2025/2026 College Football Thread
The Sugar Bowl will not be played Wednesday following a deadly pickup truck attack in New Orleans that killed at least 15 people and injured dozens. Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley said in a news conference that the College Football Playoff quarterfinal between Georgia and Notre Dame would be delayed by 24 hours and that other information would be released as possible. The decision to postpone the game came after the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans underwent a security sweep after two improvised explosive devices were found at the scene of the attack in the French Quarter district. espn.com Crazy/gutsy call there with the fake punt by ASU with 4th/9 on their own 21. Points here at least makes it a game again...especially a TD. But Boise State and ASU kicking games let them down.

That ASU fan shaking his head just now pretty much encapsulates the entire bowl season so far. Then you have Oregon Ohio State rematch in the quarter finals...maybe the two best overall teams in terms of talent, and meanwhile PSU gets Boise? Just have the Big Ten top two vs. SEC top two lol.

This misses Rodon (2014 the cutoff), Anderson and Tatis...but yuck. The crazy thing is almost every one of those picks made it to the majors. Just with limited MLB impacts. Top 10-12 is who's who of elite front offices. Red Sox and Yankees well off the pace.

Hopefully at least 1-2 games today can live up to the hype. ACC has been getting smacked around this bowl season.

To be updated when Sasaski signs in the next couple of weeks. If you took the vote again today, the Mets would suddenly appear with the combo of Stearns and Cohen's financial largesse.

Vargas and Fletcher have to play . . . be given every chance to succeed . . . Right?
His CF defense is questioned...along with the viability of his RF/corner bat.

But this feels like dinging the Patriots under Belichick and Craft for their politics massage trips or Brady being overlooked by everyone. The Chiefs are right up there...generational QB who signed a below value/flexible contract to accommodate more talent on the roster is 75% of it. The Dodgers with their deferrals and marketing to Asia and monetizing Ohtani/their brand globally are transforming how the entire sport does business. A Taipei investment company paid $4.5 million for that 50/50 Ohtani HR ball just to put it on display for customers. How many fans of the Dodgers on that island will result?

Do your worst. it's probably Bauer and Urias with DV. By that measure, ding the Rays for Franco.

Allen has had that one lousy game down the stretch and then will probably sit this last one...but that throw to himself for the diving TD might have clinched it. Burrow has some many weapons around him...comparatively. https://www.espn.com/nfl/team/stats/_/name/buf/buffalo-bills Not even the Dolphins would have bingo-carded Shakir leading the team in receptions...or Hollins. They have solid/capable TEs, but no great running back (Chase Brown has been a godsend for Cincy) and Cooper and Coleman are nowhere close to Chase and Higgins.

This was the result BEFORE the 2024 (White Sox and 13 other teams, including the Padres Giants Cubs Red Sox and Cardinals, receiving 0 votes) season. 1. Dodgers, 284 votes 2. Rays, 258 votes 3. Braves, 130 votes 4. Guardians, 101 votes 5. Orioles, 91 votes 6. Brewers, 52 votes 7. DBacks, 43 votes 8/9. Rangers and Twins, 20 votes 10. Yankees, 19 votes 11. Phillies, 10 votes 12. Mariners, 6 votes 13. Astros, 5 votes 14. Tigers, 4 votes 15/16. Mets and Reds (interesting, would have thought Stearns had built up more fans but 2023 was a Mets' disaster/mine field) https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5424700/2024/04/24/mlb-front-office-rankings/

Roki Sasaki Free Agency - Dodgers vs Blue Jays for Roki's heart
Shares same agent with Darvish. Personal hero/role model for Sasaski in Darvish. One would think this is the one place where an exception would be made to the rule of sending players/recruiters...but obviously they can pick up the phone or video call any time they want. It's more about he must feel uncomfortable being pressed or recruited in another language...maybe it's something innocuous like that (about not sending players to LA to woo him).

CHSN to be available on antenna in Chicago
Former Sox CFer NW coach or the LHP? Well Anderson was entitled/lazy for pretty much his entire baseball career since AZ so this can't come as much of a surprise. At least he makes Gordon Beckham come off as more of a pro?

That won't stop the Sox. I'd almost rather see him than vets but it's whatever.

He gets compared to Stroud a lot...but he just doesn't have that super wow how did he do that? escapability of Milroe and anything approaching his father's topline speed on the field. Hunter's presence bailed him out so much...to be fair Colorado had so many receiver injuries the last two years as well, and inconsistent RB play or trailing for much of 2023 to relieve the DL pressure. Feels like he was getting sacked more often than even Burrow and Williams.

Completely forgot JJ McCarthy with this year's class as well. And Richardson has felt more like a rookie because of how raw he was coming out of UF. For whatever reason, still feel that Ward ends up the highest pick in 2025, but not totally enamored with a single guy this year. Beck and Ewers were both there at the start of year and have fallen precipitously. Milroe's such a wild card. Gabriel ends up a backup somewhere perhaps on movie alone. Dart or Nussmaier? it's a mess. Fascinatingly, Jeanty has been anywhere from #4 to the Chiefs on boards. Really a number of solid RB's to choose from this year. Will go with Kaleb Johnson over almost anyone because of his size/speed combo.

White Sox Projected Rotations
No matter how you slice it...two studs and MAYBE MAYBE Taylor leaves very little margin for error as the top three of a future playoff rotation.
