GT: Chicago White Sox @ LA Dodgers
QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 06:53 AM) Who said during that AJ is lazy discussion that they wanted to roll with Flowers and Phegley? Do we want to pay AJ Pierzynski $15 million for the next 2 seasons? Other than Napoli, there are ZERO free agent catchers that are interesting options. Maybe Doumit would be okay, Iannetta's the other guy there. The thing is, we'll never know whether Flowers could be serviceable hitting-wise because nobody in baseball can be effective playing once every 10-14 days.

Now we have to use up our bullpen when Quintana was in a position for the complete game, knowing that Zach Stewart's chances of getting past the 5th inning tmrw night are about 5%. The AL Central just is going to be a grudge match all season long. Still, with Fister back now, you'd have to expect the Tigers to start making their run.

Dodgers have never won an interleague series against the White Sox until today possibly. The funny thing is that it should have been a sweep the other way. Guess AJ isn't available. 0 for 4, 4 K's from Flowers, that's what happens when you play once every 2 weeks. Now Escobar? Is Ventura trying NOT to win this game on purpose? This is taking one out of the Ozzie Guillen playbook of managing. Still don't understand why DeAza didn't take a shot at swiping 2B, either.

Well, if nothing else, Quintana is proving he's for real. Since we never can win extra inning games, maybe Ventura should start earning his money and utilizing his bench now. Still has Konerko and AJ, and Alexei can be used as a pinch-runner.

Thanks White Sox bullpen. Choked away two leads in this series. Leading the American League in blown saves. And of course we can't get a good throw out of Rios and haven't played worth a damn in extra innings. Well, all things considered, this game should have been tied anyway, but it absolutely sucks for Quintana not to have a chance to finish it.

Nice to see the White Sox aren't the only team with bunting problems in the big leagues. Huge out there. Let's get this pesky kid to hit into a double play.

Well, this decision is going to get second-guessed...and first guessed. Who called for yet another FB with 2 strikes? No slider?
-
GT: Chicago White Sox @ LA Dodgers
78 pitches, 58 strikes. Orlando Hudson in the game at 3B? I guess RV thinks Hudson is actually better defensively than Lillibridge over there. Reed 8/8 in save opportunities so far.

Danks was told by Dr. Yocum there's nothing wrong structurally, but apparently he's still going to seek a second opinion. Someone with the White Sox? Any more updates?

Some insurance runs would be nice here. We have LOTS of options off the bench to do some damage, starting with the best hitter in the AL...but those first three hitters aren't too bad. Capuano one away from his career high in K's, which is 13. Bellisario and DeJesus into the game. PH extraordinaire DeJesus Jr. will lead off the bottom of the 9th.

His upper body/momentum left early...but his foot was still in contact with the bag, so Darling or Jerry Meals were definitely wrong. Umpires weren't in a great position to see the play, and strange for the 3B ump to defer to the home plate ump when he should have been the one to make the call. Jesus, Ethier is playing the hell out of RF today.

Charley Steiner says that's the angriest he's ever seen Don Mattingly in 20+ years. Standing O from the sell out crowd.

Mattingly ejected, predictably. He's torqued.

Thought Treanor left too early. Not the best throw from Rios there, should have had Treanor at the plate. He left early...wow!!! Got a break there. Great catch by someone with the coaching staff. Amazingly, only 60 pitches for Quintana so far through to get through the 6th.

Can we please find a big league 3B?!
QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 04:07 AM) Chase Headley, Chris Nelson, Ryan Roberts, Ian Stewart could be some names to look at at 3b. Headley probably too expensive in terms of asking price, Nelson not much of an upgrade (concern about converting from Coors, NL to AL), Stewart's been terrible for the Cubs. Someone mentioned Inge, but he wouldn't have gotten to us on waivers, and there's no way we were going to pick up his salary.

Lillibridge playing way too far back for a notorious bunter in Treanor. I remember that guy killed us when he was playing for the Rangers or Tigers. DJ likes him because of his Gold Medal winning beach volleyball wife. He was going on about the interview they had with her and Farmer didn't even remember it. White Sox killer Elian Herrera up.

Quintana can't keep this up much longer. 1.67 ERA is unreal. Viciedo easily could have been 3 for 3 today if not for a Gold Glove caliber catch by Ethier. Carlos Quentin at .392, 6, 13, 1.359 OPS.

Lillibridge lined that ball earlier right at 2B earlier in the game...we would have plated at least one run there. Beckham gets Brent to 3B. Need for Dunn to make contact. Dodgers playing the infield back. Tiger Woods...goodbye to another major. Four years now without one. Probably not going to catch Nicklaus, now.

Tyler Flowers has really made a ton of strides defensively. Didn't think he'd get there, with how he looked when we got him from the Braves.

Chris Capuano, 2 TJ surgeries, Phi Beta Kappa from Duke Univ. Adam Dunn now 3/24 when hitting with RISP and 2 outs Against LHP, .189, 7 homers, 18 RBI's Swings and misses 60% of the time 103 k's, 52 bb's

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 04:23 AM) How old is Quintana? Is he a surprise or considered a good prospect? 23. Wasn't considered as anything. Signed by Mets at age 17 out of Colombia, released within a year. Picked up by Yankees, pitched all last season for their High A team in the FSL. Everyone's raving about his stuff (Ventura compared him to Alvarez), his "heavy" ball coming into RHHer's, usually throws 88-91 MPH but keeps his pitch counts low...esentially a two pitch pitcher but has been very effective this season, although nobody really knows his eventual staying power.

Hindsight is 20/20
There weren't many arguing we should have kept Edwin Jackson instead of either one, but that might have been the better one year move (maybe one year plus a mutual option, yeah, that would have been hard to pull off with his agent wanting to set him up for the 3-4-5 year deal) just to see where things were in another year...yet not giving up the ability to compete at the same time. Or maybe Roy Oswalt. Edwin and Cooper seemed to have a pretty good partnership. Still think Danks at those dollars was the more logical sign than Buehrle. Heck, you can argue the Sox knew that someone would overpay (especially a team like the Marlins) and they might eventually bring him back at bargain-basement prices in terms of his contract being 25-50% subsdized by another team. As a season ticket holder, I wouldn't have had any problem with Viciedo and DeAza being starters....they actually would been two of the biggest reasons for wanting to watch this team in 2012, having an injection of new blood/energy/excitement into the line-up. Morel, well, you can understand why they weren't going to replace him after the way he played the final 6 weeks. As much as losing Buehrle is being blamed for the falloff, it probably has more to do with the KW/Ozzie feud, not making the playoffs for 3 years running and the disappointing play from Peavy/Dunn/Rios and Beckham, who at one point looked like he would be our version of Derek Jeter and came into 2012 another bad season from being out of the organization. Just all the booing and negative feelings around the team last year...they weren't very fun to follow at all, even 2007 was much more fun from a fan perspective despite the Sox "sort of" being in the division race as late as middle August.
