    6/7 Games

    Doyle with a no-hitter thru 6.
  2. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 11:21 AM) This might have been true if he were 23 or 24. At his age, he may as well be up in the majors and being serviceable as a 4th outfielder/pinch runner, etc. I don't think any one projects him as any more than that. I'm sure he's not complaining, he's finally arrived. Here's hoping we've seen the last of Fukodome. No doubt. Very happy to be greeted with this news this morning. Looking forward to seeing the kid.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 11:00 AM) Rodriguez has big velocity and good movement, but has struggled with control during his career. He's got a lot of raw talent. Remenowsky doesn't top 90-91 at most, but one of the Sox development people once said he could nail a gnat in the ass on either side of the plate. Can also throw 3 or 4 pitches for strikes consistently. Kloess and Kussmaul, I really know very little about their tools or pitches. Thanks, 72. I'd heard that about Santos, hope he's finally getting there. I'd really like to see Hector getting groomed to be a starter as soon as next season, and I'm wondering, if we wind up keeping Thornton, if it doesn't make sense to get a look at LSeptimo sometime soon (another guy with excellent BAA/K but walks a few too many), since he's been doing well at Charlotte, and let Hector build some innings at AAA. Unless the starting pitching sucks, Hector's role on the big club isn't really significant enough to keep him in the pen, IMO.
  4. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 10:21 AM) Quintana should not be in the bullpen, that's a bulls*** thing to do to his development. I am all for demoting Stewart, Santiago and calling up Bruney and a post-prospect age SP from AAA (can't think of the whole rotation right now). I think both of those kids need to be starting pitchers, I'm willing to bet at least one of them contributes to our MLB roster one day if we let them be starters. I see Hector becoming a legit starter, Stewart, not so much. I agree that we should be grooming Hector to be a possible starter next season.
  5. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 09:55 PM) Skinniest motherf***er I've ever seen. That's hilarious. Any good though? It seems like nearly all the B'Ham relievers have terrific BAA, and very good K rate, but they walk a few too many. SR, DR, BKloess, R Kussmaul all qualify. Anyone of these guys a future big-leaguer? After the Nate Jones experience this year, I want to see anyone with a serious arm get a chance to work with Coop.
  6. Why, exactly did the Yankees give up on a 22 y.o. (now 23) who'd been pretty successful at every stop? His stuff's not spectacular, granted, but still kinda weird. Was it a situation where they couldn't protect him due to roster space?
  7. Don't like the bunt there. Would rather have GB just try to hit it to the right side, maybe get a hit.
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 06:28 PM) somehow, only 1 run scored. I'll take it. Now mow down the next 18 or so.
  9. Alright Philbert, keep us in it!
  10. Cubs are pulling ahead - in being bad.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 02:26 PM) Bah, I meant to highlight the Tsalad nickname. Intentionally weak, and thanks for noticing.

    QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 02:22 PM) No, I'm super optimistic for both, really.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 02:02 PM) Wilkins w/ another hit. 2/4 today. Didn't realize Saladino was such a good basestealer. He stole his 22nd base already, and has only been caught twice. We need TSalad and KWalk to add significantly to their BA's, for them to become significant prospects. I hope they can. Neither is too old at this point, and the speed makes them interesting.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 01:39 PM) Mark Gonzales ‏@MDGonzales Quintana to start Wednesday for White Sox. Danks remains on DL, according to Sox's game notes. The right move. And I want another look at Q, anyway.
  15. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 01:09 PM) When I first glanced at the title, I thought it said Juan Calendar. I was like, "who the hell is Juan Calendar? Is he any good?" Don't be confused, Juan is actually quite a player, and is tearing it up in Kanny, very under the radar, in case you haven't noticed. He's new to the system from our Dominican academy, and it's Calendra, BTW. He has a brother Julio, who KW hopes to sign in a few weeks.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 07:58 AM) I'm not expecting much from this series. Get a win, and sweep Houston and we'll call it a good week. Yeah, fear the decades-long averageness of the Jays! I know they've had our number in recent years, but there's not that much to be frightened of on that squad. We're better.
  17. No word on Dome injury. No confirmation of Q for Weds., yet. What to discuss? How 'bout the Sale timetable? Clearly, our boy can't go 110 pitches+ and not missing starts from now through October, so how do they handle his time off, but knowing that he'll be essential to a pennant drive/postseason? I think they should let him have his next 6 starts, the last of those being Saturday, July 7, if we maintain the 5 man(and I think they will), regardless of off days. At that point, you let him pitch the top of the 1st inning on Tuesday night the 10th in Kansas City, thus fulfilling my prophecy years ahead of schedule, and then shut him down til a return on Monday, August 20th to open a home series against the Yanks. It's a solid 6 weeks off, and allows him 9 starts (if all are needed) until the end of the season. With the slightest of tweaks in mid-September, that schedule would also allow him to pitch in every Tiger/Indian series between late August and the final series in Cleveland in Oct. It should also leave him with ~160 IP. Is that too many?
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 08:59 AM) Just noticed something interesting. The three dominant relievers in Birmingham are Dan Remenowsky, Brandon Kloess and Ryan Kussmaul. They are all NDFA signings - pretty amazing for three undrafted guys to be the three strongest relievers on your AA squad. And the similarities don't end there. They are all striking out about a guy an inning, all walking guys at a similar relatively low rate, all holding batters around .150 AvgA. They are ages 25, 26 and 27. Who sees AAA first? Remenowsky's been to AAA before and didn't do so well, don't know about the others. I still think the most intriguing guy in their pen is Santos Rodriguez, because he's a 6' 5" lefty, and we'll need more lefties sooner after we trade Thornton and/or make Hector a starter. He may finally be figuring it out, and could possibly add to our return from the Javy trade. I'd like to hear JPN's take on the recent SR.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 10:16 AM) Kannapolis- Olacio roughed up http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?s...kanafx_hicafx_1 Gotta believe he's a long term project, but hopefully not super-long. I'll be following this kid closely - I mean, how many 6' 7" 230 lb 18 year old LHP's are there? If he were to blossom someday, oh my. Hope KW hangs onto him.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 05:32 PM) I'd imagine if they didnt want Fukudome on the playoff roster the guy filling it would be Danks. Dome will be long gone before the playoffs, god willing. Hell, I want a look at Jordan soon. It's a long season, and he can back up all three OF, plus he's left-handed - I think he'll get enough AB's.
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 10:56 AM) Garfein tweeted Danks side session went well today, but may need a rehab start. I'm good with that. Quintana on Wednesday, please. Recent article on the corporate site implies that this will be so. Looking forward to it.
  22. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 04:26 PM) No. But it was a great reason to discover that Escobar can play pretty well in the outfield. So when Morel comes back, Kosuke may be the odd man out. Whatever, Dome is a waste of a roster spot for so many reasons. I want him gone, regardless of who replaces him. He's dead to me.
  23. ILMOU

    6/3 games

Morel back in Charlotte lineup, 0 for 1 so far. Guess whatever happened last night was no biggie.
