  1. Running the lowest payroll in baseball...or right there with the Marlins, some will perceive that as not trying. Or being the third largest media market in the US but getting wildly outspent by the A's this offseason, the only other team not to sign a $100+ million contract..behind even the spendthrift Pirates. Ray Knight on the Reds' broadcast just made a joke that only the Dodgers provided pitch speeds in stadium because the Sox are such a low budget operation.
  2. Seems they deliberately tried to create the most boring possible lineup today.
  3. Look at the Sox history of second round picks. Better if they just allocated the money improving infrastructure and operations.
  4. Brian Simmons...crossed with Dustin Ackley.
  5. Shane Smith should be pitching in the next couple of days...they have Leasure and Mason Adams starting these next two. Unless they're pitching him with Schultz Hagen Taylor on Sunday in the Spring Breakout game. You'd think they would prefer he goes 3-4 innings on his regular turn...which would be Thursday.
  6. https://fromthe108.com/2025/03/11/the-5-five-things-you-should-know-about-shane-smith-white-sox-pitcher/ as well as his sisters (interesting picture choice by the editor)

  8. https://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/44193839/mlb-2025-rate-losing-top-starting-pitchers-injuries-research-study-10-takeaways "This recent spate of injuries to high-profile pitchers has brought renewed attention to pitcher health," the report stated. "But these events are unfortunately just a continuation of a long-term trend. In fact, injuries sustained by pitchers in professional and amateur baseball have increased substantially over the past several decades." Indeed, the report identified 104 major and minor league pitchers who underwent UCL surgeries in 2010; in 2024, the total had soared to 281 (including 41 major leagues.
  9. "He was great with the routine play." Yes but a Major league SS has to make a lot of plays that are not routine....plays in the hole or up the middle, tough throws etc. You can try to turn this into another tit-for-tat with me, but the fact is that major league scouts (for over a year) have questioned whether Montgomery will stick as a ML SS because of his size and how that impacts the kind of coordination and quickness required at that position. it's a little weak to cite "major league scouts" or Keith Law or whatever...industry sources...what were their own INTERNAL assessments? Those should be/should have been more important, since they're watching him every single day (coaching staff as well, obviously) in BIRM/Charlotte as well as the AFL (where he mostly played 3B, right?). Apparently, a lot of Sox scouts have been cut/down sized over the last couple of years. Fwiw Corey Seager's pretty much the exact same size...look at his defensive numbers the last 3-4 years, they're much better than when he was a younger player.
  10. Benny the Jet Rodriguez...? Maybe they can get Kim (for SS) and Hope/dePaula from the Dodgers in some alternative universe where all their CFers tank and Luis Robert makes the AL All-Star team.
  11. https://www.nfl.com/stats/player-stats/category/punts/2024/reg/all/puntingnetaverage/desc Taylor was awesome, bordering on incredible at Iowa...he had his own t-shirts, people came to games just to watch him kick because the offense frequently was so bad under Ferentz's son, but he had a relatively disappointing rookie year in the NFL. Not even in the top half in terms of net punting numbers. https://www.nfl.com/stats/player-stats/category/punts/2024/reg/all/puntingnetaverage/desc
  12. He had that one crazy outlier of a season with around a 6 fWAR...and nothing else resembling it during his entire career.
  13. Dave Roberts on what American fans can learn from Japanese fans In speaking with MLB.com, Roberts stated: “I really hope the people in the States learn from the people in Japan, how they treat people…” “In Japan, there’s just a lot of respect, and people are kind. And for us to go over there into their country, I’m very honored. Very honored.” Dodgers infielder Max Muncy echoed his manager’s thoughts, adding recently, “The Japanese culture as a whole, it’s so different from how we are over here that I’m really looking forward to just seeing everything.” “This is one of the most exciting Opening Days I’ve ever had — from a player to a coach to a manager — opening up the season in Tokyo,” Roberts said. “My aunts, my uncles, my cousins are all gonna be able to see. I love the country of Japan. And obviously, with the three Japanese players that we have, just to see how we are received, I’m very excited about.”
  14. They have Pages, Outman and k*** Rodriguez that can all play CF. It's not a crisis, it's just that it's NOT an All-Star/MVP caliber player at every position, lol. Hardly requires a desperation trade for Robert. The White Sox are inarguably more interested in dumping the salary than they are in their prospect return, that's how they have almost always operated under JR. Otherwise, we'd be "buying" a prospect or two from the Mets to take back Starling Marte's contract. Likewise, Steve Cohen won't give away too much, knowing the value of a top prospect is worth a lot more than $15 million FV. It works BOTH ways here. Need two willing parties to strike a deal.
  15. It took them until this spring training to figure that out (SS is not his best spot long-term) when we've been discussing it for months?
  16. Well, Glendale is now officially a ghost town with the Dodgers departing for Tokyo...at least the remaining Sox-focused media will have all the room in the world to operate. So there's that.
  17. Travis Jankowski MLB Career 1507 212 355 11 96 102 .236 .624
  18. .685 career OPS Last year dipped to .640.
  19. Are we talking about Jankowski? Another version of Pillar. At least he provides defensive vetsatility and insurance if Taylor totally bottoms out.
  20. Cease at least had healthy/durable/200 ip in his back pocket.
  21. Don't forget Max Stassi...never forget.
  22. Sheets powering up -- and buying in -- with Padres Lefty slugger homers twice vs. former club, including walk-off smash Sheets had played for La Russa with the White Sox during his two best seasons as a big leaguer in 2021 and ‘22. In speaking with Shildt, La Russa mentioned Chicago’s AL Central title run in ‘21 and the crucial role Sheets played. “He said: ‘You can win with this guy,’” Shildt recalled. “That’s all I needed to know from a guy that’s won the second-most games of anyone to ever manage. That was enough to sign off on it for me.” “The exciting thing about getting into a new organization is you get new thoughts,” Sheets said. “Getting to work with the guys here, they’ve been awesome. They’ve had a game plan for me, with what they’ve seen over the past, that they think can take me to the next level and be an impact player. I’m just buying in.” He came off the bench and pounded out two homers and a line-drive single. All three left his bat at 106 mph or harder. What, specifically, has Sheets altered this spring? “I’m just getting into a better launch position, being more athletic with my swing and body and trying to get my body in a position to get my A-swing off on every swing,” Sheets said. “That’s obviously what I’ve been able to do the last couple games. I’m excited about the changes.” AJ Cassavell mlb.com https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/2025/03/11/gavin-sheets-has-rediscovered-his-stroke-in-time-to-make-a-run-at-padres-roster/&ved=2ahUKEwjaup_T5oWMAxXDke4BHU0eDmwQvOMEKAB6BAgYEAE&usg=AOvVaw1sTwzVCUrmLN3Tr05lEDiS
  23. Zyhir Hope and Josue de Paula would be the two asks...and maybe Freeland, SS...so one of those two outfielders, but they're not THAT desperate to give up two Top 10 guys. Not yet. Fallback would be Kellon Lindsay, another SS recently drafted.
