No, we'll get some line about Robin pushing them to a much better record than rs/ra would suggest and that not even HoF managers could make a difference with this perpetually flawed roster, blah blah blah. You can't coach players to improve defensively, you can't get big league hitters like LaRoche to change their approach or control the flatness of a Robertson breaking ball or call the pitches for Tyler Flowers or make decisions for 3b coaches.

Conor just hit a two-run bomb to give the Halos the lead...

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 09:49 PM) Rongey trying to rationalize McEwing making that decision... Nobody out! Done! That's the only factor McEwing needed to know. Period! Even flavum is out with the pitchforks tonight and not even bothering with statistical premutations that would project our record to somehow clinging (with about ten breaks going our way) to a WC possibility.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 09:44 PM) I don't think Pentecost was a guy who was going to turn the franchise around. At least there would have been something to look forward to... I guess that will have to be Johnson on the mound, but it probably won't happen until September call-ups so we'll have no clue if he's actually ready to be in the rotation next season. Hopefully we'll see Montas again as well.

16,459 and SoxTalk can now turn their attention back to the draft pick thread and forever wondering what new prospects we'd have acquired to get us through the last two months were it not for KW/Hahn's titanic debate leading into do-nothingness. On the plus side, Ramirez, Eaton, Abreu and Melky have been tearing it up. On the negative, every FA acquisition of Hahn's other than Melky and Avisail especially are struggling mightily. Not to mention we simply don't have the coaches to elevate this team to a higher level. They're scared of actually being in the race, scared of playing so poorly they cost Ventura his job.
-
Are they going to play or bag it?
-
The thing is....it's just laziness on McEwing's part and/or lack of scouting. If Kiermaier didn't play for the Rays, he'd be in the Gold Glove conversation. He can really do it all defensively. The Rays' announcing team was simply incredulous he was being sent there.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 09:24 PM) If you flip the W-L record against the NL in 2007, it wouldn't have been as abysmal of a year as it ended up being, despite the fact that watching that team for more than a few innings at a time would make your eyes bleed. At least you had Fields and Owens and Wasserman looking decent...Andy Gonzalez, haha. He looked like a slugger compared to Leury.

Well, Baltimore's winning as well...although the Angels are playing so badly they're putting themselves back in the elimination bracket. This game is a perfect illustration of why we should have dealt Shark. Coaching decisions right and left, bad defense, bullpen giving up key late runs right and left whenever the Sox had the momentum.
-
McEwing to bench coach, do it now!!!
-
16,496 were duped into coming to this one...mostly disguised as empty seats. But yeah, trading Shark was going to decimate the fanbase.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 09:15 PM) If Alexei doesn't hesitate, it might of been closer. Even Ramirez was anticipating McEwing would hold him up...
-
Ramirez wasn't even close to hitting the third base bag when Kiermaier was letting go of the throw...
-
Kiermaier is a Gold Glove quality OF. McEwing is an idiot.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 09:09 PM) Amazing how bad it's gone from being up 2-0 in Boston with Sale on the mound Those Cubs games will be the only remaining ones to sell out...so we can thank Cubs' fans for contributing to JR's pocket.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 09:10 PM) Best bet is to just pitch no name guys as closer until they lose it; then go with the next no-name guy. Robertson overall deserves a grade of B-minus though I'd say. That's what they did last year with Belisario and Petricka...
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 09:08 PM) Still pissed they didn't try and get Astros or Yanks interested in Robertson last week With Betances and Miller already there? I think everyone knows his stuff has degraded over the past two months....cutter's not crisp and he's hanging more and more off-speed pitches.
-
And the Cubs can now take the WC lead as the Giants blew a 6-0 lead. This week has been absolutely awful for Sox fans. Not that it was unexpected.
-
Robertson's rapidly closing in on bad contract status. Hanger. Mahtook had no clue on fb/cutter. Sigh.

QUOTE (lord chas @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 09:02 PM) Mike Jackson was beyond pathetic He was also about the same age as LaTroy Hawkins.

Loney 1 for 9 against Robertson...

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 06:30 PM) Bush is my top choice and I actually think he'd have a shot at winning the general election if his last name wasn't Bush. However, since it is, I don't know if he'd get enough of the independent vote in a general election. For all the reasons I like him, smart, moderate, but progressive, he won't actually get the republican nomination. Too much of the party has fallen way too to the right because of how insane Obama is and it just drives me nuts cause a good moderate candidate would be able to win and would be a boon for this country. The far wacky right drives me just as mad. They are creating the need for a 3rd party, but the problem is it just means while the 3rd party is created, the left can continue to do whatever they want. You do realize Obamacare is way to the right of the Romney and Clinton versions...? The Pacific Trade Agreement is liberal? The majority of foreign policy in the Middle East has been following the so-called Bush Doctrine, other than the recent Iran move...so I guess the GOP would prefer a full-scale invasion, as sanctions definitely haven't worked? If Obama was a candidate in the 60s 70s or 80s, he would have been considered a moderate/centrist. He should have let all the banks and auto manufacturers go bankrupt? I didn't see any members of the GOP like Romney applauding that idea, although he did go down to defeat saying he would have let DET implode even when it turned out to be a great investment by the government.

QUOTE (harkness @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 08:50 PM) Duke is up there with LaRoche,,, as far as bad signings... The dude has like one good year as a reliever... Don't forget another $6+ million for Bonifacio and Beckham... The only decent move was picking up Soto.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 08:46 PM) Big double, though. He turned his night around for the better. I do think he's an easy guy to root for. He seems to care deeply. He's just challenged on defense and has an horrific approach at the plate like a lot of hitters who don't draw walks. Lol. You should have stopped with that last sentence. Well, the best part is that we have Duke under control for two more seasons...

Lillian's revenge. This bullpen is so mediocre...
