  1. I thought originally Span was going to the Nationals....?
  2. QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 07:31 AM) Every thread comes full circle.. Some faster than others.. Like this one. Isn't that a quote from Rambo: First Blood, lol?
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 06:36 PM) Just because no one claimed him doesn't mean teams wouldn't want him. The Twins aren't in payroll dumping mode. If they were, they would have let Mourneau walk and open up first base for Mauer full time. How could they let him walk if he has a guaranteed contract at least through the end of this year? That's partly why they considered dumping Span, and they let Cuddyer, Kubel and Nathan go, not to mention Hardy and Punto.
  4. FWIW, Robin hasn't had the team travelling in suits or business attire on road trips/flights all season long.
  5. It would be pretty aggressive to not have him at KANNY for at least 6-8 weeks to start in 2013. Not unheard of, but we haven't had this talented a hitter in our system since Beckham when he was first drafted. That said, he was playing high school ball just weeks ago...on the other hand, he's older for his high school class and has that athletic build so physically, he's already there. Could go either way.
  6. Andre Rienzo (SP) Santos Rodriguez (LHRP) Taylor Thompson (RP) being groomed as the future closer? http://www.mlb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?si...&pid=543853 http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/pro...Taylor-Thompson (44th round pick from Auburn in 2009 draft) Carlos Sanchez (INF) Andy Wilkins (1B/3B/DH) Trayce Thompson (OF) The "Double T" alliteration is a tongue twister. Taylor Thompson and Trayce Thompson on the same team... 27 of the MLB Top 100 picks are there. My MLB.com accessibility just went down here in China, but all the team rosters are currently up on that site if someone wants to link it. No Mitchell, Petricka, Phegley, Molina (need him to rest this entire off-season, same with Beck), Castro, Leesman, Kevin Vance, etc. Everyone predicted Thompson and Sanchez. Wilkins is a surprise. And maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention, but Taylor Thompson wasn't a name on the tip of the tongue, either. Saladino not being on the roster is a bit of a shock, although maybe they were limited to only one middle infielder?? Wilkins plays the corners.
  7. Gimenez is a VERY good defensive catcher...another version of Corky Miller. Offensively, MEEHHHHHHHHH.
  8. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 09:30 PM) We can call up a player for paternity leave? Many baseball players may be surprised to learn that Major League Baseball has a new groundbreaking paternity leave program that allows players to take up to three days off for the birth of a child. The program, launched in 2011, makes it easier for players to take time off for the birth of a child by allowing their team to fill the roster spot by calling up another player. The issue was first raised by general managers at their annual off-season meetings and was quickly approved by the players’ association and MLB. “Players were torn between their family and leaving their team a man short,” MLB spokesman Patrick Courtney said. “Baseball understands that players need to be with their families, but there was no rule to replace the player. Because of that, players were feeling pressure.” Prior to the new rule, players often missed the birth of their children. As detailed by Sports Illustrated, Former San Francisco catcher Bob Brenly was told he could be at his child’s birth, but only if he were able to fly back to New York in time for the game. Ex-outfielder Tom Grieve missed a birth because he couldn’t leave a spring-training game with the New York Mets in 1978. As recent as 2005, Freddy Sanchez, then a utility infielder with the Pittsburgh Pirates, was told that he could be at the hospital with his wife, but the team rule was that he had to be back in uniform by the seventh inning, regardless of whether the child had been born or not. While three days may not seem like a lot to some new parents, it is certainly a step forward in changing a culture where any time off was forbidden under most MLB team policies
  9. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 09:30 PM) We can call up a player for paternity leave? Yeah, I think it's either 3 or 5 days.
  10. And DeAza had a good Game 2 for Charlotte....Hudson playing as well down there. So when is DeAza eligible to come back from his assignment? Wise/Viciedo platoon in LF, or Wise to the bench? You could make an argument that Wise should be in CF and DeAza in LF, but it would be pretty shocking if they changed things around at this point in the season. Still, it would be the best defensive arrangement, in all honesty.
  11. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 08:11 PM) 1/4 with a 2B in Hawkins debut so far. Game is still in extras Hawkins ended up 1/6 with a K. DeAza 2/3 for Charlotte. Probably will come back Friday against Tigers? Hudson also rehabbing down there. What do you do with Wise? Platoon him with Viciedo, one would guess...we'll see what Robin decides to do.
  12. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 09:46 PM) His stuff looks just as bad as when he was here. Where is Jake to defend him?
  13. Back to 3 games up. Momentum firmly back with the White Sox again. Crazy season. Was expecting a two-run bases clearing double there again. The look on Cabrera's face when Dyson robbed that liner was priceless. Angels sneaking back into it....only 1 1/2 games behind the Tigers after tonight, probably, and 3 1/2 behind the Orioles. When is Oakland going to struggle?
  14. Thankfully, Dirks didn't get to 3B on that hit. Still have a chance to hold them off. Wish they would have kept in Chen. The curse of the closer.
  15. Dirks, Cabrera and Fielder in the top of the 9th. It would be VERY tempting to put in a RH reliever against Cabrera, but Chen deserves a shot at the shutout, too. And if he does get out Miguel, it's a good lefty/lefty match-up against Fielder.
  16. Should have claimed Guthrie. That would have nullified at least one Sox loss against the Royals, lol. In all fairness, the Tigers rallied and had a REAL good chance to win that game in the end. Verlander shut them down in the middle innings. Who would have done a better job out of the Tigers' pen? Nobody. If he was still struggling in the 3rd, it would have been quite obvious to pull him, but he righted the ship and almost managed to get a win out of it. Now if Justin gets rocked by the Sox on Sunday night, there will be a lot more second-guessing, but he's always responded well in pressure situations and seemingly has never had a problem with elevated pitch counts year after year after year.
  17. Here's one of those classic managerial decisions for the Royals. Pull Chen or let him finish the shut-out. You almost have to leave him in...and he's "only" at 100 pitches.
  18. Royals had 2 opportunities there to push in the 2nd run from second base and couldn't get it done. Sanchez with a great game, around 120 pitches, but still on the downside of 1-0 score.
  19. Nice to see Bruce Chen be-deviling another team tonight. Tigers really are a LOT more vulnerable on the road than at home.
  20. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 06:59 PM) Awesome start by Dylan. He has made some huge, huge starts for us this year. White Sox Farm System Rules!!!
  21. This game is perfect evidence why baseball betting is crazy. Any logical person would have picked the Orioles with Sox on the road, after Monday's disappointing loss, the 2 hit last night...Detroit bearing down, Axelrod on the mound. The key apparently is LEW FORD NOT being in the line-up for Balt. That's 50 RBI's for Beckham now. Everyone in our regular/everyday line-up now at 50 or higher. Viciedo when he hits his next homer will give you 5 guys with 20 homers (Dunn, AJP, Konerko, Rios). Youk would be 6.
  22. Incredible. A Sox catcher who hardly has played for 60-70% of the season gets a SAC bunt down. Tyler Flowers has opened some eyes recently...and got some new believers in his camp. Pretty amazing with AJP's overall season numbers that many are clamoring for Tyler to play more often. Good situation to have, though.
  23. QUOTE (Caesar @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 06:39 PM) He was actually saying about how he cant believe the size of the crowds for the first 2 games of this series with Baltimore only 3 games behing NY and with the way they are playing. We are in first place, have been for awhile. The teams plays hard and can't sell out Sox park. They shouldnt even talk about crowd size. Apples and oranges. With dynamic pricing in the Sox ticket market, they're maximizing revenue but not crowd sizes. Sox overall attendance really isn't important, it's simply total revenue derived from those who do attend. They would rather maximize the experience of those "high net worth" and corporate clients rather than cater to the needs of "middle class" fans. They do have discount and half price nights, Family Days, etc., but the overall feeling for the Sox fans of the Veeck Era is that you're not quite as welcome as you once were. It is what it is....without keeping that 20% of the fanbase that attend 80% of the games happy, you wouldn't have the payroll numbers we've posted since 2006.
