  1. to an extent thats exactly how they are running the team..even accounting..they set up the '00 payroll to break even..but won the division and better attendance than expected..so the next year they increaded payroll by 33 million...which was probably the profit margin for '00...the last 2 years attendance was below expectations so they cut the payroll a little.. but thats going on a year to year basis..what they are not figuring into the equation is the increase in net worth over the 20 somes years they owned the team...if they bought it for like 30 million and its now worth 300 million , then they should be willing to run in the 10 -15 million in the red each year...it would then truly be "even accounting"... because when they sell the team they would get back all those millions they went over each year..breaking even.. sad thing is if they actually practiced even accounting the extra 10-15 a season over the years probably would have got us a championship sometime in his tenure
  2. probably gonna be harris...unless he flops in ST
  3. id love to see harris make it big...but im pretty skeptical of both willie and olivo at this time...but if they both produce it should be enough to carry us over the top of a very weak division
  4. i figure us for about 75 wins..though thats not a strong opinion...there are so many variables this year...from a new manager and coaching staff to a bunch of guys up the middle that still havent proved anything about how they will play everyday...and a pitching staff thats full of question marks too.. we could win 100..we could loss 100..nothing would surprise me... one thing id add..this team as constructed will never be a consistant playoff team like oakland is now or cleveland was in the mid to late 90's..any given year they can win the division if things go right...but to have everything go right year after year just wont happen
  5. clock management is a lost art in football...i just cant believe how many times i see teams do that...and its such an easy thing to do...just wait to call the time out...how can coaches who spends so much time preparing for games that they actually have to move a bed in their office to sleep there keep missing this part of the game during preperations???...especially when clock management is probably more important than any other aspect of the game
  6. its pretty obvious that there is no respect between frank and kenny...so its probably better they dont talk.. any correspondance that kenny has to get to frank can be delivered through his agent....if kenny really needed to get a hold of frank he could do it that way...he probably should do it that way..be better for all involved
  7. what scares me most about harris....he couldnt beat out that bum jiminez...
  8. i worried about about cancer too...it easy for someone else to tell you not to worry when they dont have to go through it...you wouldnt be human if you didnt worry.. soxfan 420 brought up a point i forgot...when you wake up your throat will be extremely soar...its actually more irritated than soar...lasts about a day...if the hospital is letting you go home the same day make sure your girlfriend or someone is around to watch you for about 24 hours..the effects of anastetics can come and go..you can think you are fine and then all of a sudden start to feel real dizzy...you need a good 24 hours to recover...eventhough they might tell you that you can go back to work..
  9. the fact that hawk has to go back to bonilla and in his mind , radinsky (probably mixing him up with someone else) really disproves what he was trying to say...that rule 5 picks are few and far between... but 50k for a chance to find a diamond in the rough is equivelent to you and me spending 5 bucks on lottery tickets..itsvery little risk with a small chance of a big payoff...so why not...a franchise like ours should probably be more active in rule 5 players
  10. well , everything here is just our opinions , or gut feelings..all we can hope for is come ST..none of this is even an issue anymore... ill give kenny this much..atleast its not boring around here
  11. no problem...good luck... thats funny because i remember the first i had a scope they found h pylori in my stomach too (atleast i think that what it was - it was some kind of bacteria)...but they said it wasnt 'active' at that time and didnt think it was a big deal..maybe i should have them revisit that issue if you are saying they now think it might cause problems later down the line
  12. ive watched that show a few times...it is funny..but this guy tany habeeb or whatever his name is that has the mic is a real tool...he's worse than jerry springer.. he has a new show that i saw last night for the first time...an eye for an eye.. its a court show and this one is really out there..last night the show was about 2 people in car crash...the judge , named "extreme akeem" has to decide who was at fault because both drives ay the other ran a red light...so he decides the one guy is guilty on practically no evidence at all and his decision?? they hire a stunt driver and he is going to take the guilty guys car and flip it over on a stunt to match the damage that happened to guy's car who was innocent (thus the name , an eye for an eye)so the stunt guy does his thing...srives over the side of a ramp flips this guys car and leaves it upside down in some supermarket parking lot that they cleared out for this show...then they have a local cop write the guy a ticket for illegally parking his car ...i definately lost a few more brain cells than i normally do watching tv after that show
  13. i have to have an endoscopy every 2 years...thats where they scope my stomach and esophogus and take tissue from both looking for cancer cells because about 5 years ago i develop esophogitis from acid reflux desease and now im more predesposed to getting cancer there because of the damage id di to the cells of the esophogus.. is that what your talking about..scoping our stomach??? pretty simple proceedure..you get put under , they take a camera on the end of a long flexible tube ,along with a pair of scissors designed for this proceedure, and run it down your stomach then watch the pitcures on a TV...then they cut a small piece from different parts of your stomach and esophogus and then a lab checks for cancer cells...or if they find a tumor or something out of the ordinary they wil take pieces from that too... the risk is the as in any surgery with anastesia (sp?)...very small one..the risk during the proceedure is that the surgeon could cut your esophogus with the scissors and that would have to be fixed by either repairs using the scope or if the cut hits an artery where there is a lot of bleeding they might have to cut you open to stop it...again thats very rare if you checked your surgeon out and feel that he/she is compentant then the risk is very small...
  14. watching the game when delhomme comopleted the pass to the 15 with 1:45 left and used a time out immediately i said "HUGE MISTAKE"...they should haveran 40 seconfs off the clock before calling that time out..because even if they score now they will leave brady just enought time to beat them.. they did and he did.. you just knew brady was gonna lead the pats down the field and win that game...it was a given.. you only get that feeling when you are watching greatness..tom brady , well on his way to joe montana status
  15. we saw the true kenny williams friday night at soxfest..and if i was a player and he had a history of treating me the way he was treating fans friday night id never return his calls either... with the ego's of both thomas and williams nothing good would ever come out of a phone call between the two...imo it would be better if any correspondence between the two went through thomas' agent
  16. and you may be right...but the bottom line , for me anyways , is he is doing exactly what the white sox should be doing based on the payroll situation.. i really started to watch billy bean after the giambi - mabry trade..when that trade was made i thought he was nuts...lost his mind...then mabry shows up in oakland , a lifetime journeyman , and it seemed like everytime i turned on SC there is mabry getting a game winning hit. maybe bean is just lucky..but you know the saying "rather be lucky than good"
  17. im a billy bean fan...my definition of sucess is multiply trips to the playoffs..my thinking is if you go enough eventually you'll win one..and inbetween being in the race every year helps stabilize the franchise.. billy bean , on a payroll less than the white sox , continues to find ways to keep the A's in the playoffs...
  18. wow..interesting..i missed the halftime so thanks for the updates
  19. you have to weight this system this guy uses to draft stratagies..i mean if a team spends a majority of their first 10 picks on pitchers forthree straight seasons and another team spends the majority of its first 10 picks on hitters , and both teams have developed two pitchers that are top quality , they both would be equal...but really the team that went for hitters did a better job... if you want to use this guys pitching stats then our farm system would rate in the cellar overall...because we were in the middle in developing pitching prospects but we have only developed one everyday ballplayer in 4 years now (crede)...before that over a 4 year period , maggs , lee , konerko (i guess we get credit for him) , cameron , singleton now if harris , rowand and olivo develop that will equal things out but right now over the last 4 years i think its pretty obvious the farm system hasnt really delivered on that number 1 rating from 00-01.. these things probably run in cycles but i really find it hard to believe that anyone , fan or sox management , could say they really feel the farm system has been anything but disappointing the last few years... im sure ill be labled negative again but cmon..this farm system right now is not producing.. ps..a real SS prospect more than once every 20 years would be nice too wouldnt you agree???
  20. joe admitted in an interview in one of the new yourk papers in the early 20's that he threw the series...he talked about the plan was since striking out on purpose would be too obvious they would have to do it on defense...said that he would purposely take bad angles on fly balls to just miss them and when he trew the ball into the infield it was off line so the runner could move up... i dont know why that article isnt more popular ..i wish i bookmarked it at the time...it also talked about jackson's lawsuit against comiskey...in that lawsuit (1923 i believe) those confessions mysteriously found their way into court forcing jackson to drop his suit and eventually he was able to get comiskey to settle out of court this impression that jackson was dumb is totally false imo...he was a very sucessful businessman after his playing days...just because he was never taught to read doesnt mean he was stupid..a lot of poor southerners back then didnt get formal education...evidence says jackson was guilty as sin..regaurdless of what "8 men out" says.. if one deserves reinstatement its buck weaver...but he is the only one... my favorites harold baines carlton fisk jorge orta jose valentin mark buehrle
  21. rex...this is so flawed..i actually tried to type a response about all the variables that were left out and i was half way to looking like i was rewriting war and peace the criteria is too narrow , doesnt take into account draft stratagies , front office stratagies, the condition of the parent team in each year of the draft (if they have a solid young 5 man rotation they wont draft starting pitching prospects early on as opposed to a team with a team era of over 5)...there all kinds of things i can get into... i just dont think you can take one section of a farm system and evaluate it and say this team is the best...or just for certain years because if the parent club is a contender they will be giving up 3 prospects for a veteran to help them win..while a team out of the race has a fire sale and picks up a bunch of prospects look at cleveland..they are loaded with young pitching..but most of those guys were double A prospects from 2 years ago from other teams when they dumped payroll...in 2 years they might have develop 5 starting pitchers under this guys criteria..but do they deserve that credit?? youre gonna have to give me some time to figure out how to do this as accurate as possible.. im thinking something along the lines of giving bonus points for developing a mark buehrle because he was a 38th round pick so we got him late and saw something special in him that no one else did and developed it...while a number 1 pick that pans out wouldnt get as many points...but we get bigtime minus points for trading away a number 1 draft pick (kipper) who struggled here but immediately starts living up to his potential after he gets traded...to me thats a big warning sign that maybe we arnt doing enough things right.. geez , i rewote this and its still long...but this sounds like fun so ill gvie it a shot..
  22. buehrle was a 38th round draft pick or something like that...that says to me not many teams believed in him..us included since we pasted on him 37 times...so he obviously knows better than anyone what it takes for him to play at his maximum potential...so if he thought sitting on the couch all winter eating bons-bons and watching oprah all day makes him a better pitcher..go for it...
