2025 WNBA Thread
On Monday, a WNBA fan shared on Reddit an email from the LA Sparks, stating the team is refunding all "season tickets so they can sell them for more money." "With interest in the WNBA growing at an accelerated pace, we are constantly analyzing and evaluating our business strategies and opportunities to enhance the fan experience," the email from Sparks senior vice president Jerry Murphy read. "To that end, we have determined that we need to make some adjustments, which will directly impact your account." Murphy continued by writing that the refunds will be coming in roughly three weeks. "We are working with our AXS ticketing partner to refund the full amount of your payment(s), directly to your original payment method. Refunds are typically processed within approximately 21 business days, depending on the credit card that was used for the purchase. All LA Sparks tickets are revocable licenses." yahoo.com/sports

Official NBA 25-26 Thread
https://sports.yahoo.com/nba/article/is-jayson-tatums-achilles-injury-the-cost-of-the-modern-game-and-increasing-physicality-190613862.html Towns leads a growing trend of stretch 5s which demands a defender to follow the big man for a much larger surface area on the floor. Whether it’s Nikola Jokić in Denver, Chet Holmgren in OKC or Myles Turner in Indiana, having a stretch 5 is the norm for title contenders now. Hell, Draymond Green is averaging more 3-point attempts in this series (5.8) than Reggie Miller did in his postseason career (5.7). Notably, the rise of the 3-point shot across the league has run parallel with the increase in player injuries, but there’s also a third variable: player movement. According to recent research from Sportico’s Lev Akabas, NBA players are covering about 9% more distance per minute on court than they did a decade ago. Akabas wrote in his post: “It’s no surprise that the more miles a player puts on his body, the more likely he is to get injured.”

Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.
Scorched two balls yesterday that both turned into outs...as long as he hits the ball more frequently things will even out.

Pete Rose, Shoeless Joe, and other Black Sox members removed from MLB permanently banned list
"Let’s be clear: MLB’s willingness to accommodate Trump on Rose is about more than typical political pandering. The commissioner's office is surely worried about the administration’s sway over (1) the league’s antitrust exemption and (2) the hundreds of work visas granted to Venezuelan and Cuban ballplayers each year. There are no indications that a direct quid pro quo has taken place, but Trump’s tendency toward aggressive and, at times, punitive immigration policy has likely contributed to MLB’s hyper-careful approach to the current president." https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/article/pete-rose-reinstated-by-mlb-eligible-for-the-hall-of-fame-how-we-got-here-and-what-it-means-015535778.html Dan Wetzel espn "Still, there are owners and commissioners in the Hall who worked for decades to stop baseball from racial integration. That's a far more widespread impact on the integrity of the game than betting on your team to beat the Dodgers. Yes, sports wagering is always a concern and was once a major taboo. But public opinion and business realities changed. There are sportsbooks inside MLB stadiums these days, including, for a stretch, with Rose's old team in Cincinnati. History is history. The game is the game. The museum is the museum. Tell the story, the whole story, with all the best players and best teams and best tales, no matter how colorful, criminal or regrettable. America can handle it. Our real national pastime is scandal, after all." https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/42931802/wander-franco-trial-reset-june-2-key-witnesses-missing

5/14 Games
Chase Burns vs. Birmingham isn't going to be very pretty for the Barons.

H. Reynolds to B. Montgomery "You'll be in the big leagues this year"
No no and no...you play him at the position where he has the most value. And Meidroth still needs to show more than a 600ish ops.

5/14 Sox at Reds (6:14 pm)
https://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=Team Still have a long climb up. Only team with negative bullpen ratings. Only three teams in the teens...Rockies Sox and Marlins.

We have hope, we got The Pope!
Break on Through to the Other Side, White Sox.

5/13 Sox at Reds (5:40 pm)
Just no way this team improves by 29 full games with less talent on the roster than last year. 45-55 wins, sure. They would need to start beating the AL Central much more frequently as well.

5/13 Sox at Reds (5:40 pm)
I guess that was calculated assuming the loss after tie score lol
-
5/13 Sox at Reds (5:40 pm)
Smith 4.8 fWAR pace Thaiss 3.2 Vargas and Cannon 2.0
-
2025 MLB season...catch-all for non-Sox, non AL-Central
Rockies 27-135 pace exactly 7-35 1 win per week, basically
-
5/13 Sox at Reds (5:40 pm)

5/13 Sox at Reds (5:40 pm)
The dreaded four run lead the undoing of many a bullpen...
-
5/13 Sox at Reds (5:40 pm)
664 OPS for Vargas...seems to be a season high for him. Second most useful position player after Thaiss.
-
5/13 Sox at Reds (5:40 pm)
GETZ is a demi-God now. Vargas the best trade acquisition in the history of deadline deals.
-
5/13 Sox at Reds (5:40 pm)
DARK LORD MEIDROTH grinding...well, it works/counts. 93.8 EV on the ground to the right side.

5/13 Sox at Reds (5:40 pm)
Here comes team co-MVP Matt Thaiss to pinch hit...
-
5/13 Sox at Reds (5:40 pm)
There's the Rojas Seattle fans grew disenchanted with last season. Great role player, great defender...but not an RBI guy at crunch time.
-
5/13 Sox at Reds (5:40 pm)
Things are going to get REALLY interesting in the bottom of the 10th with this bullpen...
-
5/13 Sox at Reds (5:40 pm)
Elko commits the cardinal sin of NOT advancing the runner. Well, not totally surprising, we don't coach our minor league sluggers to play small ball.
-
5/13 Sox at Reds (5:40 pm)
82.5 SWEEPER

5/13 Sox at Reds (5:40 pm)
Sox and situational/RISP hitting not usually a good mix...

5/13 Sox at Reds (5:40 pm)
Not sure it was a brilliant idea to wake up de la Cruz from his offensive stupor the last couple of weeks. He's due to go on another tear.

5/13 Sox at Reds (5:40 pm)
Trust me...from watching Wilson for years in SD, he's NOT THE CLOSER WE ARE LOOKING FOR, lol. He's strictly the back end of the bullpen, but his low ERA must have tricked our manager or analytics team.
