2015 MLB Draft
Aiken's looking at having to take the same $2.75-3.25 million that Jeff Hoffman ended up with at 9. Since this is going to be the second time around, it would seem he has even less leverage because he doesn't want to go back to IMG Academy for another full year of mixed results and then see his draft stock fall even further...at least now, he's guaranteed of getting around $3 million and $2.5 million as the very worst-case scenario unless medical evaluations raise even more red flags re: the TJ repair and the likelihood of it holding together for at least 5-6 years before another surgery,

Brady Aiken DID NOT SIGN
http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/i...teur-inequities Probably the difference of $5+ million and $3 million...like Hoffman's deal at the #9 spot. Might very easily end up with the White Sox.

I thought Hickory was the team from Hoosiers led by Gene Hackman and Jimmy Chitwood, lol.

Brady Aiken DID NOT SIGN
QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 06:23 PM) Hou took a huge hit at the time, i guess if they want to not take the high road, they can say in 1 statement, " we had some concerns" or "we told you so" Not necessary. They were right to be concerned. Bring in PTAC for a prognosis. The Aiken case is very complicated/unusual...so I'm pretty certain he wouldn't recommend taking him with the #8 pick...that the prognosis for a full recovery isn't clear at all.

Final Bullpen spots
Brandon Webb... Just kidding. I'm not sure how well Albers will hold up health/stamina-wise over a full season, but we can't be TOO confident in Petricka/Putnam/Guerra not regressing. Hopefully Crain becomes a big part of the picture at some point. That would provide a completely different feel to things...of course, we can't realistically expect 2012 Crain. Robertson Duke Crain Petricka Putnam/Guerra/Albers/Webb/Leon/Cleto/Sanburn Jennings LONG MAN That gives you four quality guys at the back end that are dependable/reliable, and some very nice arms/depth on the other side of the pen who can all threaten for increased roles.

Rodon comped to "a young Carlton"
QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 04:57 PM) Taijuan Walker has looked excellent this spring. If the White Sox didn't fancy themselves contenders, he'd be in the rotation getting experience. Except, in order to be contenders, they probably need him in the rotation. Dichotomy.

Final Spring Training Stock Report
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 04:12 PM) That wasn't luck. Paul Konerko came back so Leury couldn't get time in AAA where he could actually work. Paul Konerko might have handed Beckham $2 mil this year . Conspiracy theory, haha? I'm sure Hawk and Paulie lobbied Hahn/KW on Gordon's behalf. By the way, you can stick a fork in Webb making the OD roster, if he had even an infinitesimal chance entering today's action. Finally...just watch, Viciedo's about to play himself off the TOR roster...if not for some injuries that will open a 4-6 window, he'd probably be Charlotte-bound as well.

Final Spring Training Stock Report
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 02:44 PM) I think he's more lucky that Saladino went down for TJS. Or that Leury Garcia was abysmal at the plate last season. Or that Cl. Rondon is still probably two years away from impacting the MLB roster as a designated defensive wizard.

Rodon comped to "a young Carlton"
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 03:01 PM) Prior to yesterday's start, everyone seemed to think he needed to be in Charlotte for at least a couple months to work on his command and change-up. I don't see how one start, albeit a terrific one against the Royals A-Team, should change that. He had his slider working and that is why he was successful. He still needs to work on that change-up and overall command. The media got a little too crazy with one great start which was just four innings. Exactly the same as you'll see on Opening Day with one exception, Salvador Perez wasn't in the line-up. Those K's, in other words, were all quite legit.

Rodon comped to "a young Carlton"
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 02:40 PM) Is there video of him pitching this season somewhere? Based on how he looked last season he needs some time to tweak his pitching motion, he does not appear to get enough flexion in his torso during his delivery which can lead to back issues (which he has had in college) and then arm problems from compensating for the back soreness. The Sox have a lot riding on him being successful and I think they need to make sure that he is going to be an asset for the long haul. If he has corrected that, I would be much more comfortable with him taking on a major league workload. Are you PTAC's brother, lol?

Forbes 2015 Baseball valuations out...
Jumped from 2.34 million to 2.957 in 2006. 27% increase, roughly....let's just say 1/4 or 25% because a second World Series title in 2015 wouldn't provide the same net bump the first one did a decade ago.

Abreu Top Five candidate to be MLB leading HR hitter
http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/11470...41872-658620023 Nobody else (Cabrera, LaRoche, A.Garcia) in current consideration on the Sox side. 32 projected....I know, it's kind of a "duh" inclusion with Jose, but there are a lot of posters who believe his HR numbers will be down in the mid to possibly high 20's this season.

Final Spring Training Stock Report
Arcenio Leon is interesting. Did anyone get any feedback about Sanburn's performances/stuff? And what was the main reason Montas was roughed up quite frequently this spring?

Forbes 2015 Baseball valuations out...
QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 11:06 PM) The sox own 20% of CSN-Chicago. The Bulls stake is a separate ownership group. They do, however, have the right to buy the Cubs' stake. Which definitely will happen in that 2018-2019 time frame as the Cubs branch off with their own RSN. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=12557231&...egoryid=2521705 Is Forbes overvaluing MLB teams?

2015 Cubs Catch-All thread
Differences: 1) All the attendant media hype surrounding one year of eye-popping numbers in the minors 2) 107 years and counting without a World Series title 3) Gary Scott/Kevin Orie/Bobby Hill/Brooks Kieschnick/Hee Sop Choi, etc. Long string of busts in the infield for the Cubs. Shawon Dunston never even quite lived up to the hype back in the mid 80's. 4) Kyle Schwarber=Babe Ruth (enough said)

And Lane, ironically, hit a homer of his own.
