  1. Didn't they say that about certain politicians in recent years...? Wasn't exactly a compliment, though.
  2. Nobody wanted the Sox "trash"...well, whatever our system ranking, high teens/low 20's, there's not much excitement after the Top 3-5, and not much at all about our 2023 first rounder.
  3. We can get the Korean hurler we traded $1 million of intl. signing pool bonus money for the Dodgers to sign since we had no connection to him. Yay!!!
  4. Except they no longer have even the draft positioning excuse behind them...
  5. Unless "success" is defined as finishing behind the Yankees in the AL from 1950-1967. Or the 1917-1919 teams.
  6. Well, you're assuming now...Hobson/Lucas already have 40%. They can easily afford the additional $1.2 billion or whatever it's going to take...at one point the franchise was listed at around $2.0-2.1 billion, but you'd have to think after the last two years and with the unsettled ballpark future, it would be closer to $1.8-1.85 for an asking price. Obviously those optimists about MLB are going to expect $2.3-2.5 million, at the very least.
  7. Yankees Mets Red Sox Padres Dodgers (postseason) Blue Jays....Cubs and Cards to a lesser extent. Numerous disasters (other than the Texas exception) around the majors.
  8. Why would any team want Merrifield starting in RF at this point in his career? He's not even a very good flip candidate. It's not like he was a key piece on their WS teams...he was a next generation player for KC, so called bridge to nowhere.
  9. Would honestly rather watch Dayan Viciedo with Beckham broadcasting his games...memories of that 2008 or 2009 Birmingham team.
  10. And Rodon's $3 million take it or leave it season was all they created out of those high picks, basically. So now drafting #5 and likely #11-12-13. No quick fix solutions...although the #5 will be expected to provide it as a collegiate player, it's almost written in stone now.
  11. Have you looked at the state of Alibaba/BABA stock?
  12. Had to fall below 1.2 and 800k thresholds...
  13. The Gonzalez pick has been about as disappointing as picking 5th and then again in the 11-12 range. That's hard for any fanbase to get behind waiting for...compared to the 2018-19 era of Sox prospects.
  14. ESPN gave Fedde move a B- "But ... how is this possible? How can a pitcher pitch himself out of the major leagues and, just one year later, land a $15 million commitment? (What kind of magic is Boras actually practicing?) Clearly Fedde changed some things. The KBO isn't quite MLB caliber, but it's awfully good and you don't just go over and dominate it simply because you were a big leaguer. In a profile in the Washington Post, Fedde cited a full makeover -- better health (he'd had shoulder trouble), better pitch design, the whole works. The results speak for themselves. Also, the performance of players from overseas is better measured than ever before, cutting down on the uncertainty that surrounds standouts who, in the States, only the most ardent have every heard about. If the performance tracking metrics are there, then teams are willing to dive head first into the deep end of the pool. And that's what the White Sox did on Tuesday, with a pitcher who, over the course of less than a calendar year, has left his long, unsightly big league performance record in the dust. It kind of makes you wonder why teams just don't hire away the pitching coaches from overseas, but that's a different topic. The baseline talent is there, even if it had gone long unrealized. Fedde was a first-round pick out of UNLV by Washington back in 2014 and spent multiple years touted as a top-100 prospect, including a No. 52 ranking by Baseball American in 2017. Now, if Fedde can turn his 2023 KBO performance into a similar MLB impact, this deal will be a steal for the White Sox and will score one for those who believe in the idea of the rapid reinvention. And if he's the five-plus ERA guy at heart, well, it's only money." https://africa.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/38833715/2023-24-mlb-offseason-grades-free-agency-trade-analysis
  15. Just the KBO results, repertoire change and boost in confidence. Former first round draft pick of another team should be plenty familiar. 1/25 to 1/50 odds he's the next Merrill Kelly...or Sox version thereof. Going rate for pitching. The anti running backs.
  16. That’s some bullshit push him to hawk concessions…then criticizing him for not being as elegant an eater as Hahn and Boyer? This franchise just cant get out of its own way sometimes. So first we have allegations of his being an “abnormal personality” since he has CF, lol. That’s some judgmental billionaire s%*# straight out of Annie…or It’s A Wonderful Life. Should just be the Chicago Pottersvilles. Why even have White Sox Charities when they can’t tolerate their own staff/personnel?
  17. Right...confusing. Half the paid media can't even get Luis Robert, Jr. correct.
  18. Nick Martinez signed 3 years/$26 million coming back from Japan...fairly similar numbers except for commitment to third season. White Sox definitely seem to be looking at a theoretical 2026-29 contention window, although many or most want be surprised if it's not 2027. Going to be a lot of shuffling of non core pieces to get to those rosters...much more so than 2017-19 White Sox.
  19. And the Japanese phenom at $200-225 million...
  20. Mariners' and Braves' money, more likely.
  21. Just hope Eder doesn't automatically get slotted into Bummer's spot...which essentially is Crochet and Tanner Banks for the moment.
  22. Cardinals always were on the other side of this equation...seemed pretty unfair or arbitrary, whatever the competitive balance parameters were set up. At least some moribund franchises like Cincy and AZ woke up last year, but it's hard NOT to fault Baltimore for NOT spending unless they actually feel pressured to do so for some external reason. Elias is a smart dude, it doesn't take a Yale degree to appreciate their upcoming financial situation/projected future constraints. I mean, all they have to do is look at where the Padres find themselves (minus Seidler and their RSN deal that overpaid them) for all of the negatives of the "go for it now" approach. SD has actually fought to get back to 9th in the MiLB rankings, but it's going to take another series of big minor league trades to put themselves in a competitive position at the big league level since they can't spend hundreds of millions THIS TIME to fix their starting rotation depth issues. Was all that worth two playoff appearances and one NLCS in a four year timespan? They broke all kinds of attendance records and still need to cut to below $200 million.
  23. Sox have had zero or 1 scout (at most) there for most of the last decade...JR probably has a moral issue with posting fees or paying exorbitant rates for "unproven" players at the major league level. Ofc, he doesn't mind the "below market value" deals for Cubans like Jose Abreu, Alexei Ramirez and Luis Robert.
