  1. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 01:52 PM) Scotty has been very serviceable. Better than Paulino and Johnson. You spoke way too quickly, haha.
  2. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 12:48 PM) Mayo is consistently terrible Some of their high-quality former staffers have been pilfered by MLB teams...another reason. I think Callis has also gotten a little bit distracted by all of his TV work, and the majority of his questions are from fans of teams like the Cubs, Red Sox and Yankees...and then, finally, the White Sox system has been down for so long it's taking time for it to be taken seriously again. Until someone like Ravelo ends up producing (similar to a Gillaspie) at the major league level, there's still going to be that natural skepticism about our hitting prospects.
  3. http://thebaseballcube.com/players/profile...P=Moises-Sierra Minor league totals of a 739 OPS for his entire minor league career...and mid 600's in 400+ AB's at the major league level. Nothing about that screams everyday player at the major league level, like you could clearly see with Carlos Quentin's numbers. Pass. He's fine as a 4th outfielder and caddy to Abreu. Other than that, we need a better, more legit plan that that. Starting Sierra is a recipe for another 4th/5th place finish. Remember, the Twins have Buxton and Sano coming, two Top 10 MiLB talents, albeit both coming off major injuries.
  4. http://wapc.mlb.com/cutfour/2014/08/01/875...presidents-race The more you watch the clip, the funnier and funnier it gets. Just the idea of the former presidents, combined with that stupid Ian Ziering/Tara Reid movie....cracks me up every time.
  5. John Olerud or Mark Grace. Not going to happen, though.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 08:24 AM) I think Dempster is done. I read something that claimed the Red Sox were actually thinking about making Jose Abreu a third basemen if they signed him. It kind of makes you wonder with the ability he has shown at first base, and the transformation of his body, they expect him to drop 15 more pounds by next season, if the White Sox might think never say never to something similar. I would doubt it. Why tinker with what is working, and his chronic foot issues probably wouldn't be aided. It's not worth it. Don't want to try to get him to slim down more to play 3B, work on his agility and then end up hurting his ankle somehow. With those quick movements/reflexes to the left and right, and diving more than at third, just not a good idea at all.
  7. Butler is gone. But do we really need another bases-clogging RH hitter? If we can get him for $6-8 million per year and control his rights for at least 2 years, then maybe. But a one year deal and then losing him to FA doesn't help the Sox at all, since he wouldn't be around in 2016.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 10:00 PM) The presence of Abreu usually eliminates corpseball. He's contagious (except for Gordon). Petricka seems to have a little bit of extra motivation pitching in his home state. Like Belisario against the Dodgers.
  9. They need another hitter in the middle of the line-up or it's not going to be a competitive offense. There's certainly no guarantee that Gillaspie will repeat, and Abreu might lose some of his plate discipline if he starts to press too much again if they keep pitching around him constantly.
  10. Players #8-24 are worth a lot more debate, IMO.
  11. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 11:05 PM) Right next to the Len Kasper "I know more about rock and roll than anyone alive, and did I mention how cool I am?" banner. It'll be a set. Don't forget the "We At Least Beat the White Sox in Attendance Due to Iowa Tour Bus Grandmothers With Cubs' Hats Adorned with 100+ Pins and Drunk Yuppies Banner"
  12. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 11:19 PM) Such an awesome season for a .500 team... Abreu is now the first Sox hitter to have 10 PA in a row without making an out since ... Frank Thomas had 15 in a row in 1997. Makes sense. I was critical of Robin in the game threat but whatever the more important thing is this team has some good talent again and if they can find some decent players to fill out the roster they might have something good going for awhile. All their key pieces are locked up for at least the next 4 years. If Jose keeps this up, he's gonna finish around 330/390/630, lordy. Will he ever slump again? Like, seriously, he kinda owned the cuban league is this just who he is, one of the 5 best hitters in MLB? Other than Trout, who would you rather have? Miguel Cabrera's older and not hitting for as much power, more injury-prone. Giancarlo Stanton? Tulo? Puig? McCutchen? That's probably your Top 7, including Abreu...
  13. Thank god that's over. Nice to have some excitement this season in August and September (hopefully, with an impactful Avisail Garcia return). Guerra ends up with the win instead of Sale. Abreu is beyond white hot...he's a nuclear meltdown mixed with Sharknado.
  14. 97 MPH on that last pitch. Let's get the last strike and go home.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 09:54 PM) Nice pitch....Arcia scares me here Nightmares of Blanco, Bartlett, Rivas, Lew Ford, Sam Fuld, Denny Hocking and Matt LeCroy...
  16. One more out to go. Best defense is strike 1. Then strike 2. Arcia the batter.
  17. What is it with the Twins and these crazy late-inning disasters this season with the bullpen? Jesus...starting to miss Bobby Jenks.
  18. He was out at 1B. Umpire didn't indicate his foot was off the bag.
  19. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 09:42 PM) The process is as a manager you don't take your one remaining bench player that can play defense and sub him for the DH in a 1-run game Adam Dunn played SS and pitched in high school.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 09:35 PM) OMG, what a great game! Tyler Flowers, you deserve some postgame beer! I'm starting to respect Tyler Flowers. He never quit this season! f***in A. I'm going to copy this quote for if he ends up with below a 600 OPS next year, haha.
  21. That was a great slide by Viciedo, but without that new rule....Dayan's probably out and we only have a one run lead. There's even talk of making it basically a force-play where you don't have to tag the player...just making it a force-out/successful catch at home. In the Marlins' game last night, Stanton threw a runner out at home by a mile and the catcher was blocking the plate and NY overruled the out call. Mike Redmond went absolutely crazy.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 09:29 PM) Beckham should copy Gillaspie's style of hitting. Bad luck there, but great approach. Too late.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 09:30 PM) Because it is the DH position and the replacement is limited to being the DH. Once again Dumb Robin a little brighter than his critics. Ummm....does that mean you CAN'T pinch-run Garcia and then replace him with Viciedo if/when his spot in the order ever came up again????
