  1. im 42 now...and the saying that saying "those that can , do and those that cant , teach" is apply aplied here..i'll be coaching middle school this year providing my son decides to play...he's debating between baseball and going to football camp...i only afford one
  2. the dream team had nothing to do with that imo...the reason the dream team was formed was because basketball became so popular all over the world our college players could no longer bring home the gold..and in typical win at all cost fashion our olympic committee decides winning is more important than keeping the ideals of what the olympics are suppose to be about... magic , larry and michael made basketball the sport it is world wide today..and thats proved by the fact that now that all three are retired the NBA's popularity has gone in the toliet...
  3. well , colorado did lose its top lineman prospect becasue he was worried about the coaching staff being fired..so he went to oregon state instead.. what happens if one of these kids end up with AIDS from one of these sex parties??...imagine the lawsuit there
  4. i havent given up on danny either...but i dont know where he fits into the sox plans this year.. i wouldnt mind him starting the season as the long man and if he pitches well then later in the season move him into the 5th spot if we are still looking to fill it...i think its real important for danny to have some success to build on this year
  5. thats part of it..plus there is so much negativity surrounding the team right now and so many people are saying garland is the key to the season...and he really is...we have no established 4 or 5 starter so the pressure will really be on the top 3 guys to perform...im confident buehrle and loiaza will step up..i think garland is still a few years away before he is ready to handle that kind of pressure remember he went right to the minors (unlike buehrle) and was only 20 when he got the call...so he is still learning to pitch in the majors...look at what happened to kip wells after he got rushed and he came from a college background...i just think its unfair to make this garland's make or break year...even if he takes a step backwards and struggles this year i hope we dont give up on him

  7. cutting payroll and raising ticket prices...does anyone else think managementlooks at us fans like this:
  8. be funny if bill gates was caught speeding there
  9. ill never forget that freakin pop up jimenez dropped in the first inning with the bases loaded and two outs against oakland...the look on buehrle's face..it was like someone just shot his favorite hunting dog...what a nightmare jimenez was as for garland .. i think he will take a step backwards this year but ultimately i think he will develop into a pretty decent pitcher..if im right , lets just hope we dont give up on him just yet..but i think he really needs to hit rock bottom before he will achieve any real success..its all come too easy for him
  10. get there quick guys..i hear they are planning to sell out those single game tickets the first day!!!!...better hurry or you'll get stuck in the upper deck (sorry cw )
  11. ive coached youth sports for awhile now..football , basebal and soccer...on any given weekend there are millions of parents on sidlelines of there kids games being supportive..volunteering their time and money because this is something that important to their kids...but the one guy loses his temper and all of a sudden we have an epidemic of unruly parents... this is one isolated incident..if you look at the situation its between two small towns in PA that are rivals...in small towns across america there are these kinds of rivalries everywhere..these are guy that grow up playing against each other and hating each other their whole lives...it wouldnt surprise me to find out if these two guys had some kind of history to could date back as far as one of these guys little league careers...thats how it is in small towns...those rivalries are a major part of the towns' identies...been that way since sports were first invented.. like ive said ive coached for years..ive had some problems along the way ..you coach long enough and you'll always run into a jerk or two..but for the most part ive believe that parents who get their kids involved in sports and take maore than a passing interest are parents who are guiding and helping their kids reach and achieve dreams that many of us never had a shot at..you cant fault a parent for that... also..as a coach ive have been involved in 2 games , one baseball and one football , where there was absolutely no doubt we were getting cheated by the refs...we also had a football game where we were at home and i felt we were on the receiving end of hometown calls...in most sports programs that are not in-house the home team is responsible for hiring the officials...so many officials feel if they make close calls against the home team they might not get called back...and this is a good chunk of change we are talking about...in our football league we pay 37 bucks a game for officials (we use ISHA officials) there can be up to 8 games on any given staturday...8 times 37 = enough money to make sure you dont piss off the hand that feeds you...leads to a bunch of home town officiating which in turn leads tp parents losing it...no parent wants to see their kid purposley cheated...its almost an instinctual reation from oparents when this happens.. there is alot more going on here than just a parent losing it and attacking someone...not that i would ever condone any type of physical alltercations but if you see some of the stuff that goes on during youth sports you would understand how things could get out of control..but despite all that again the vast majority of parents conduct themselves properly..
  12. tyson still has about 5 grand more than i do
  13. well..notre dame started a true freshman at QB this year..that tells me that the first recruiting class of their current coach was better than the last 4 well 5 considering ND redshirts just about everyone)...so they must be going in the right direction.. you start a true freshman at QB, everyone at that point has to understand its a move for the future... what's really funny is one of the reason ND football is struggling is because they are an independant...moving to a conference would make recruiting much easier...players today want to play in that conference championship game..the exposure in those games are a huge plus in recruiting...its also a plus for positioning yourself for the national championship..ND , being an independant , doesnt have that opportunity...which is why the AD probably wants to investigate joining a conference...to help the program get back on track..and the people who are b****ing the most about ND football also want to remain independant..amking it that much harder for their wishes to come true
  14. since the olympics went pro its kinda lost alot of luster...back i nthe day there was always something special about our athletes being behind the 8 ball as far not be professionals but still real olympic athletes , imo , are the ones who sacrifice for their sport...they do it year round every year even when the cameras arnt on and at personal expenxe to both them and their families... NBA or NHL players who make millions and then about a month or so before they olympics get toghether for a few practices to go over international rules just kind of misses the spirit of the what the plympics are suppose to be about...so if an owner doesnt want his multi million dollar investment being risked for an event that really has lost all of its meaning and purpose , well i cant really blame him..
  15. i think thats his point...the 5th spot will be held down by a bunch of here today gone tommorow types...we are gonna whore the position out
  16. buehrle 15 loaiza 15 garland 11 4th spot 8 5th spot 7 bullpen 19 total 75 we really need a 4th and 5th starter or we will implode this year
  17. once again i miss the entire point you are trying to make??? this is what you posted: 2) "Ritchie is a classic power pitcher with a 93-94 MPH fastball and a hard slider" - ESPN profile. Ritchie can most certainly get it up to the mid-90's, however, he has the same problem that Navarro had. He throws hard and harder without a consistant breaking ball. That allows hitters to gear up for one speed. you take a quote from espn's profile on ritchie about him being a power pitcher...then you add your own take on it about why that style is ineffective...which btw i agree with you on...then in your next sentence , IN THE SAME PARAGRAPH ,you say this.. "The fact is that there are remarkable similarities between Ritchie and Perez that you choose to ignore(a golden rule - learn from past mistakes to help prevent similar future outcomes) and your only counter arguement is that Perez has more potential/talent, which is completely subjective and certainly debatable." how else am, i supposed to take that???....you point out everything thats wrong with rithcie and then say its remarkable similiar to perez all in the same paragraph....that might not be what you wanted to say but thats the point you made imo...
  18. while clapton might not have the range , he has a certain umm..i dont even know how to explain it...but its there and its seperates him from quite a few pretenders...
  19. you're comparision of ritchie and perez is imo just flat out wrong...im not sure where you got your info on what perez throws but he is not just a power pitcher...ive seen him pitch a lot and he has a good change and he takes alot of his curve ball....todd ritchie would be the last guy id compare him too... perez k numbers are better and his walk totals are lower that ritchie's.. a successful pitcher that todd ritchie reminds me of would be rick sutcliffe...sutlcliffe had much better command of his pitches..and wasone tough sob that willed his way through games...
  20. I talked to twop dodger fans on the MLB boards and both said the problems with perez were way overblown....they said he get in trouble with the press because he tends to give honest responses instead the generic "crash davis" one liners.. an example they gave was in one interview he was asked aboyt the offense and he said they needed to start producing more (at the time they were dead last in the NL in runs scored)..paul loduca answered that response in the paper the next day and it had the LA papers treating perez like he was gary sheffield.. this one guy said he was at a game and was sitting right by the bullpen...a few of the yelled out to the dodgers players and they would just wave back..but perez, who of course wanst scheduled that day walked over and started talking to this guy and a few around there...he said he chatted with him for about 2 or 3 innings..talked about pitching, setting up hitters and stuff like that.. both guys said perez has a temper..when he pitches bad he will knock over a water cooler and throw some bats ect...evidently the guy hates to lose.. after hearing what these fans said i feel a lot more confident if we traded konerko for perez (with whatever the rest of the trade was) so i guess frank thomas and chicago arnt the only players/towns with perception problems
  21. your rankings look pretty solid..except id drop the sox to about 19 or 20...
  22. good post greg i agree maggs is doing what any of us would do in the same situation
  23. the reason griffey hasnt had a good season is because of injuries...even last year he hit 13 homers in 166 at bats...over a full season that comes to 45 homers or so...' the question isnt his talent..i believe he still has the same ability he had 5 years ago...its can he stay healthy

    Recipes

on the food..i think it was fanof14 who seems to be the resident chef here..she had some good recipes for chicken and broccoli cooked with garlic that looked like it might work..seemed pretty easy to make...add some steamed rice and maybe some mixed veggies and you got a nice little meal...hopefully she'll answer this thread as for the wine i have you covered....with chicken or fish you wanna go white wine..basic rule of thumb is white meat = white wine, red meat = red wine.. the best white wine comes from germany hands down..and the good thing is its easy to find and relatively inexpensive...about10 -20 bucks a bottle for good high quality wine...there is basically 3 types of german wine 1. reisling...the least expensive...probably 10-15 a bottle (prices might have gone up a little - i havent bought wine at all this season)...its a dry wine..not to my taste but alot of people like it 2. spatlese...this is a sweet wine (which means the grapes were picked later in the season..the longer they stay on the vine..the more sugar they produce)..a little more expensive than reisling...probably 12-20 a bottle. 3. eis...now if you have the bucks this is the way to go..eis mean ice in german..meaning the grapes stay on the vine until the first frost...only about 10% of the grapes survive this process and thats why its so expensive...but it is by far the best wine you will ever taste..ive only had one bottle of eis wine..i couldnt believe how good it was....the cheapest ive ever seen eis wine was 40 bucks for a half of bottle ( they sell them in half bottle sizes cause of the price)..which is the one i bought ..ive seen them as high as 750 bucks a bottle.. whatever type you choose...make sure you this phrase on the bottle "qualitat mit pradikat"...means quality with honors...the highest rating the german wine industry can give a wine...if its got that youre assured a good wine..also the best region of germany to get wine year in and year our in rhineland...but really anywhere in germany you find a good wine.. if you are looking for domestic wine someone else will have to help you there..im not up on american wines hope that helps
