  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 08:04 PM) Is Kenny giving Ozzie more kids to try to make him quit after this season so that they dont have to fire him? I don't think so, but I like the way you're thinking. If we don't win the division, I wouldn't mind seeing the org make things uncomfortable for Ozzie in every way possible. Getting a useful player from the Marlins for Oz would be KW's second greatest achievement.
  2. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 08:05 PM) I'd rather platoon Rios with Dunn. Against Righties Dunn DH, Q RF. Against Lefties, Rios RF Q DH. Of course I'd rather they either get rid of Rios or just use him as a fourth OFer. These scenarios wouldn't bother me either. It would just be nice to not sell him off at the absolute lowest ebb of his value. Eating ~60% instead of 80%+ of his deal could save significant coin.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 07:53 PM) He lasted as long as aj when the guy in front of him gets a four pitch walk. Good one.
  4. As much as I can't stand Rios, if we don't unload him by Sunday then a platoon with ADA might actually make sense, at least for awhile. Looking at the #'s, ADA is significantly better against righties (927 vs 749 OPS this year), while Rios has always hit lefties better, and even this year is a not-incredibly-awful 657 vs. LHP - 520 vs RHP. He'll only get about 30% of the AB's, and we'll see if that lights a fire under him, since nothing else has.
  5. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 07:23 PM) Something is brewing, restovich was traded to Arizona, I know he's fooder but it keeps on opening spaces I love this time of the season. The anticipation of what will happen between now and Sunday is message board heaven. Just try to stay away, J4L. Betcha can't do it.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 07:19 PM) Frasor was on CTL tonight. Sounds like a genuine fellow. Grew up a Cubs fan, but is excited to be with the Sox, back home, and can't wait to be in his first pennant race. I hope he gets his wish on that last part. Another southsider/south suburbanite who grew up a Cubs fan. Having a teddy bear for your mascot/logo really is sheer genius for reeling in the tots.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 07:00 PM) In his one year with the Sox, Jackson was 11-9 with a 3.66 ERA. Not bad. Gavin Floyd has never had a season with an ERA that low. Neither has John Danks. Jackson was a lot better with the Sox than most realize. Yeah, he could be frustrating with high pitch counts/nibbling, but gave us a quality performance overall. I wish him well, and wouldn't mind seeing him back here again in the future. I believe that late in his career there's a chance he could evolve into a terrific closer.
  8. Very glad to see Tyler K back in Charlotte and leading off. Perhaps they felt they were doing him a disservice having him bat near the bottom of the order in Charlotte after having excelled all year at leadoff in B'Ham. It didn't seem right that they were judging him so harshly on a mere 24 AB's in his Charlotte debut a couple weeks ago - perhaps they weren't. If he does well this time in AAA, he'll be a very interesting guy to watch next ST. September, maybe?
  9. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 05:32 PM) Rios has, what, about $33M remaining on his deal? I would think the Sox would be eating around $20-25M of that, right? With the 2015 buyout, it's closer to $41-42M I believe, including the remainder of this season. I'd guess we'll be coughing up $25M+.
  10. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 05:24 PM) Santos earned a save in both Cleveland games. My bad. It was Monday's game vs. Tigers and last Monday @ KC where Ozzie (probably unknowingly) eliminated Santos' chance for the save, but pitched him anyway.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 04:53 PM) Well lets see... We traded three of our five starting pitchers and got back a boatload of prospects in 1997. In 2011 we had six starters and traded one, along with a bench player for a reliever and a prospect. I can see how those would be similar. But if we were to trade Danks or Floyd in the next few days... what say you then?
  12. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) Maybe I'm wrong but Santos got a save today Yes. Ozzie eliminated the save possibility for Santos in the Friday game at Cleveland and in one of the games at KC.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 03:24 PM) Gamel rakes in the PCL... it's the PCL, but he still rakes. I hate the PCL. So hard to evaluate hitters w/o a significant eye-test.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) ???? It sure seems like he's been very insistent that his "Closer" is going to get the save, even if it's just a 1 out save. Well, he screwed it up twice already in the last week by eliminating the save situation for Santos. Perhaps we should be thankful that Ozzie doesn't know the rules for save eligibility. And perhaps he still wants to keep Sergio in the mindset of finishing games, regardless of situation. I have no issues with Oz's handling of this.
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) We are now ex-Royals free I believe. Oh, Happy Day!!!
  16. I mentioned this the other day, but I'll say it again here. I LOVE the fact that Ozzie is finishing games with the matchups he deems best, instead of being a slave to the ridiculous statistical construct we know as a save. This is the advantage of having an un-established closer. All managers should do this, but don't, because established closers have save incentives all over their contracts.
  17. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 03:05 PM) Also the White Sox are undefeated since Teahen was traded. The long awaited de-Royaling is finally complete, no? Unless I'm forgetting someone.
  18. "One player can't make much of a difference when your offense is this bad." "De Aza (or player ____) is not a savior." He doesn't need to make a huge difference or be a "savior", even a relatively small incremental help could put us over the top in this lousy division. He made the difference between a win and an infuriating 1-0 loss today, didn't he? Get it now, Ozzie?!?
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 02:14 PM) This may be our best run of saying "ozzie is doing something stupid" right before something bad happens since he got the job. Ozzie no habbin goot year
  20. Thought we had some runs when that left Lexi's bat.
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 01:02 PM) Best pitcher since Pud Galvin. Zach's a roider too?
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:20 AM) Thornton, Jackson, and Reed would have been a pretty steap price. Agreed. In 5 weeks time Reed may not even be a prospect, he'll be a full-time major leaguer.
  23. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:31 AM) This trade works as the first step down three potential paths: 1) Sox bet DET today and gain another game over the weekend and now there is $$$ and one more prospect to use to try and add an impact player. 2) Sox lose today and lose another game over the weekend and this trade was a head start in dumping salary. 3) Sox stay in the 3-4 GB range and the Sox hedge their bets by doing nothing other than having shed two salaries from guys they don't need and picking up at least one guy who can help right now. The least attractive option for sure, but then this team has put KW in a horrible spot by playing too poorly to give him the confidence to 'go for it' yet being close enough to first to upset the fans by doing a full-blown salary dump. Excellent post. If #1 were to play out, would we be looking at ARam?
