  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 02:47 PM) I love it when people overreact to a minor league deal signing. I love it when you analyze.
  2. This is the move that sets the brilliant master plan into action.
  3. QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 12:54 PM) It'll be much more fun if they go 8-4 or 9-3, but if I had to guess, i'd say that everyone in the central comes out of the gates and goes about 6-6.. so we have to continue this "will they, won't they" game. And Ozzie will say he still likes his mix, and KW will be afraid of making even the most minor roster or coaching move to avoid upsetting an applecart that needs to be lit on fire, and DV and de Aza will continue to rot in Charlotte until it's too late for them to make a difference. MOST.INFURIATING.SEASON.EVER.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 12:43 PM) I still struggle to believe that could possibly be the *only* reason. Exactly.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 12:35 PM) I really don't think trading Hudson was a statement of the Sox thinking he was bad. I really think they thought they were giving themselves a better chance to win that year. They must have thought his ceiling was pretty low, to also give up Holmberg and given the financial negatives of the trade, JMO.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 09:42 AM) I still say that Hudson would be a member of the Sox if Beckham makes a tough play, but one that could have been made, on a grounder to his left at Oakland. I was down on Hudson at the time cause he was supposed to have an awesome slider, but he never threw one. However, I do know I said I was very impressed at how many swing and misses he got on his change-up. I watched each of his starts with the Sox intently, and when they traded him, I couldn't believe they were passing judgement so quickly on a guy who had made so many leaps forward last season. Still don't understand it.
  7. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 10:47 AM) I don't think the organization views him that highly. I'm still not sold. They only gave him 7 games in Charlotte, which seems kinda weird. Maybe he'll be back up there soon, or maybe not.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 09:16 AM) I think someone in the clubhouse had to really not like his attitude. Did he seem stubborn or uncoachable to the staff, Coop specifically?
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 09:10 AM) I will never understand how the Sox turned on Hudson so quickly last year. IIRC, he made three starts. One of them was dominating, and the other two were poor (mostly cause of control issues). This will always be a head-scratcher for me. Seemed to be a lot of hurriedness/panic involved with that deal.
  10. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 07:45 PM) We already did that when someone decided to put him in the bullpen instead of letting him be a starter in AA or AAA. Well, I like him in the pen THIS year. The possible emergence of Santiago, however, gives us all the lefties we need with MT and WO under contract. Whatever we do with Sale going forward preparation-wise should be with a mind to maximize his innings capability for next year.
  11. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 07:41 PM) Semien is 2/4, 2B. Trayce Thompson hit is 15th HR. Ravelo is 2/4, RBI K. Smith is 3/4, 2B, RBI Semien seems to have taken to pro ball quickly.
  12. Tyler Kuhn back in B'Ham lineup tonite. They didn't give him much of a look in Charlotte - only 7 games. Kind of a raw deal. Do we really need to see more of Gookie D or Andy Garcia?
  13. Sale has been terrific lately. He's even showing a decent change. Why would we limit him at this point?
  14. QUOTE (High Mileage @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 04:08 PM) I just read both Keith Law's and BaseballAmerica's mid-season Top 50 Prospects list, and didn't see a single White Sox player. Is your guys' system really that bare...? Viciedo isn't eligible due to his time spent in the majors last year, but otherwise yes, rather barren. I think they're missing on Addison Reed who probably isn't top 50 cause he's a projected reliever, but looks like a real keeper. Anyone know if Reed has been discussed as a possible conversion to becoming a starter going forward? That sure could help things were it possible.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 02:24 PM) If this team is able to contend, then they need to prove it. We're not in a position to add Jose Reyes to totally remake things for a one-shot run here. We could use another RH arm in the bullpen or some 3b help or a backup C if we're making a run, but really, that's it. We're not benching Rios, we're not benching Dunn, if Viciedo is called up it's because we've thrown the ol towel in. I doesn't have to be this way, but the way the team is (mis)handling it, you may be right.
  16. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 12:12 PM) What does Sale prefer? Starting or relieving? I believe he, like most pitchers, visualizes himself as a starter, as starters make a lot more $ typically. I hope like hell he he has it in him to be a starter for one key reason. Clearly, we've had several quality starting pitchers over our recent history, as confirmed by the quality start stats, but no true ace since the decline of Contreras. Thus, the motivation behind the failed Peavy and Jackson trades. The idea is sound: pair one true ace with a group of high quality pitchers like MB, Danks, Humber, Floyd, etc. and you'll have a helluva staff. More than any of the guys on our staff, or anyone who we're likely to acquire, Sale has the best chance, IMO, to become that ace.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 08:48 AM) Who would you say had good/bad AAA stats that didn't receive enough analysis on here? I watched the AAA All-Star Game last night, and was shocked at how awful the players in it were. Stats in the PCL are particularly a well-acknowledged joke due to the propensity of altitude/heat aided hitter-havens in that league. Reno, SLC, Albuquerque, Colo Sprgs, Tucson, Vegas, Sacramento etc. Then there's the idea that some org's like to keep their better talent in AA, with AAA being there for career minor-leaguers, rehabs, etc. A lot of "old" guys in that game last night.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 12:53 PM) By what criteria is Acta more deserving than Maddon outside of his team is closer to first place in a clearly inferior division? Personally, I don't have much of an opinion formed and I'm always impressed by Maddon. Just sayin' that the writers follow a story, and 1st place (IK 1/2 game out currently) is sexier than 3rd, regardless of circumstance, and the Tribe will be getting a lot more publicity if they're in it in the stretch run, than will a valiant effort from a team that's 10 games back of two superior clubs. Maddon's chances depend on how closely the Rays are competing with the BoSox/Yanks when it really becomes a pennant race.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 12:49 PM) I absolutely f***ing HATE the excuse of there not being enough room on the roster. We know there's 25 damn roster spots Ozzie and Kenny, thanks for reminding us again. Seriously, take some damn responsibility. It's management's responsibility to WIN, not cover your ass on bad signings and bad trades or playing the blame game. Indeed. KW and OZ have been playing an infuriating game of putting the ball in the other guys court on roster moves. The status quo stench of suck permeates the org. Where ya at, Chairman?
  20. MOTY clearly not a given, and likely won't be decided until Sept. I'm guessing Acta would win if writers were to vote at this point in the season. Hurdle in NL.
  21. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 12:19 PM) Whether we're in it or not, we're a stronger team with Viciedo in the starting lineup everyday. Between LF, RF, and DH, he should be able to start 5 - 6 games a week. There is no logical reason whatsoever to not bring him up now that it won't cost us a service year. Exactly. It's bad enough that we're doing nothing to shake up mgmt, apparently, but to do NOTHING with the roster as well is intolerable. Make F***** ROOM!!! Anyone of these will do: DL or send down Morel or Teahen or Lillibridge or Rios or Vizquel or Pierre. One of them, or another player, will likely be sent elsewhere closer to deadline time, so we should only have to do this once.
  22. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 10:16 AM) i hope its Q/V and anybody but Rios but i know that is dreaming This is what I dream about nightly.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) A sandwich pick is still a pretty valuable tool. It's high enough to get a quality player in a good draft. Jackson should get us something.
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 02:19 PM) You could always start with the f***ing hitting coach, too. No objections. The only thing that will really p*** me off for the next few days is nothing.
  25. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 01:44 PM) Doyle got shelled. On a happier note, Reed continues awesomeness.
