  1. I'm happy for the fans of Charlotte, who had to endure infinite suckage last year with crappy retread pitchers, plus the mysteriously crappy EJohnson. Must be nice for them to see the CMWang's of the world in the other dugout.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 06:16 PM) I do think when Jesse is ready, they try and sneak Drabek to Charlotte. He is the only one that makes sense. Petricka will be up as soon as tomorrow, perhaps. I thought he'd be the one replacing Drabek.
  3. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 06:11 PM) May and Hawkins responding nicely to rough first weeks. Anderson has been good from game one. Engel and Alvarez too.
  4. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 06:32 PM) Wow, Erik Johnson touched 95 today and worked around 92-94. It would be huge to get the 2013 Erik Johnson back Man, that's great to hear.
  5. May and Hawkins responding nicely to rough first weeks. Anderson has been good from game one.
  6. A relatively important game for the seasonal outlook, given the calendar.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) If they don't, who cares? Yep. We need 7 guys better than that regardless, Crain, Jones, Johnson etc. all with better chances of becoming one of the 7.
  8. Hendricks had the look and feel of a "one time around the league" guy last year. I think that's going to play out.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 12:05 PM) Obviously since he hit a homer, wasn't saying it to be insulting. Just the similarities to Dunn are striking to me: name, lefty DH coming over from Nats, homers a lot, striking out a ton, low average, can't hit lefties, great clubhouse guy Accurate except the K rate is much lower. A key difference.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 11:41 AM) No confidence they learned anything to prevent the same thing from happening again in the future. Bad luck as an excuse doesnt cut it for increasingly frustrated fans of this franchise. And this is the key. Year 4 looks just like year 2 from my seat. There are always going to be new screw-up possibilities that this staff will have to get through, it seems.
  11. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 11:00 AM) Any chance ventura gets fired if they get swept in detroit? That would pretty brutal especially when you specifically line up your top 3 starters for the series. No, none. The last thing this org is is reactionary. And that's good. But any accountability, urgency or preparedness sure would be refreshing. Haven't seen it since 2012. I'm convinced that RV, in aggregate, will cost us between 2-4 games over the course of a 162. And that will be a killer with the miniscule margins we see between making and missing the playoffs in a typical season. We have to be significantly better than Det, KC and Cle for this to work, and if we play sharp, focused ball, we're roughly equivalent talent-wise, imo. Our 1-3 hitters will get it together, sooner rather than later. Ausmus was smart in getting the PR out there quickly to avert a possible late challenge. Just one of a thousand details that I'd bet our guy wouldn't be on top of. These add up.
  12. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 10:20 AM) I know everyone is frustrated with the team and after yesterdays debacle with not challenging everyone is trying to find a scapegoat with robin. If the team was playing well everyone would think the manager is a genius but because the team isn't playing well everyone wants to blame robin. The fact is the team isn't good right now. Robin does deserve some of the blame but it goes from the coaching staff straight down to the players. Shouldn't Vince Coleman deserve blamed for the base running blunders that he was supposed to come in and make the team better on the base paths. Shouldn't Todd Steverson and Harold Baines be blamed for the team not hitting the way they are suppose to. Shouldn't Don Cooper be blamed for the starting rotation not being better then they have been so far. Shouldn't the infield and outfield instructors be blamed for the team having bad defense sofar. Aren't the player more to be blamed when they are the ones on the field everyday playing these games and not playing up to their potential. There is some younger players on the team but there are alot of veteran players that have better track records and aren't producing what they are capable of. The sox have alot of quality talent but its not won on paper but won on the field and they aren't doing that. Clearly everything hasn't come together yet. Hopefully it does soon so we forget the bad and getting back to rooting for a team we all want to win and gives us hope. This is Robin's ship, ostensibly. If the team isn't prepared, is leading the universe in TOOTBLANs, has an incompetent review team etc., - it's in his scope of responsibility to get it right. Yesterday was just another in a long-line of gaffes we've been observing for three years. How many years of OJT will the man need? We're supposed to be competing now. Our clownshoes Mgr. is unlikely up to the task. And yes, a clearout of ALL the coaching staff dead weight will be preferable. Urgency and hunger for winning seems like such foreign concepts to the current staff. We needed to get out of the gate well, and we didn't. Still time to turn it around.

  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 09:53 AM) This is the stuff Beckham needs to stay away from. Shut your mouth, and play when called upon. Well, Flav, we're all a bit weary of reading Beckham positivity spins over the years, whether he's describing the team's or his own performance. Anticipation of this was among the reasons many of us said "ugh" when he was re-acquired. That said, he's got a responsibility to the media like all players, so I'll give him a pass. Perhaps the better reporters will smell the "raw meat" that Lexi provided yesterday, and see an opportunity to get some real insight into the clubhouse.
  15. Hawkins homer after May double and Anderson lineout. Hitting a pretty good pitcher in Berrios - my favorite of the Twins up and coming stud arms.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 04:03 PM) Can't link it from my phone, but Norris' tweets on Adams' velocity are very disappointing. Supposedly struggled to hit 90 in the 3rd. What a revolting development.
  17. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 03:28 PM) They probably do need a new manager.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 03:21 PM) Again, CSN did not show the best feed. Alexei absolutely made that tag. He feels the guy's foot hit his glove and then pulls the ball back to avoid hitting the guy's body, which is actually what you're supposed to do because once you've tagged him you don't want to tag the guy again and wind up dropping the ball while making an unnecessary tag. And again, it moved Lexi's glove, and the Ump was right on top of it. Horrid.
  19. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 03:01 PM) It sucks even harder knowing it didn't have to be this way. They could have easily sold RV's record as poor and justified a new hire. Instead they extended him and from all indications it was for more than just 2015. Yea dude, it sucks. And harder still knowing that the reality of removing someone as beloved by JR and the org as RV, is bound to happen much, much past when it should. I would hope that the payroll boost, ticket sales and overall expectations would create an atypical urgency and accountability in the org, but I fear their historically glacial responses will prevail.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 02:45 PM) To note - based on that replay, Alexei did not make a "terrible effort". He got the guy on the foot, felt the tag, and got out of the way so the ball wouldn't be knocked away. He then held the ball up so that the ump could see he had it. He did not need to reach for the guy's body because he had tagged him on the foot. I mean, you can see how the toe moved Lexi's glove, how in the world does the Ump miss that? I'm tired of the obese and elderly officiating my game. Wasn't in the game thread at the time, but if you remember when Boni booted the DPGB, the Ump screened him from the ball way too late by taking a bad path in getting out of the way of the grounder. I'm just pissed here, clearly, but younger, more athletic Umps could help the game a bit.
  21. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) This team has taken on a passive persona on the field. The opposite of the Royals and Tigers. I will always LIKE Robin, a lot. He may even have a managerial career ahead of him. He's just a terrible fit for a team that hasn't done or won anything.
  22. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 02:10 PM) This really doesn't matter. You can't expect to win when only scoring 1 run.. We have scored 25 runs. 2.77 runs per game No. You're going against an Ace on the road, and games like this will be the norm. You gotta win some of these, even if it takes 11 innings to get to 2.
  23. QUOTE (Sockin @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 01:58 PM) Alexei was furious. He jumped up and yelled immeadiately. It's so awesome when a mgr. has his players' back, and all those other wonderful intangibles Robin brings to the team.

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 03:55 PM) I thought it was one of the best finales in the past decade.mthings tied up. Little sentimental. There was never a lot of personal hatred between Boyd and Raylan and their last moment was fitting. Not sure how I felt abou Ava turning out to be pregnant but the way Raylan protected her was clever. I enjoyed it a lot, but agree, maybe slightly on sentimental side. Miss it already though. "We dug coal together", liked that ending. The show was always about Raylan's dichotomy of Lawman/Killer-with -a-badge and his evolution lead to him leaving Boyd alive, which was fitting. He always knew in his heart that a simple twist of fate might have put him in Boyds shoes. I'll need to get around to reading some E Leonard at some point.
  25. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 16, 2015 -> 04:33 PM) Later round guy that could come into play: Alex Winkelman LHP, Southeast Missouri State Is that Buehrle's Alma mater? Edit: nope, nvm. Jefferson College in Hillsboro, MO.
