  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 09:19 PM) In an article on chicagosports.com, Santiago said he game planned to throw change-ups to Reddick in that AB that led to the bases loaded walkoff walk, but he ended up throwing outside fastballs. Seems like he was throwing Gimenez under the bus. Reddick said he was sitting on the fastballs, was 100% comfortable in that at-bat...and felt in command.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 09:14 PM) At this point, you might as well let him stay up here and take his lumps and hopefully learn how to retire MLB hitters with his new stuff. Then they better send Santiago down to Charlotte, because making him the last reliever in the bullpen of an 85-90 loss team is unfathomably bad management of an asset. It's pretty clear we can't expect him to have good enough control coming out of the bullpen either...especially in single inning stints in pressure situations. History shows he needs to settle in over 2-3-4 innings to get his control.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 09:13 PM) Isn't the success rate for pitchers regaining their velocity after shoulder surgery pretty terrible? Johan never came close to gaining his velocity back, IIRC. The better question is what pitcher has ever come back from rotator cuff/labrum/shoulder surgery and been better or even the same as before?
  4. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 09:12 PM) Caulfield, I should have never doubted you When teams are on this kind of streak....you kind of expect something to go wrong. From the quotes in the papers, it seems the players are all feeling the same way, unfortunately.
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 09:11 PM) Do you think his velocity is never coming back? I mean, yeah he's going to suck without his regular stuff (like he has tonight), but is there reason to expect him to never return to his old self? Not arguing, just trying to understand. You're pretty scaring the s*** out of me right now. History is not on his side...the odds are probably less than 50% he's ever the same pitcher as before. PTAC would have a lot better insight than anyone about what he's going through right now.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 09:09 PM) The concern with Danks and this style is his command has never been great. He was effectively wild with his fastball up in the zone when he was on. The thing is, other than Sale's start...the White Sox shouldn't be favored in any of their next 5 games after this one.
  7. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 09:08 PM) Shoulder surgery is a very tricky return. I him write him off like the rest of you until May-June of '14 Cue Marty appearance. 3, 2, 1...
  8. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 09:06 PM) I'll take having Gillaspie's defense at 3B and not having Viciedo's in. Has Keppinger ever even played LF? Now's not the time to be experimenting. And Jeff's range has been extremely limited at 2B, one could hardly imagine it would be any better in the OF. Danks is very frustrated, smacking his glove and looking agitated not being able to put away Ibanez. GAME OVER. That's what happens when your stuff is diminished. We're not even seeing Danks against some of the better hitting teams.
  9. You have to have Buehrle control to pitch like that... Danks' best pitch is the change-up, but when the speed differential's only 7-8 MPH, the margin of error is razor thin. And you definitely can't pitch from behind in the count.
  10. There's your White Sox 1B for 2014....Kendrys Morales. Too much topspin. Lucky it didn't go out. Morales has been on fire. Looked like a surefire homer. 8th double in last 14 games, over .300 now, Morales es en fuego. White Sox have lost 7 road games consecutively now.
  11. Keppinger in the OF is definitely NOT a good idea... DH against LHP, okay. But then Gillaspie would have to be a better option against LHP than Dunn (which is going to be an argument in the coming weeks).
  12. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 08:39 PM) Wilkins with the line of the year so far: 0-1, 4 BBs, 1 RBI, 2 R. His last AB was his only out. He must have heard about the low OBP with the big league club, lol.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 07:10 PM) “@scottmerkin: Dunn gave the thumbs up on his back today. First time in a while felt this good” More excuses...sigh.
  14. DeAza 5th in AL number of pitches per plate appearance but it's not resulting in very many walks. So Alejandro's covering all the territory of what not to do as the lead-off hitter (except for Ricky Henderson or Mike Trout). K'ing and putting the ball into the air in the OF. Yeah, yeah, he's terrible against LHP, we know that. Up to Hahn. Or playing Rios/Wells in CF, which isn't a good option, either.
  15. The energy of Gordon Beckham doesn't include above average speed like Derek Jeter.
  16. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 08:50 PM) Danks is pissed. Hopefully he uses his pull that lets Jordan on the team to get Flowers off it A really good pitcher can pitch over those mistakes against a team like the Mariners.
  17. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 08:44 PM) Hawk's ideal lineup: 1) Southerner 2) Southerner 3) Southerner 4) Southerner 5) Southerner 6) Someone from San Pedro de Macoris 7) Southerner 8) Southerner 9) Southerner 1 or 9) Carlos Gomez Puig singled in his first AB, hitting leadoff. Ramon Hernandez and Scott Van Slyke (could have been claimed by any team in baseball) hitting 4/5 for the Dodgers tonight.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 08:40 PM) Sure sounds like Hawk feels losing Eduardo Escobar's energy is what caused 2012 Sox to choke. The last time it really felt exciting was when Youkilis was dominating for 2-3 weeks last summer. Then the air just went out of the balloon on both him and the rest of the team...and it became a matter of survival, like the end of 2008 again. And maybe that game where they beat the Tigers the final game of a series, Reed closed it out and it felt like they were actually going to hold them off....alas, didn't work out that way. Pretty sure the lead was 3 games then.
  19. White Sox are going to set an all-time record for passed balls this season...
  20. QUOTE (DukeofChicagoA1 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 08:36 PM) Go kill yourself Flowers Chillax.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 08:32 PM) Free Casper Wells vs LHP!! 2 years ago, Lillibridge/Stealth Elf....now the Friendly Ghost as Dunn's nemesis. White Sox apparently had early batting practice starting at 2 o'clock today. Keppinger hitting close to 400 over this stretch of 14 games. (Can Kepp play outfield? It would be hilarious if he becomes our DH at some point later this year.) Another useless Flowers PA.
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 08:30 PM) Viciedo likes that park. Can we play Brian Anderson in CF tomorrow night?
  23. Another productive out for Dunn.
  24. Not exactly a textbook double there, but it counts in the box score.
  25. Warning track power. C'mon Paulie, we need you to go out on a good note.
