  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 08:04 PM) Not a fan of bringing in the worst reliever to face a lefty when they hit over .300 vs him If we have to use Petricka, Duke or Putnam....there's going to be no end to the second-guessing when Putnam was available and Jennings should never pitch for the White Sox again after tonight.
  2. Jesus, can we ever have an easy win? This is ridiculous, to think we're going to have to go to our core bullpen pieces now to save a 7 run lead.
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 07:35 PM) The Sox have a chance to add Puig to a stable of reliable, ready to play younger players. This is a deal that could make them. To be able to build around Abreu/Puig on offense and Sale/Samarj/Rodon/Fulmer on the mound That's star power Time to deal Quintana, Puig, and any two prospect(s) not named Rodon, Anderson, or Fulmer for Puig and Guerrero. Agreed. At this point, you'd almost rather it happened in the offseason (due to the team chemistry consideration), but the Dodgers are desperate for a legit 3rd starter right now and that same situation won't exist in the off-season when their big pockets can work to their advantage in the FA market.
  4. QUOTE (staxx @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 06:02 PM) Abreu/Eaton is a pretty good start. Avi still has great potential 5-7 years from now and we'll likely add another bat just like the Royals will add a pitcher. Medlen isn't doing anything crazy for the Royals and Volquez isn't anything special. Zimmer has proven nothing and Ventura seems like he is a head case. They'll have a solid core with Perez and Hosmer for a while. I just believe that we have a better outlook. If you compare cores, though....Moustakas, Cain, Escobar, Perez and Hosmer, all in their primes, there's not much of a comparison. We have Eaton, Abreu and Cabrera (31 next year). Yes, Medlen and Hochevar are struggling, but that's to be expected your first half season back when recovering from TJ surgery. They were both brought on board with 2016 in mind, although the jury's out on whether the Royals will want to pay Medlen $10 million (mutual option). Zimmer is a work in progress and has battled injury problems, that's true as well. The other key factor to consider is that the Royals have long-term solutions for C, 3B, SS and CF, the four most important positions on the field right now to find impact players in this offensively-challenged environment. All four of those guys, along with Hosmer are equally good offensively and defensively. Avi Garcia at his best isn't the equal of Cain or Eaton for this very reason. We have Adam Eaton.
  5. Let's hope that lost run doesn't end up impacting the final score. Darn, 7-2 would have given the Sox some breathing room, oh well... TB leading the Tigers 4-1, we would go into sole possession of 3rd place but might also push the Tigers to deal Price/Cespedes/Soria, etc.
  6. The Red Sox announcers wondering what's up with the stir the pot thing Melky's doing...he's kind of taken that thing over from Eaton and Beckham and made it his own. Apparently, the Blue Jays have a similar tradition of sorts.
  7. Twins up 1-0 and threatening for more in the bottom of the 1st against the Pirates. They have to go 1-2 before Friday for the numbers to make sense.
  8. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 06:28 PM) This is a win-win. If we hold on here, and the Phillies win, then we're only 0.5 GB of Toronto. At that point if we're giving them Shark they better pay out the ass for him. There's no way we trade Samardzija to the Blue Jays now. Update: Bonifacio has a rib/oblique problem. Probably from last of use...
  9. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 06:26 PM) Would really be nice to have a base stealer on this team. We have one in the dugout, does that count? Doesn't seem Vincent Van Gogh has had the positive impact KW envisioned...although he has made Avisail an aggressive albeit ineffective basestealer. It would be nice if Eaton had Avi's attitude in that regard.
  10. Phillies have tied the Blue Jays 2-2, still batting in the top of the 5th. And the Phillies take the lead now, 3-2. Will there be a Tulo appearance later in the game? Did he make it to Toronto yet? Whoever's starting for the Cubs, he just gave up 4 in the first inning.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 06:15 PM) It is why you, I and others said you had to stay patient with him. Their was a history of success their and the eye test didn't see any noticeable fall-out in terms of his skills. He is regressing back to the mean (in this case, a very good thing). I presume we'd see the same with LaRoche (with slight decline due to normal aging), however, that might be impacted by his health as I think he's hurting. http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/batting/_/pos.../OPS/order/true Other than Hanley Ramirez (due to defense), Byrd and Cuddyer, he's still near the bottom...but obviously he's been a lot better recently. To be effective for the White Sox, he needs to put up a 750-775ish OPS. He's also one of the four guys still slugging under 400. Let's just say we're elated he's not a complete disaster and we can be fairly confident in him being better in 2016 and certainly don't need to worry about replacing that position as well...providing us at least three certainties in the line-up next year (along with Abreu and Eaton).
  12. Bonifacio injured. Knee or groin injury...he's definitely coming out.
  13. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 06:13 PM) Está quemando! I'm just going with the literal, lazy ESPN SportsCenter translation.
  14. You know things are going well when Avi Garcia walks.
  15. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 06:09 PM) Meh, so Pablo tagged one. No biggie. Samardzija is still capable of shutting them down for the next 4 or 5 innings. Nine consecutive starts with 7+ IP.
  16. Cabrera 14 for his last 24.... .583 En fuego.
  17. At least Balta will be happy his K rate's up this inning.
  18. Uh-oh.... Sandoval picks tonight to show up. Looking like a carbon copy almost of last night's game. Amazingly enough, the first homer over the Green Monster for Sandoval since he signed.
  19. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 05:59 PM) Saladino really isn't as fast as I thought he was Minor league stolen base numbers almost never translate to "MLB speed." He's pretty quick, but he's not a burner.
  20. Balt now up 5-2, TB leading the Tigers 1-0 in the battle for 3rd place.
  21. DeAza certainly never looked this determined to get on base when he played for the White Sox his last two seasons with us.
  22. http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/b...15/seasontype/2 No longer last in runs scored per game, and we've passed Tampa Bay so no longer last in the AL. 27th, with a full eight innings to add tonight. Miami and Seattle within hailing distance. Cubs at 98 games, 378 runs...Sox at 99 games, 351 runs and the chance to add even more tonight.
  23. Toronto leading the Phillies early, 2-0 going into the 3rd. Baltimore leading the Braves, 3-2, in just the top of the 2nd.
  24. Wow.... Bonifacio doubling there, what the heck? Gordon must be aggravated he's behind Boni in the line-up, the ultimate insult.
  25. Fans chanting for Pedro Martinez to come into the game, lol. Papa John's better fire up those ovens...or is that just for home victories? Miley hurting? Blister or hand problem? He threw a couple in the mid 90's, highest velocity of the season, not that it helped a lot.
