Maybe the Indians, who I think are close to the worst bullpen in the majors, can bring us back into this game? Getz 5/13, .385, against LHP so far this year (unfortunately didn't make contact against KC last week, same game Ramirez choked away). Did Harrelson say "dad gummit" and go off on the umpires for that strike call on Getz?

QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2009 -> 08:03 PM) If only Hahn could be the GM and Stone the manager. I would love to see it. I bet Stone would be a little prickly with player relations in the beginning, but I don't think he would ever give up his restaurants/investments and "easy life" with Lisa except it would be a big challenge, and he has a healthy ego, not quite like LaRussa, but close. (They would still be able to make it to Taco Bell for late night "Fourth Meals" as an added bonus.) From listening to him all last year and this year, I think he'd do a great job.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2009 -> 08:03 PM) About what? At least with Javy, like it or not, he'd give you innings. We have DJ Carrasco, Broadway, Egbert and Charlotte for that.... Why would we need to spend $10+ million on a decent major league pitcher with 4 pitches and almost a decade of 200+ innings each year??? You're on the crazy train, Fathom!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 11, 2009 -> 07:57 PM) You still only move Jenks for a King's ransom. He's getting more expensive yes, but the economy may well hold arbitration totals down, and he's probably going to be a guy that we can get draft picks for if he walks some day. JD, Thome, possibly Dotel...we're not going to get picks for them if they depart at the end of the year...so it makes sense to just save the money if we can. But, if Papelbon continues to set the market for relievers in Bobby's year, it's going to pull up Jenksie with him, whether we like it or not. It's not like the arbitrator will say "well, the Red Sox are more profitable while the White Sox just had 1.7 million in attendance, give JR a break..."

QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ May 11, 2009 -> 07:50 PM) Here's where you just need to look at the back of the baseball card. (Actually, with Lillibridge, that's pretty accurate.) Look at the back of KW's "GM card" since the end of last season. Flowers better be great, and able to stay at catcher at the big league level.

I'm going to guess he's changed his stance too much, he's concentrating too much on going to the opposite field (as a 2 hitter) and he's trying to emulate Quentin with the crouch. The thing is, having 20/20 vision and a healthy knee doesn't always guarantee hitting fastballs, but it should help somehow. 491 OPS for Ramirez, 447 for Lillibridge. The race to 500 continues.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 11, 2009 -> 07:36 PM) Pavano has been getting hammered most of the year! Floyd looks like crap again! FWIW, he has won his last two starts, even though his overall stats look crappy, he's been "decent" recently. Joins the list of Harrison (2X), Bergesen, Adam Eaton, Brian Tallet, Brandon McCarthy, now Pavano can be added to the Wall of Infamy for the Sox offense. .311 BAA Floyd this year so far. Only 4 homers, all by LH hitters.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 11, 2009 -> 07:35 PM) Why would it be so gutsy. He won 17 games last year with an ERA under 4 in the AL. Unless you are dying to see Lance Broadway get Felix Diazed every 5th day I would rather see if Floyd is salvageable. 3/5s of our rotation is a mess right now and the team isnt hitting at all. I wonder if KW was ever offered Edwin Jackson? In retrospect, that would have been the best possible move. Matt Joyce was just a throw-in. Everyone was questioning whether he could improve his peripherals, but he's been as good this year as Floyd was last year early on.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ May 11, 2009 -> 07:29 PM) Everyone on this board says it's a great deal. Why wouldn't The Nats or Pirates take a chance considering how hard it is to get Free agents to sign with them? The Nats, maybe. The Pirates, no way, not in this economy... If his ERA climbs to Contreras territory (8+), it would be a REALLY gutsy move for another GM...maybe the Yankees would take a shot, too. Dodgers or Angels other possibilities.

QUOTE (whitesoxmanager @ May 11, 2009 -> 07:28 PM) when are we going to learn to just BET against this team? we could all retire.. That would be dangerous with the Indians, because they always kick in into gear when they're pretty much dead and buried. Thome is listening to SoxTalk advice to morph into a Lillibridge/Fields opposite-field singles hitter.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 11, 2009 -> 07:21 PM) Why exactly was Getz positioned so deep towards 1st with a right hander up. Between the pitch calling and some of the defensive positioning you wonder what the hell is going on. Probably Floyd completely missed his location. I don't think they'll bring in Gobble for Martinez (or Choo), but they might wish they had in 5 minutes.
