  1. Are the Indians ever going to lose again? They look like the AL's best, along with the Rangers. Baltimore, it's just difficult to be 100% convinced about their starting pitching. Here we go again...can't get it done with an 89-91 MPH fastball. That's Erik Johnson or Danks territory. Needs to mix in more offspeed stuff in order to survive.
  2. Let it be officially recorded for posterity's sake the Sox are NOW leading this game. For the moment.
  3. Rick Hahn really pulling out all the stops...or putting nails in his own coffin. Pretty difficult for Hahn not to be (especially) personally invested in Davidson's numbers, since he and Avi were once touted as key additions to the young core of pitching going forward.
  4. Don't say that, SSS. You will be accused of being pessimistic and a "bad" fan.
  5. Some had Curbelo in their top 10's or even 6-7 after the draft (ahead of the Mays and Trey M.'s of the world). Why such a disparity in how he's perceived? 6-15 to me is totally interchangeable. Engel at 6 just feels way too high. I can't imagine even the Reds accepting him as the centerpiece of a potential Jay Bruce deal, or the Rockies for Cargo. Maybe for Beltran...but the Yankees are going to wait until the last possible moment with that bullpen. They're not in the rebuilding business, typically.
  6. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 04:13 PM) Topical, from yesterday: http://www.forbes.com/sites/kateashford/20...s/#2866f6702dbe Support Obamacare they said, things would be better they said. College/university tuition and the costs of new homes rose at even higher rates (than quoted about medical/health care costs) in the 90's and 2000's. Anticipation of Obamacare was responsible for those increases as well? What about profit margins for health insurance companies? They've fallen at a precipitous rate, and most are in danger of going out of business?
  7. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 05:39 PM) Man Siera Santos is the goods. Suzannah Collins to Jen Lada to Siera Santos is quality. CSN does that right. I miss the days when there were female sportscasters like Robin Roberts, Hannah Storm and Gayle Gardner who were known just as much for their sports acumen as their appearance/artificial enhancements. You'd think we would have progressed in that regard...instead, it has become even MORE about appearance than sports knowledge, with a few notable exceptions. Even Laura Okmin, back in the day, she was very pretty, but good enough to work for CNN in terms of her reporting skills.
  8. Coats isn't even playing, STILL. Saladino is, Frazier at 1B, Abreu DH....Shuck (CF) and Garcia in the same outfield, next to each other, yikes!
  9. The best option might actually be Burdi, and you just shudder at the consequences if he comes up and pulls a Brad Lidge. Hopefully they're smart enough to avoid that. Anderson has held his own, so far, at least.
  10. Boston/Toronto +6 KC/Houston 1/2 GB Detroit 2 GB CHW/SEA 3 GB NYY 3 1/2 GB OAK 7 GB
  11. Have Davidson's strikeout rates come down recently? Delmonico's not an option based on performance after Charlotte promotion, not sure about Hayes. I was GOING to say Courtney Hawkins (on a tear)...striking out 1/3 at-bats in BIRM would turn into 1/2 to 1/2.5 with the White Sox. But it would be a lot more fun than watching Garcia/Shuck or the catchers at DH. Or Coats, since they're bound and determined not to trust him with playing time.
  12. Oh, by the way, PTAC, there's an article for you to diagnose. It's buried in the MLB Catch-All one page back from the end. It's about the stem cell treatment program the Angels are using as an alternative to TJ surgery. Think they're doing it with Andrew Heaney now, not sure about other pitchers because I haven't had the time to read the whole thing. Just thought you might be interested and probably didn't see it or you would have commented.
  13. QUOTE (soxfan85 @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 12:25 PM) Actually, Matz is scheduled to start tomorrow. Snydergaard not scheduled but there is a TBA for Sunday. Pitching well...that is another story... The Dodgers are bringing up a AA starter that Dave Roberts has never even seen pitch once. Things could be worse. The bigger concern is Wheeler for them. Has had some setbacks.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 10:42 AM) 3 batters, 3 runs Other than Finnegan, none of the "top pitching prospects" the Royals have traded away have amounted to much of anything as starters. Well, theoretically, you can also include Jake Odorizzi from the original trade in 2012-13 offseason for Shields/Davis.
  15. True words have never been spoken by PTAC. In economics terms, we call it "inefficient allocation of resources," or poor return on investment.
  16. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 02:06 PM) Need a starter more than a reliever. Bullpen is acceptable. Not without Petricka AND Putnam. There's nobody to cover the 7th. Albers is terrible now. Jennings and Duke are fine for now from the LH side, but RH relief is a mess up to Jones/Robertson.
  17. Benetti? Too soon for that, lol. Actually, Hahn's not the "quiet nerd" type at all, at least he wasn't at Harvard Law from all the stories I've heard.
  18. The big question is whether Johnson, Tatis and the $25 million Sox commitment were agreed upon BEFORE the owner went off on him and he was shelled in Seattle for all those runs. If Hahn kept the deal on the table because it was a "gentleman's agreement" and didn't push to negotiate it down (again), he's an even bigger idiot than I previously thought. How much did that last week actually cost the Padres and Preller? Nothing? $5 million? $10 million?
  19. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 07:37 PM) The greatest first baseman in White Sox history wore a helmet in the field. And Olerud, I know. But it's not ideal. And Morneau was never a plus defender at that position, at least not after all the injuries started to take their toll. He was adequate.
  20. Like his dad, Tatis is likely to end up 3B/1B/DH. His hit tool will determine his future in the big leagues (or not).
  21. Rodon and Sale were exceptions...I wouldn't be surprised if you saw all three of those guys make their debuts with the Sox pitching in relief, especially Burdi and Hansen. Important to get their feet wet gradually in low pressure situations (more likely to lead to early success and confidence-building) and then they can assume larger roles later on when it's warranted by the results.
  22. It's a Mad Mad Maddon World..."creative title"!!! http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/its-a-m...-in-15-innings/ Anyone who still wasn’t sure what Joe Maddon might be capable of doing as the manager of the Cubs after 250 or so games got the full “mad scientist” view on a long, strange Tuesday night in Cincinnati. By the end of a 7-2, 15-inning victory by the Cubs, two different pitchers had batted, three had played left field, and guys in the Cubs dugout were rooting for a ball to be hit to Strop in left. “We were hoping, man,” said Maddon, who navigated much of the final three innings of that game with just seven position players eligible. An intentional walk loaded the bases for starting pitcher/pinch-hitter Jason Hammel – the former Rays pitcher who often refers to “the mad scientist that is Joe Maddon” – who grounded sharply for an out just ahead of Javy Baez’s booming grand slam over the center field wall. ...
  23. Agreed on the cinematography.... Maybe the history teacher part of me prefers The New World and The Thin Red Line...that second one was definitely his most accessible, mainstream type of movie. The New World is a beautiful movie to watch. Maybe Tree of Life would resonate with me more, had I grown up in the 1950's/60's, instead of of the 70's and 80's. To the Wonder had Affleck and two actresses I enjoy watching, McAdams and Olga Kurylenko, but it just didn't quite make it into that category of great move. It was a worthwhile watch, although I find some aspects I enjoy in almost every movie, no matter how terrible.
  24. Juxtaposited or juxtaposed? At least you get points for attempted humor and creativity...
  25. http://www.latimes.com/sports/angels/la-sp...snap-story.html Angels' pitchers trying new stem cell therapy as alternative to Tommy John surgery Looks like Kershaw might have a lower back soreness issue, but not elbow or labrum related, thank god. http://www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/la-s...snap-story.html
