Opening Day 26-Man Roster
Minus the Univ of Michigan name drops...

Because we're STILL debating the word "great." Okay, slight internet hyperbole to provoke conversation...gee, that never happens online or specifically around here, right? So if I said that lots of posters said that Eder would be "very good," then there's no argument at all? Semantics. The reason I picked Meidroth is because he's exactly in the same #7-10 prospect range as Eder originally was after the trade. But hardly anyone would argue Chase is going to be "great." Or would they run out and buy his currently non-existent jerseys in the Sox souvenir shop? Serviceable is not quite the right word, so "above average" major league production, maybe??? Except Eder was at one point a consensus Top 100 MiLB prospect...something Meidroth has never been classified as. Whatever the word for Meidroth's CURRENT potential is, it's fair IMO to apply to a prospect at roughly the same level organizationally in a much weaker system two years ago, 45 FV.

Making up? So a team's #7-10 prospect would be described in what terms, then, pray tell? Pretty good/decent/fine/so-so? I suggest you re visit that thread if you're going to say I'm lying. Great doesn't mean he's going to win the freaking Cy Young award. (Matt Thornton was great for the Sox for stretches, or Damaso Marte...about the highest most could have ever hoped going by revisionist history.) Except most weren't assigning a high leverage reliever ceiling at that point in time.

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
Roughly half of the pitching injuries are to guys who barely break 90. Carela Thorpe and Gilbert can barely break glass. And Adams is hardly a flamethrower. More of a finesse guy.

Subtracting Gilbert leaves B.Wilson and Vasil as your swingmen/blowout coverage guys. Then Iriarte Nastrini and Dunn behind them with Owen White gone.

Fine he would be the equivalent of all the Chase Meidroth love this spring...choose your slightly less glowing adjective. Meanwhile, it's nearly two years later and not one young hitter who can put up a 775-825 ops yet at the big league level.

Put the thread back up from when he was acquired. There was a TON of hyperbole about his former prospect rankings and potential before injuries...if you were against trading Burger, you were basically declared an idiot.

He was actually the closer for stretches last season.

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
Gilbert was not impressive...except for the no no in his big league debut for AZ. Who did they trade for him again? Get Coffey Pallette Schoenle and Tanner McDougal ready to go because replacement needs will be abundant.

Go look at the defenders of how you always trade for that once golden left handed arm vs. an older/aging bat first corner prospect profile. They held onto that argument for quite some time...until ERA walks/control and radar gun readings relegated him to being a reliever, which quickly undercut upside/potential arguments. At least Burger is on a team many now favor to win the AL again, instead of the hapless Marlins. Especially after everything he's gone through with his kid's health.

Colas DFA'd. Greg Jones claimed
Sure because I've only watched more movies and tv shows than anyone on this board combined...but kind of hard to be in on it when every US social media site gets blocked here in China and I didn't have the VPN on because it slows down SoxTalk so much.

Who the hell is Mike Jones? That seems even more generic than Greg Jones or Greg Allen.

Fuller Will Fix Him…Rays already gave up trying. And the second or third worst team in baseball…depending on how you rank Colorado and Miami.

Jones DeLoach Fletcher Maton Cal Mitchell…Knights’ fans must be totally excited about their outfield. No pitching either, but they get an infield and catching tandem at least.

Can we PLEASE have some fucking offense? I heard over and over again how great Eder was going to be…but Burger was the only player two years ago who was actually fun to watch hit, along with Robert. I thought baseball was supposed to be about entertaining the fans? Well, I guess Vargas (and AAA Meidroth) walks are…fun? No, not really. Not when nobody can actually drive them in.

Another former Sox Top 100 prospect bites the dust. Exchanged for #91 from 2022 lol.

Opening Day Thursday 3:10 p.m. versus Angels (not the game thread, lol) Who's going???
Probably because the last winner thread has the right to make it from Detroit series last year. That has always been the way it works, last Sox winner thread starter initiates the next one. Whoever that is…is that not common courtesy? Weather is not important or relevant to an Opening Day in Chicago? The other reason is because I’m not even sure about waking up at 4:00 am tonight when the actual lineups are posted officially. It’s going to be a long season if people are going to fight over posting styles or how much of a true fan someone is or how bad a GM Getz is all season long. Jesus. How about you start some threads around here then if you want to optimize your fan experience? I at least took time to find the starting lineups…as well as projected rosters from reading different sources, pardon me for actually caring about this fucking frustrating franchise. (I also can’t help it I was right about Shane Smith and Chase Meidroth…)

Canario has that 847 mlb ops. Jones is more of a defensive replacement and PR.

Scouting grades: Hit: 40 | Power: 50 | Run: 70 | Arm: 55 | Field: 55 | Overall: 45 Jones was Draft-eligible as a sophomore in 2019 and became the highest ever pick out of UNC Wilmington when the Rays selected him 22nd overall. After signing for full slot value at $3,027,000, the speedy switch-hitter made a strong first impression with a 163 wRC+ and 19 steals in 48 games with Class A Short Season Hudson Valley. Jones got a few weeks in at Tampa Bay’s alternate site in 2020 before making his true full-season debut last summer. After suffering an early quad strain, Jones was a promising age-23 performer at High-A Bowling Green (.291/.389/.527, 13 homers, 27 steals) and received a late promotion to Double-A Montgomery, where he was overmatched in a short sample. Jones isn’t your typical speedster prospect. His plus-plus wheels indeed catch scouts’ eyes first, and the Rays say he might have the best straight-line speed in the organization. However, he also possesses impressive bat speed capable of resulting in some rockets out of the box. Swing-and-miss concerns, however, have only gotten worse in 2022 and have caused his stock to tumble as a 24-year-old. The Rays came away most impressed by Jones’ defensive improvements at shortstop last season, and while it was thought he would eventually move to center field, that has become less of a concept as he’s made more highlight and 50-50 plays at the premium position… #91 prospect in 2022 lol DENVER -- The intriguing features on the scouting report for Rockies debutant Greg Jones are his game-changing speed, potential to play several positions, and more power than one would expect from a player with the aforementioned attributes. It’s a package for a spark-plug player. Jones certainly added a little combustion to what had been a mundane spectacle for the Rockies for nearly nine innings at Coors Field on Monday night. Jones’ first Major League hit was a two-out, pinch-hit homer into the right-field stands.

Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
While simultaneously "starving" the major league team to death like it's the equivalent of the US government...just a sad state of affairs for Sox fans who were grasping for basically anything to feel optimistic about.

For now, SunTimes hints Amaya starter at SS (Maton Gray Baldwin Jankowski all boarded plane for Chicago)
Jankowski (Venable's TX connection) and Baldwin feel the likeliest to to stick...but it really doesn't matter if Brooks is going to just sit and rot on the bench. He'd be better off in AAA getting regular at-bats...except for his own personal finances and pension eligibility. But Montgomery and Meidroth are set in Charlotte...leaving 3B DH or OF. Elko at first. Just dump Colas Fletcher or DeLoach. Cal Mitchell as well.

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/03/dodgers-david-bote-upward-mobility-clause.html David Bote in pretty much the same position as Brandon Drury (except for Dodgers)...please don't give Brooks Boyer any ideas Getzie.

That leaves Dunn as the third starter...unless we're going to really dig deep and go with Tanner McDougal's big but raw stuff.
