  1. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 11:56 AM) To me.... MBJ's Johnny Storm was very much still the Johnny Storm that people come to love through the comics. He was cocky, arrogant, hated authority and smart and was a bro to everyone on the team. It dosen't matter what the character's skin color is as long as those traits are there and even in that mess of a movie, those things were. And I would never go as far as saying Chris Evan's Johnny Storm as being the definitive intrepetation* of the character. Maybe the movie centered too much on Teller and Ben Grimm...that Sue and Johnny ended up getting short shrift, and the whole teamwork vibe kind of got pastiched in at the end by the studio. Fwiw, he was a lot more effective in Fruitvale Station, but, then again...much more central character, obviously.
  2. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 11:32 AM) Well if you're including Laroche In the group, then the list would be a mile long. Don't forget Paulino and Downs.
  3. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 10:11 AM) Can't remember the last position player they Sox acquired that actually did better than his career norm (someone give me a name other they Dye). Thome's numbers were comparable...and considering the aging/expected regression, better than his Philly numbers AJ Carlos Quentin (although not much of a track record) Eaton, compared to his DBacks numbers Jose Valentin...maybe offensively Pods compared to his second year with Milwaukee Iguchi, Ramirez and Abreu all outperformed initial projections Gillaspie last year, compared to SF Giants numbers
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 07:56 AM) Chris Evans was anything but a bad ass in F4 1 and 2. I think you are having a case of revisionist criticism Let's just say he's a lot cooler...and leave it at that. Maybe the character was meant to evolve in that direction during the planned sequel for 2017.
  5. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 12:20 AM) Please elaborate on this..... Making Sue Storm the adopted daughter of Dr. Storm...and changing the character of Johnny not only in terms of race but also temperament. He goes from Chris Evans/badass/chick magnet to more reminiscent of a less whiny Shia Lebouf.

  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 10:49 PM) Not trying to be a one-trick-pony guy, but to my Democratic friends, is this just a lull in the process time, or is Hilly really drawing yawns from Democratic leadership and they are not against Gore running or Biden getting in the race? I stand my my "Hillary wins in a landslide over Trump or Bush" but can I get my hopes up? Is there a chance the elder stateswoman is boring everybody and is there a chance she could lose the nomination?? Can I get my hopes up at all, or is this just the normal lull? It sure seems like Hilly is exciting nobody even on the Democratic side at this juncture. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/16/upshot/i...=0002&abg=0 All your answers are here.
  9. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 10:13 PM) The symbol part for sure is dead on. He is so bad at scouting position players you can't help but wonder if it's a bunch of Hawks out there drafting players. All the "he's the best since", "he reminds me of...", "he looks like x baseball player.". It's like that scene in Moneyball where the A's scouting staff is just horrible. That's Hawk every day. Except Grady Fuson was actually very capable as a scouting director and had a number of noted successes. There was skepticism, and rightly so, about the computer geeks/quants taking over and these kids who'd never played past Little League lecturing scouting departments with hundreds of years of combined experience. If you think the narrative is that simple (more than a decade later), then read Big Data Baseball or all the articles written about the Scioscia/DiPoto power struggle in Anaheim. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/billy-beane-...DFfMQRzZWMDc2M- With all of the teams looking at war, speed/defense and bullpen construction...the art of walking for hitters and not walking batters if you're a pitcher has turned into the new statistical battleground, with the premium on power hitters replacing the focus on starting pitching.
  10. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 09:26 PM) Do you have any facts behind this? Newspaper stories...anything? Not a rip at you, I just never heard / read anything along these lines. Mark There was never a specific story....with the front office "turmoil" narrative emerged that detail, which makes a lot of sense but nevertheless can't be proven. There were no quotes with specific front office sourced attribution attached.
  11. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 10:09 PM) That was before we knew what "stacked for a decade" meant. The Cardinals are the model, and the Cubs have copied it to a T. Given, they're not very far into it, but don't be surprised if the Cubs we see now continue to move and rotate MLB talent and replace them with the next big blue chip draft pick. Just look at the Cardinals. It's like whoever puts their darn cap on is suddenly just good. The Cubs and Astros are headed that way, it seems. The Cubs don't have enough AA/AAA depth to lose/trade Wainright, Wacha, Carpenter, Lohse, Miller, Kelly and Garcia without skipping a beat. That can certainly change over the next 2-3 years, though. All things considered, they've also had good luck health-wise with the entire roster other than Soler and Baez.

  13. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 09:57 PM) Remember back in 2003 when the Cubs were stacked for the next decade? A rotation of prior, wood, and zambrano! Young studs in aramis Ramirez, Corey Patterson, and bobby hill! Yea... Let's let this thing play out first. A lot can happen between now and the next 10 years. Cubs, like the white sox, don't exactly have the best track record of prolonged success so they still have to prove it when it matters most before we crown em. Kind of like the White Sox farm system in 1999-2000, the White Sox dynasty of 2005 and the first half of 2006 and the Gordon Beckham/Dayan Viciedo/Quentin/Danks/Daniel Hudson/Floyd/Alexei juggernaut as 2009 approached. Heck, all that talent coming into the system in the late 80's only turned into one actual playoff team.
  14. He has cut back on the golf and golf betting references at least.....they've got some of my money in Hamtramck, although it was pretty funny when he did that with Paciorek.
  15. At this point, they don't even have to trade Baez, Castro, Almora, etc. They'll have the money to go after Price. The biggest questions are Schwarber's defense in LF, Castro causing a distraction and whether the bullpen has enough quality depth to continue pitching well in the post-season. Other than that, with the exception of Lester, you're going to throw three starters with little playoff experience.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 09:11 PM) Hahn or Kenny or Jerry ... somebody was too scared to pull the plug and make some big trades a month before the deadline when it was obvious this team sucked. If the Sox weren't gonna make any moves 2-4 weeks before the deadline, they should have at least fired Robin to see if a new voice would have mattered at all. You can tell Hawk thinks Robin is overmatched. He kept mentioning all the mistakes. The fact he's NOT mentioning Robin at all, ever, shows how much he blames Robin. A lot. If he thought Robin was a good manager, he'd be saying players are accountable, etc. You just know Hawk realizes Robin is a buffoon or at least not a leader. Sadly, Robin's teams have sucked. How this team beat Madden 2 of 3 in Wrigley is an anomaly. Hahn supposedly was ready to fold in mid to late June. KW was the "all in" one again.
  17. QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 08:14 PM) btw when did it become taboo to be a Cubs hater? I've been a proud Cubs hater as long as I can remember and all of a sudden I can't hate on them because they have a good front office and a plan that has come together without fault (save Baez and Almora). Too much cub-hater hate on this board recently Pretty sure they didn't expect Castro to have negative value...or for Soler to look more Viciedo/Garcia than Puig/Cespedes.
  18. Rizzo showing why he's one of the best young hitters in baseball.
  19. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 07:41 PM) I spent 5 days in Glendale and was out every morning watching them taking practice so I don't think it's an issue of practice as much as it's an issue of talent. Then how can you explain the 2012 Sox defense being so focused for the first five months? Even Viciedo, DeAza and Alexei were locked in... It's a team mindset.
  20. Flowers not winning the pitch framing award there, lol...
  21. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 07:38 PM) Alexei amazes me how many errors he has this year. 1/3rd of that was the poor feed and also the inability to at least stop/block the ball.
  22. More gift runs. That's three now. Ramirez didn't get a great feed from Duke, threw flatfooted and then Abreu didn't block it.
  23. How is Ross still at second on that play?
  24. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 07:26 PM) Why would a Cubs fan throw a water bottle at Scwharber? Whoever it was just got kicked out. To set up or frame Sox fans for bad behavior towards their beloved new icon...? #conspiracyliguetheory
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 03:23 PM) So, 10 run game for King Felix today. So you're saying we need a health scare in the coaching staff to inspire our offense?
