year.
