1st and 2nd, 2 outs. Another hit...10 in less than 2 innings. Amazing. Inning finally over. Mercy! And yet you have a feeling the Tigers' offense will manage to come back, down only 4 in the 3rd inning. Cabrera back from his "ankle sprain aggravation."
-
7-3 Royals...still not over in the bottom of the 2nd inning. 7 ER in 1 1/3rd, ERA all the way up to 2.81.
-
The more amazing story tonight is Verlander getting torched for 6 in the first two innings. Which doesn't mean the Royals will still inevitably win, but it's almost shocking considering how well he's pitched in the 2nd half.
-
As long as it's Humber, it doesn't really matter. But it could be damaging tmrw...Axelrod's just the sacrificial lamb to the slaughter if he gets ripped tmrw early.

QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 07:20 PM) Sale's fastball velocity has been way down since he struck out the second guy in the 2nd. 87-91, started the game 92-93. And the Yankees' start last week, 92-96...pretty consistently 93-94-95.

YAY!! Detroit's already up 3-0 over the Royals in KC. What new?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 07:12 PM) LOL, the standard SoxTalk game thread. Soon the "Detroit will win every game vs. KC, while the Sox will get swept twice by KC" crowd will bless us with their presence. It's not out of the realm of possibility, but nobody was expecting us to sweep the Yankees and the M's coming in with an 8 game winning streak. If Ventura makes the correct bullpen decisions last night, we're riding a 7 game winning streak and Chris Sale into tonight's game. Instead, we're already worrying about Axelrod tomorrow, Sale's arm strength and a possible 4 game sweep going into DET. Whatever you say, last night really destroyed all of our momentum and somehow we have to get it back before we head into DET. On the other hand, we've only been swept by the Tigers and the Royals this season...and those were three game series. Still, I don't think anyone would be shocked either (by a four game sweep)....because of our recent history with BALT. This team is so enigmatic and hard to predict this year.

And Verlander's going tonight.

LOL. Of course, Lew Ford strikes again...after playing for an independent league team and bulking up from his Twins' days. You just had to expect he would bedevil the White Sox this series, SOMEHOW. We REALLY have to figure out a way to win ONE game this series!!! All the momentum in the world is quickly going against us.
-
Yet another gut check. From that 8th inning on last night, everything is falling back to the usual pattern against the Orioles. And BALT only 4 1/2 games behind the Yankees. At this point, we would have to be elated with that same 1 1/2 game lead we had going into DET last time that quickly turned into 1 1/2 games down...and then quickly reversed itself again 7-10 days later. In the end, the bullpen just hasn't done a good enough job to build that 4-5-6 game cushion we legitimately should have based on the other elements of our team...starting pitching, defense, home runs, etc.
-
Just when he's cruising along, it all falls apart. Walks, walks, walks. Simply killing this team in the last two games...and we were lucky to survive a lot of them last week, but the baseball Gods won't let you get away with it forever.

There definitely is evidence about bringing in additional revenue in the case of Japanese superstars like Nomo, Ichiro, Hideki Matsui, Dice-K, etc. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I'm sure the Mariners' front office could tell you how much he was REALLY worth to their franchise over the last decade.

8/27 White Sox at Orioles

Angels with 20 blown saves. White Sox tied for 2nd in the AL with 18. Sigh. Plus, Thornton's confidence is probably a bit shaken now, not being used in such an obvious situation against McLouth, who had previously owned Myers. -

I was okay if Myers didn't walk Reynolds there and got two easy/quick outs. But once you put that guy on base, you have to go to Thornton, pretty much. -

Surely, Thornton will face McLouth, but I would leave Myers in there if he gets the first two outs easily. Seems a lot better than bringing a cold pitcher into the game for one out. -

Had the perfect match-up against a fastball pitcher...DP ball from Paulie. -

Why does it seem every team we need to lose ends up facing the Indians these days? A's about to beat the Tribe, Rays and Rangers tied in the bottom of the 5th in Arlington. -

Enter Myers. At least at this point in the season, we're going to our "A" pen guys in a tie game on the road. Nice to see, finally. No more time for "on the job training." -

Horrible and then GREAT job by Crain there. Can't believe it's still tied. -

Thank god for the only 2B worse offensively in the AL than Gordon Beckham. Since Weeks is in the minors now... -

Lew Ford curse strikes YET again. Amazing. Seems his fastball velocity is down a touch. The one Ford hit was 92 and right over the heart of the plate. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 27, 2012 -> 07:57 PM) AJ really struggling at the plate of late. Bat speed has slowed down from a few weeks ago. And he's actually rested quite a bit more in the 2nd half. But the positive is it's bringing down his contract demands/salary for 2013, if there is one. -

How many tying or go-ahead RBI's does Youkilis have this year? It's uncanny, his sense of drama and timing.
