  1. That was my idea all along. That Kim was going to be there as a veteran presence to stabilize the infield...and maybe some of the fundamentals of how to play the game as taught in Japan and Korea would rub off? That there would be upside in his contract if he performed anywhere close to his 4-6 fWAR capabilities...assuming he was going for a 1-2 year deal with his shoulder in the state it was and status uncertain coming into 2025 for a contender to rely upon. Heck, we can throw out Amaya or Baldwin or anyone for 2-3 months and it wouldn't matter in the least. I would target a 2026 trade deadline move with him, probably...obviously depending upon the contract signed, no trade clauses, options, etc. It was strictly based on the idea that Montgomery ideally ends up at 3B (and worst case, 1B) and can concentrate 100% on his offensive game, instead of worrying about his defensive flaws that would be exposed on a daily basis at the major league level for all scouts and Keith Law's to dissect. Hoffman's a fine idea as well, depending on the price. God knows we need arms across the rotation and pen.
  2. The bottom 50% of teams are all at least acting cash strapped with the RSN hits across the board.
  3. $19 million potentially...we don't even want to pay Robert that.
  4. Then 1984 1994 2001 2006-2007 2009 and 2022-24 comes along to kill all hope lol. If it's not that, Adam Dunn in 2011.
  5. But they also weathered a strike and loss of 1994 that wiped out 33% of the fanbase in one fell swoop. Decimated the Rust Belt teams, really. Cincy Detroit Pitt Baltimore Minnesota Southside Cleveland. Heck, KC still not the same even after 2014-15. They didn't draw all that well despite a playoff run because all the one in that city flows to the Chiefs.
  6. Apparently they don't want to (or can't afford to) spend any more in free agency...it's the cheap "holding pattern" or year to year approach the White Sox perfected under KW.
  7. Pathetic. Better to hold Luis prisoner until he decides to hit his way to a continuing team at the deadline.
  8. Just because the Sox core tv product has been eroded to now hoping to give it away for free doesn't mean there's not a huge market share there for the right owner who invests efficiently and insightfully into his product. Unfortunately it's currently worth almost less than zero in the hands of JR...unless they can somehow sell enough advertising and sponsorships in future Sox seasons (and stadiums) to offset production costs. But we keep heading for Nashville King on this extended trajectory of doom crossed with Major League the movie with a lot more star power than the current White Sox.
  9. Chris Davis STILL haunts that franchise lol. More of an impact than Navarro, Dunn and Danks combined to their collective psyches.
  10. Also depends on how big one's belief is in Marte...but seems they don't want to mess with de la Cruz at SS and of course they finally moved on from India for Singer. McLain is the key...great two years ago and mostly injured last season.
  11. That it was a dumb signing and nearly everyone in that thread had the same concerns...Hahn simply ran out of FA's to sign and panicked on the years in order to secure him when nobody else was offering more than three...not even the Yankees. Exactly how he ended up with Dallas Keuchel when a better but more expensive pitcher in Wheeler was needed...
  12. Except we lack any scouting or relationships in the Pacific Rim. I have spent more time in Japan during these last 2-3 years than anyone professionally associated with the White Sox. We have the same brand image with these players that we do in the Dominican. One step would be bringing Iguchi back as more than a token.
  13. Why are you going back to his prime years with the Red Sox to evaluate him when he clearly wasn't that player any longer? 2.3 is the total fWAR for those those three prior years...or 0.7-0.8 per season. We bought him off a 2.1 fWAR anomaly...roughly a 1 fWAR to $7.5 million valuation, pretty standard except buying off a high. Not surprisingly, worth -0.6 since then in two Sox seasons as his defense has collapsed and he never had a strong arm to begin with. Which is why the White Sox are going to wait another 2-3 years to unload him unless they send prospects with or eat 60-75% of that salary.
  14. Look at the signing thread. He was never a good move for this franchise...just like the Royals were wise to move on from him when they did. They bought at a high point and now are still looking to sell at a discount with few takers. And your main argument that he's sort of an average player is completely writing off FG evaluations??? Sounds like you and Jeremy Haber would get along great.
  15. The problem is that almost all of his value's on the offensive side...and we know how that story goes minus steroids as players hit their 30's. A player like him or Teoscar or even Arozarena are best generated internally...then jettusoned when they get too expensive. Unless you're a team that can afford a $200+ million payroll and have the media rights deal to back it...otherwise you need to be selling out your stadium on a lightly basis like the Padres.
  16. Not only that, but LaRoche Eaton Sale ended up tearing the team right down the middle as Ventura decided to check out...
  17. Look at Benintendi's three prior years to that one outlier though. Take him out of the NY lineup and look what happened. And also going from Gold Glove to one of the worst defenders in the outfield across all of baseball...with a Juan Pierre/Pods arm to boot. Just another version of Melky Cabrera from a previous generation of bad FA moves.
  18. Because almost all the damage those guys are going to to do in the future will be done at age 30 or later...it's like taking on the Tua, Daniel Jones and Trevor Lawrence contracts simultaneously and then trying to fill out a cheap roster around them. We were in this same exact position from 2013-2016 with Sale Q Eaton and Abreu. It might "win an off season" or even sell some tickets...once...but the fans have seen this same old bait and switch now too many times to count. They're not going to blindly support a rebuild again unless you prove something to the fans first. The Sox have pretty much laid down a consistent track record now of being scared to death of committing to any long/er term deal because of how badly they've been burned with both internal extensions and external FAs. Right now...the Fedde deal feels like almost wild spending.
  19. Haven't been able to trust Ewers or Beck all season long...
  20. Haven't been able to trust Ewers or Beck all season long...
  21. Young core offensive players either got hurt or didn't sustain initial success...or never even found their Sox identity, guys like Kopech and Lopez in addition to the oft-mentioned Robert/Moncada/Jimenez. Veteran signings/trades like Grandal Keuchel Kimbrel Meat and Potatoes Benintendi Graveman Kelly all hit downsides instead of peaks. (Rodon and Anderson went from All-Stars to players who "disappeared" without replacement.) It was really these first two hits simultaneously with the "next wave" of talent coming up dry...that 29th fWAR ranking.
  22. Bears would have picked 8th but beating the Packers pushed them down to the dreaded #10 Sox spot.
  23. Frazier had two ASG appearances and then that HR Derby title in 2015...he was arguably a higher profile addition than the much quieter Santander would be from a marketing standpoint. "My butt goes out. I swing with one hand sometimes. It's kind of like Vlad Guerrero kind of swings, though he's definitely a lot better than me right now. It doesn't matter how you look or how pretty you are, it's just a matter of getting the job done. That's always been my motto." - Frazier, Todd. USA Today. Lemire, Joe. Staff Writer. Frazier Bred to be All-Star Ambassador. 6 July 2015. Section C-1.
  24. Only Judge last year arguably moves them to that top tier...but they ended up with Chapman and an often injured KBO CFer who still cost a pretty penny.
  25. Sure but those teams play better defense, steal bases, can execute fundamentally and have solid bullpens. That still requires the equivalent of a Bobby Witt or Jose Ramirez star level player to carry the team as well. Look at the numbers that Lugo Wacha Ragans and Singer put up in 2024 and explain who on the Sox rotation outside of Schultz/Smith in the future could put up numbers like KC did last year.
