QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jun 19, 2011 -> 01:58 PM) Potential candidates include Jack McKeon... I hope this happens so everyone would shut the f*** up about Ozzie and the Marlins. They're talking about old Jack as an interim mgr. They'll be looking for the permanent replacement at season's end.

Twins winning again thanks to a terrible error from the Pads. I'm becoming convinced that this season, once again, has all the indications of a patented second-half Twinkie run. One of the key indications being that teams play like dogs*** against them.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 19, 2011 -> 10:32 AM) It's so hard in my mind. I want the Sox to win, but I want Pierre to fail miserably at everything he does so he finally is benched. But by rooting against Juan, I am sort of rooting against the Sox. You're not alone in this conundrum.

Huge testicular mass from Danksy.

Milledge actually hitting a bit better of late.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 08:26 PM) I like that Rios. We should sign him to a long-term deal.

Woo-hoo! Bout freakin' time

QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 07:46 PM) No kidding. It feels like Greg Walker hasn't hit a double in over a decade. POTD

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 06:27 PM) Hey, a run! Even if it was a weak ground ball, the weakness was what scored paulie. Is it just me, or does Rios have the worst pitch selection ever? The pitches he takes vs. the pitches he swings at is mind-boggling.

Daniel Hudson just bent KW over and violated him.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) As I understand it, he doesn't even own the largest individual share of the team. Did not know that. Who's the biggest shareholder? -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 12:14 PM) Think that's the 3rd time that article has been posted in the last 2 days. The journalists obviously want to see DV on the big club as bad as we do.

QUOTE (OilCan @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) Wade Boggs' minor league stats: http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/p...id=boggs-001wad He more than doubled his XBH from his first year in AAA to the second. Rather slappy before that. As I remember it, Boggs had crazy contact skills, and even crazier line-drive skills. IIRC, he once went nearly an entire season without a single infield popout. Don't think they kept LD% stats back then, maybe I'm wrong. I guess he was in the majors at 24, not 26. At any rate, he was unique, and most comps would also be HOF'ers, ala Carew.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 01:31 PM) Be nice if Viciedo will be in the lineup, and I think he just might be. You gettin' some info, or just a gut?

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 01:14 PM) I haven't seen him play much in the outfield. however, it sounds like we're looking at Carlos Lee part 2. A guy converted to the outfield because he couldn't play third. He'll hit alot of HR's, have a great arm but drive use crazy running around in the outfield. Which would make him a lot like Juan, with an arm instead of a noodle. Played quite a bit in the OF in Cuba, so he's not a total stranger. That said, he's not likely to be a star in the field. I think there's a good chance he ends up at 1B, post Konerko retirement.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 01:07 PM) Pierre stinks obviously, but KW doesn't have the balls to make the move apparently. A good GM would make the move and fire Ozzie if Ozzie b****es about it. Again, it doesn't appear that KW holds sway over the manager as other GM's have over their's. JR is responsible for this convoluted power structure.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 12:44 PM) You cannot be worse defensively than Pierre has been this year. Be careful here. We may be seeing Dunn in LF sometime in the next few days. Should be fun!

Petition to immediately replace OG/KW with Omar or D.Martinez/Hahn
ILMOU replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
JR has made this bed. For me, in a nutshell, I still like KW, but he's a streak hitter who's in a slump. Some of that slump is at least partly due to Ozzie, and his too-powerful position in the org. - Kotsay over Thome, Swisher 2 due to clubhouse chemistry, Pierre acquisition, etc. Overall, I still think he's pretty good. The Lexi and Tank acquisitions are not small potatoes, and they reflect savvy scouting of Int'l FA's. BoSox spent $100M on smoke-and-mirrors Matsuzaka, Chapman cost the Reds a fortune they don't have. Ozzie is also a mixed bag. I generally like the way he handles starting pitchers, bullpen and clubhouse. Absolutely despise his run-scoring philosophies. I'd like to see KW operate the franchise without the burden of the latter, no matter who the manager is. Frankly, I don't get the Rick Hahn love. Seems like backup-QB syndrome to me. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 11:49 AM) I said this last week, but it sure seems like KW's way of throwing Ozzie under the bus. Or at least putting the onus on Ozzie to make a decision that's patently obvious to everyone else. But sadly, it underscores the REAL problem, which is that KW doesn't have the full authority to do this on his own.

QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 01:00 AM) No. Only opposite field doubles. Get a grip. Oh, please. I pointed out the oppo hits because there's a huge % of folks here who think he's the all-or-nothing, pull-happy, strikeout-king type. He isn't. He's a high-average, line drive machine with a great approach. And he's quickly learning that a lot of pitchers would rather deal with the next guy in the lineup and taking his walks. Kid'll have growing pains and plenty of bad days. And that will still be WORLDS better than what we're getting from our LF today.

no faith and no patience in this organization

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 08:40 AM) I really don't understand how Viciedo isn't thought of as a top 10-20 prospect in baseball. Indeed. But I'd imagine if a list were made today, he'd be getting a lot more love from the experts. -
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 08:00 PM) Kuhn, 2/4, 2B, 3 RBI. Hitting .369 no big deal. Kuhn has been amazing. Gotta get a look at him in Charlotte soon.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 07:36 PM) Even when just focusing on Teahen, the fact is, Viciedo isn't going to replace our current infield or Dh, which is where Teahen is being used. Only shot is 3b but his defense can't hold there and we've moved him away from it twice in 2 years. I can see DV at the DH once a week against a lefty. If you gave him one day a week off (except for PH duties, especially for Dunn against LHRP's) that would leave Pierre in LF 2 days a week, for the near term, and JP might even be a better player in that scenario. His value as a pinch runner alone might be more than what Teahen's bringing to the table in his current role. But again, it's rather moot.

QUOTE (Real @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 07:30 PM) wow, Poreda cleared waivers Let's get him in the system again. Couldn't hurt. Hell, we promoted Nevin Griffith for some crazy reason. That says plenty about our farmhand hurlers.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 07:28 PM) I really hope they wouldn't call up Viciedo to sit on the bench like last year again. I so hope they wouldn't do that. Can't argue with that. If you give Ozzie a JP type of player, he's going to play him more than any of us want I suppose.
