  1. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Aug 27, 2012 -> 04:07 PM) love the houndstooth pants Jake! Roll Tide! Peavy looks like Jeremy Renner here...Hawkeye "We've got a man there."
  2. There definitely is evidence about bringing in additional revenue in the case of Japanese superstars like Nomo, Ichiro, Hideki Matsui, Dice-K, etc. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I'm sure the Mariners' front office could tell you how much he was REALLY worth to their franchise over the last decade.
  3. Angels with 20 blown saves. White Sox tied for 2nd in the AL with 18. Sigh. Plus, Thornton's confidence is probably a bit shaken now, not being used in such an obvious situation against McLouth, who had previously owned Myers.
  4. I was okay if Myers didn't walk Reynolds there and got two easy/quick outs. But once you put that guy on base, you have to go to Thornton, pretty much.
  5. Surely, Thornton will face McLouth, but I would leave Myers in there if he gets the first two outs easily. Seems a lot better than bringing a cold pitcher into the game for one out.
  6. Had the perfect match-up against a fastball pitcher...DP ball from Paulie.
  7. Why does it seem every team we need to lose ends up facing the Indians these days? A's about to beat the Tribe, Rays and Rangers tied in the bottom of the 5th in Arlington.
  8. Enter Myers. At least at this point in the season, we're going to our "A" pen guys in a tie game on the road. Nice to see, finally. No more time for "on the job training."
  9. Horrible and then GREAT job by Crain there. Can't believe it's still tied.
  10. Thank god for the only 2B worse offensively in the AL than Gordon Beckham. Since Weeks is in the minors now...
  11. Lew Ford curse strikes YET again. Amazing. Seems his fastball velocity is down a touch. The one Ford hit was 92 and right over the heart of the plate.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 27, 2012 -> 07:57 PM) AJ really struggling at the plate of late. Bat speed has slowed down from a few weeks ago. And he's actually rested quite a bit more in the 2nd half. But the positive is it's bringing down his contract demands/salary for 2013, if there is one.
  13. How many tying or go-ahead RBI's does Youkilis have this year? It's uncanny, his sense of drama and timing.
  14. Liriano with solid outings 5 out of 6 times now. We'll take that. For Hernandez and Escobar? Huge steal.
  15. Turn on the computer, of course, 100% believing Lew Ford would have been the one to hit a homer. Curse of the Twins and former Twins, lol. And he was hitting in the 160's coming into the game, with Davis on the bench.
  16. So many great quotes this year from AJ and Harrelson. What did he say during the Blackburn game..."Let's hit this piece of s***!" or something like that? And then Blackburn finally got released or DFA'ed. Surprised we haven't picked him up, too. "It's all good!" has a limited shelf life, though. That one will quickly get old...next season even.
  17. Either Santiago or Quintana would be better to face the Tigers on Friday than Axelrod/Humber. Setting the tone that first game out is just critically important. We saw what happened last weekend series there. We lost Friday, then it really snowballed when Sale lost the Saturday game (can't remember who lost the first game, maybe it was Peavy? or Sale, then Peavy?). Just remember Saturday was a regional FOX afternoon game. Scherzer and Verlander have BOTH been pitching like Cy Young candidates the last 15 or so starts out.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 27, 2012 -> 08:04 AM) Yeah, if you would have told me that we would have lost our pre-season #1 starter (Danks) to a shoulder surgery, and we would have gone through two closers, not to mention losing Paul Konerko for two stretches this year, and having nine rookies on the roster at the same time at one point, I would have wondered how high our 2013 draft pick would have been. Four closers, really. Santiago, Thornton, Sale and Reed.
  19. Yeah, look at the Angels. They hit it huge with both Trout and Trumbo in two consecutive years, they have Pujols, Kendrys Morales finally back, Kendrick, Hunter, on paper, they should have a great rotation or at least one of the better ones (Weaver, Haren, Greinke, Santana, etc.)...and they're STILL probably going to miss the playoffs with that payroll. Just goes to show the importance of a bullpen as well (see Marlins, Miami for example #2)...and how Mike Napoli emerging and becoming a force with the Rangers really changed the balance of division offensive power temporarily.
  20. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Aug 26, 2012 -> 10:05 PM) That's a pretty gruesome mix. Kenny does 1 of 2 things this offseason IMO: he continues adding youth (late September fade/quick postseason exit) or he tries to extend the window another year. If he goes the youth route then you'd have to think vets are traded & in those deals we end up adding much better pitching prospects to the equation, completely excluding Axelrod, Rienzo, etc. Or if Kenny goes for it, we'll add a vet or it'll be a good, relatively proven young guy like Quintana as the #5. Yep, subtracting Peavy/Floyd and the possibility for regression from Quintana makes things a bit scary, to say the least. Still, I'd rather tempt fate if we could retain Liriano somehow than with Floyd. There aren't very many trade candidates left that would net us much. Thornton and Crain wouldn't get us back any A level pitching prospect at this point. That would mean we would have to continue to turn the roster over and move Alexei Ramirez to get something quality back in return. You might be able to live with swapping out Flowers for AJ, but losing Youk, Ramirez and possibly replacing Beckham is going to be a huge turnover. That's why even though he's the most obvious weakness, moving Gordon at this point shouldn't be considered a Top 1/2/3 priority. The only other starter on the horizon would be Brett Myers, if he contract kicks in for 2013, but I can't believe KW would let that transpire. No way they can afford $10 million for a 7th/8th inning set-up guy with Thornton and Crain already making big dollars.
  21. Making it even more doubtful we'll pick up that 2013 option... Just too big of a risk, trying to trade him. Of course, the danger is having too many lefties with Danks, Sale, Quintana and ???/???. Santiago, Humber, Axelrod, Castro, Molina and Rienzo are all in the mix, one would think.
  22. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 26, 2012 -> 07:17 PM) Feels very 2005ish. Minus the lockdown bullpens of 2005 and first half 2008 when you just expected every single one run lead or tie game to end up in the Sox victory column if you got to the 7th or beyond...
  23. Whoever was asking, Victoria Justice (Fun Size) is the actress in my avatar. BTW, White Sox only lost one game against the Mariners all season, and that was a game we SHOULD have won and blew.
