2014 MLB catch-all thread
Starting like Davis and Upton last year this time. The DBacks line-up isn't so strong that they won't just start pitching around him...although there's also Goldschmidt in the middle. Belt just hit his fourth tonight. Off to a fast start. Don't think he would be easy at all to pry away from the Giants.

(Insert Celeb Here) is Dead
QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Mar 31, 2014 -> 01:08 PM) Hobie Alter died of cancer. He was a pioneer in the surfboard, skateboard and sailing industry. Hobie Cat, right?

2014 Draft class
QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 07:04 PM) Haven't really paid attention to the hitters in this draft. Anyone worth taking at 3? Everyone seems to be behind Alex Jackson. Just not sure about him at 3.

Matt Lindstrom is the closer
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 07:43 PM) Put him on the DL then. He's got to be the worst Sox closer (on paper) since Hector, right? One of our worst closer candidates in history. If he's ailing, that makes it even worse. Is Webb any good??? Is Webb ready to be closer now? Probably not, but maybe a better option than Belisario. They'll definitely try Jones and Belisario before they go to a rookie, but anything's possible if the veterans completely implode.

Who's buying this excuse for Hawkins' 2013 struggles?
See Beckham/See Quentin.

4/6 White Sox @ Royals 1:10pm CT
Why in God's name didn't we use either Webb or Belisario in this inning?? Jesus. Why did we even give Lindstrom $4+ million when he was never that good? Abreu is going to take over Dr. Strangeglove nickname soon. Sale must be biting his fingernails.

4/5 Games
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 02:42 PM) Again, today is April 6th. This thread is named "4/5 games". Ooops...that's what happens when you leave your browser on and are barely awake at 430 a.m., haha. Too many beers at the coffee shop I guess. It's actually April the 7th, lol. China time.

Now we have to worry about the dreaded "non-save" 5-0 situation... Lindstrom has replaced Belisario. Flowers continues his hot hitting. Two more RBI's.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 02:37 PM) Sox taking their walks. Can't have a lower OBP than last year. That's for sure.

Was Perez trying to throw around Garcia and that's why he threw it that way instead of getting up and coming over the top?
-
4/6 White Sox @ Royals 1:10pm CT
Thank god for that. Winning (hopefully) Ugly. If we can't drive 'em in, let the opponents give us a run. Perez side-armed that one.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 02:33 PM) Especially with a guy up next who struggles to hit the ball in the air. DP ball? LOL. If anyone's due for a hit, it's Garcia.

4/6 White Sox @ Royals 1:10pm CT
What were we saying about fundamentals/moving runners??? Seems there has been no change since last year. Garcia's 0 for 15 now...you're taking the hottest bat out of play, albeit against a LHP. Don't like it.

Belisario continuing to warm up. Hmmm... Rare Viciedo walk. Can Conor get three hits in one game? Will that be enough for the bullpen? Bueno (He's GOOD, at least his name) warming up.
-
4/6 White Sox @ Royals 1:10pm CT
For the record, Belisario was warming up there. Dunn beats the shift. Should see Leury Garcia PR here. Theoretically.

It's not going to be a fun plane ride to Denver if Lindstrom blows his save. Sale might kill him. FWIW, intermittent snow and sunshine in COL today. Escobar's first hit of the season there. Just what the doctor ordered. By the way, Belisario was the pitcher warming up there just in case. 111 pitches from Sale. Valencia (ph Moustakas)/Hosmer/Butler/Gordon/Perez looming.

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 02:18 PM) Abreu robbed Twice this game. And then the Infante play on Semien. Bad luck. We have great plays from Garcia and Ramirez. With the two bad errors, which fortunately didn't hurt.

4/6 White Sox @ Royals 1:10pm CT
Abreu's challenged the wall quite a few times but yet to get that first dinger under his belt. Now things get interesting.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 02:12 PM) Aren't Webb and Downs our only two relievers who can get anybody out at this level? Belisario has a long, albeit somewhat erratic, history in the NL. If Webb's already our best reliever, we're in more trouble with the bullpen than previously thought. And Veal's actually looked okay so far...more or less.

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 02:08 PM) Still think Lindstrom starts the 9th if it's 1-0 after 8. Should be...entertaining. Against the heart of the Royals' line-up.

Cain/Escobar/Infante next inning. FWIW, Valencia had the highest average against LHP at .371 last year. When a pitcher does come in (if it's the 8th), do you go with Belisario or Webb?

Sale working around Perez to face Maxwell. At least someone's smart enough to know the odds are better against the lesser hitter.
