  1. "Bergolla has a compact left-handed stroke and focuses on putting the ball in play, ranking seventh in the Minors in swinging strike percentage (4 percent) and eighth in strikeout rate (11 percent) last year. He generates extremely low exit velocities and a lot of opposite-field grounders, and he'll need to get a lot stronger and change his swing and approach to ever produce much power. He homered just once in 168 games and slugged .354 in his first three pro seasons. Growing up around the game, Bergolla developed a high baseball IQ that adds to his value as a runner and defender. He has plus speed and swiped 27 bases in 33 attempts last year after going 4-for-8 in his first two pro seasons. After playing primarily at second base in the Phillies system, he spent most of his time at shortstop with the White Sox. He has range to both sides and exhibits average to solid arm strength." 2025 Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 20 | Run: 60 | Arm: 50 | Field: 55 | Overall: 40 Last year at 45 FV https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/william-bergolla-703151?stats=career-r-hitting-milb
  2. "Presumably, the Yankees will consider their options to upgrade their rotation externally. Available free agents include Kyle Gibson, Lance Lynn, and Spencer Turnbull, although none of those names offer anything close to the star power the Yankees lost. Thus, if GM Brian Cashman wants to find a top-of-the-rotation replacement for Cole, he’ll have to turn to the trade market. Some of the most interesting potential trade candidates include Sandy Alcantara of the Marlins, Luis Castillo of the Mariners, and Dylan Cease (more likely due to Scott Boras representation, higher perceived value) and Michael King (likelier to extend?) of the Padres. The most recent reporting on all of those pitchers suggests that an offseason trade is unlikely, but a desperate Yankees team could certainly change that." mlbtraderumors.com Alcantara would cost them a lot more than Jasson "The Martian" Dominguez.
  3. "Having given Montas and Manaea a combined $109MM, the Mets faithful want to know how the team doctors green-lit those deals. Likewise, Yankees supporters question what Cole’s physical exams missed after the Bombers convinced him not to opt out and walk away from the $144MM left on his deal. As a former baseball executive, I’ve fielded those same frustrated queries. Forecasting player injury risk involves far more art than science, often leaving teams and fans dissatisfied. I hear these complaints frequently since I live in the NY metro area and contribute to SNY’s weeknight show, Baseball Night in New York. There’s rarely a satisfying answer because the assessment process is highly imperfect. Every veteran pitcher has wear and tear if you look hard enough. Acute injuries occur after the fact. Let’s examine how it typically works, its key flaws, and some ways it could be improved." https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/03/millions-medicals-and-maybes-the-maddening-art-of-assessing-player-health.html
  4. General manager Brian Cashman still has a club that boasts an enviable cache of talented starters. Even with Cole out for the season and reigning AL Rookie of the Year Luis Gil down with a lat strain for a few months, the Yankees have a strong quartet of Max Fried, Carlos Rodón, Clarke Schmidt and Marcus Stroman, who seemed destined for the bullpen at the outset of camp, before the downpour of injuries. The fifth starter spot will come down to veteran Carlos Carrasco or youngster Will Warren, who impressed in 3 2/3 innings on Monday. “Not a death sentence for us, by any means,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone opined on the broadcast before the news about his ace had even dropped. But there is no replacing Cole. ... Pitching is a violent, volatile pursuit, one that collects victims by the dozen and can strike ruthlessly in an instant. And Cole’s injury, considering his recent past, cannot be considered a surprise. Given the “mileage” as Boone put it, built up on his arm, Cole was, in some ways, ducking doom with every pitch he threw. In the end, even one of the game’s most methodical workers and most durable workhorses was no match for the always-lurking dangers of hucking a baseball 95 miles per hour. And now, it will be quite a while before the Yankees’ enduring, domineering ace gets to put on the pinstripes again. https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/article/with-gerrit-cole-undergoing-season-ending-surgery-where-do-the-yankees-and-their-ace-go-from-here-234241902.html
  5. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_5_draft_results Look at 2023...more than half had to be offered back to their initial organizations.
  6. And the fact that he's throwing harder than anyone in the entire organization other than Grant Taylor...plus, it's not a guarantee. Aren't the majority of Rule 5 picks offered back to their MLB teams at $50,000?
  7. Always/inexorably seems to be the dreaded "forearm soreness" as a precursor.
  8. S.Wilson for example. Clevinger for closer. Drury and Gallo. Narvaez might get traded or go to Charlotte. Lee/Thaiss also could be traded. Dalbec is history. Shane Smith is on the team due to ST.
  9. He has a ton of opposite field power. Quero seems more like Narvaez with better initial catching skills...but ore of a doubles and RBI "complementary" contributor.
  10. Martin Perez and Bryse Wilson? They will shoot higher than that. Perez is an outside possibility though.
  11. There are some exceptions. Meidroth and Gallo, for example. This spring is probably cementing Drury on the roster, and the lack of playing time might be pushing Baldwin onto the backburner and onto the Charlotte roster (obviously, having to go with Vargas and Sosa because of lack of options hurts him as well). Montgomery's uncertain health is pushing him off the OD roster as well, unless he REALLY tears it up at the plate his last two weeks or so. Shane Smith is currently emerging as a national baseball story due to Spring Training (and being located until Tuesday at the same site as the Dodgers for ST). Yes, there's always Ryan Sweeney and Wilson Betemit counterexamples, too.
  12. Luis Gil is out for at least 3 months as well with a lat, not to mention Stanton's elbow problems (possible surgery). That puts Marcus Stroman back in play for NYY in the short term. Rotation is "Marcus Stroman, who appeared to be on the outside looking in at a five-man rotation, will almost certainly reclaim a spot as a starter, with the Yankees still in search of a fifth. Carlos Rodón, Max Fried and Clarke Schmidt will fill out the rest of their rotation." The trade with the Yankees/Padres now bites even deeper, because they also traded Brito and Vasquez from their starting depth, as well as Ian Thorpe (now obviously with the White Sox).
  13. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/44197050/new-york-yankees-ace-gerrit-cole-tommy-john-surgery Start the trade rumors, stat! Please move to Diamond Club after the initial excitement/signs of consternation die down. Once again, the pitching injuries are piling up with key contributors across MLB.
  14. SSS... Need at least 20 at-bats, which is still ridiculously low. Nothing more than a snapshot. Teel has definitely impressed a lot of people this spring, though. Making things tougher on Getz, but he SHOULD start at Charlotte regardless of what he does in ST and who takes notice of him (outside of the Sox organization).
  15. That's what the Chiefs and Eagles always do exceeding well. Saw that Laremy Tunsil (Texans) was moved for what looks like a bargain...see how much gas is left in the tank with that one.
  16. And his ex son-in-law Joe Molloy might end up being the front man down in TB if Stu Sternberg is pressured to sell...and let someone else take over the stadium deal or move the team to ORL, merging with the Barry Larkin-led consortium.

  18. Less annoying than Susan Waldman over at YES, and Jessica Mendoza, IMO...
  19. That's just not going to happen. One would ride the bench unless the other was DH/1B and Korey Lee has been solid this spring. Even Narvaez has done well today.
  20. CWS 5-11, SD 4-12 Ahead of 9-20 pace last spring, just barely. Teel with another spring bomb. Single rbi double two run Homer for Teel. Triple shy of the cycle. Three homers counting Sasaki blast haha. Homer to the opposite field most impressive aspect.
  21. Higher on Quero than almost anyone. Way down on Colson.
  22. Bergolla sac fly 8-3. Out to Esteury Ruiz. Perfect situational hitting. Lipcius up next...DeLoach struggling today. K's.
  23. Infielder playing LF crashed into wall on Teel double.
  24. Vargas with yet another walk. Then an Omar Narvaez single. Also saved a run with a great stop last inning. Taylor with three k's on the day now. Teel with a huge double. Outfielder hurt. Opposite drive to the wall...runners second and third.
  25. Game again. 6-3 with runner on second and third one out. Bases loaded...uh oh. Katz out. Infield still back. k and grounded to Rojas gets Wilson out of the inning...good recovery
