  1. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 04:49 PM) Make that 2 HR on the day for Viciedo. Well, we scored a run today, and it was actually enough to win, so I'm sure Ozzie still loves his "mix". F**K his F***KIN MIX!!!
  2. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) lol the kid looked desperate WOO-HOO! E-F***KIN-LATED that we're .500 finally.
  3. Viciedo 1-1, HR & BB
  4. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 03:44 PM) Karros is a dumbass that was right down the plate. Why is Dunn our 3 hitter again, exactly?
  5. QUOTE (MAX @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 01:39 AM) I'm hoping they persuade Mark to stay, and let Edwin walk. Its a damn shame we don't have Hudson here to provide the club with some financial breathing room. If we did, we could take on yet another major acquisition, though that hasn't been working out so far this year. If they let mark go, they need another lefty. Sale? Some free agent? His name is Philip Humber. MB will be back, and Sale will be starting. Edwin, he gawn. Danks is a likely trade candidate, IMO.
  6. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 07:29 AM) Yep, Yankees and Mets. Here too, unfortunately.
  7. Jimmy, Longshot, ElGonzo, Kevo, Parker, Bob, etc. Sounds like there'll be a few of us out there tonight, and for the series. I've got obligation for tonight's game, but I was wondering if any of you will be going to Thursday afternoon's game and want to meet for a soda beforehand. There's any number of sports bars in the immediate area that are pretty much the same, so let me suggest The Sports Column at 1930 Blake Street (stone's throw from home plate) at around 11:30-noon. I'll be wearing the red '71-'75 cap. I'm sitting in the WellsFargo club level tonight, but on Thursday, I'll be getting a ticket at the Park, or scalping something cheap just outside, which should be easy on a weekday afternoon. I'm posted this in each of our threads to make sure we see it. Don't know how to merge, sorry. Hope to see you Thursday!

  9. QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 02:28 PM) De Aza would probably help the team more since his line is very close to Viceido's now and he plays better defense, can steal bases, has more experience and is left handed. We need runs, and DV drives em in.
  10. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:31 PM) I thought for sure Kenny would recall Harrell for the 17th time. I'm glad we're getting a look at someone else. Santiago is semi-intriguing. And Sale is rounding into form nicely. There's nothing that has happened this year that will prevent him from being an effective starter for us next year, when we actually need one.
  11. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:16 PM) You can easily pin this loss on Dunn. Twice he came up with two on, and he also started an inning late when we desperately needed at least one run. Agreed. And you have to wonder why Ozzie has him back in the 5 hole when AJ has looked better at the plate than he has in years. That alone may have made the difference on a day like today, considering the man-on-3rd-one-out situation after Paulie knocked in our only run.
  12. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 09:09 PM) De Aza on fire in June... .348/.408/.573/.979 Brings his season numbers up to .308/.365/.485/.850 as of last night. And he went 3 for 5 with a triple tonight. He'll be the extra defensive replacement/PR/PH we'll want to put on the playoff roster as we'll only need an 11 man staff. Seriously though, do you think he can be part of the mix for leadoff options next year? Dude kinda old. Is he exceptional in the OF, or merely good? I haven't seen too much video.
  13. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 05:40 PM) Don't forget to blame the players association. Selig started drug testing in the minors long before the players union agreed to it. He isn't innocent by any stretch but he tried and it took congress to get the MLB players to agree to it. There will also never be a blood test due to the union unless congress acts again. HGH will continue to be used by the players who can afford it. It takes a greater quantity and frequency to achieve the results with HGH as opposed to anabolics. Totally agree with you on the huge role of the PA/Fehr etc. Maybe I'm too much an optimist, but I don't think the Union has the MLB by the short and curlies the way they had in the past. It shouldn't be too hard to publicly humiliate the PA with a "what have you got to hide? stance", and perhaps gain sympathy with a "the risks are too great for all of us, to go through another painful watershed, if we don't become a leader among the major sports in PED testing" argument. The continued HOF snubbing of a whole generation of the best statistical players we've ever seen will only get uglier. In short, I believe blood testing has a chance to become a reality.
  14. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 09:06 PM) He had another RBI later on in the game, BTW. Now tied with our old friend Gartrell for the I.L. lead in RBI's.
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 08:56 PM) With 3 more whiffs today, Adam Dunn has now K'd 96 times in 227 at bats. That's a K% of 42.3. Exactly the same percentage that all-time single-season whiff champion Mark Reynolds K'd at last season. We've still got half a season to go. But unless Adam Dunn does something incredibly extraordinary from here on out, I feel confident in saying that year 1 of Adam Dunn era on the Southside has been less than exemplary. We gotta just hope at this point, it would seem, that Adam gets it together, and since AJ has been a rather pleasant surprise of late, he deserves to stay in the five hole for a little while, IMO. Haven't seen him this confident at the dish in some time. With Tank up soon and Pierre gone, lord willing, we can more easily afford to at least cut back on Dunn's AB's slightly, when we use DV as the DH against, perhaps, half of the lefty starters, or otherwise.
  16. Patience, grasshopper. I'm generally a cup-half-full kinda dude, granted, but I think Pierre is playing himself out of action quickly. Teahen's HR yesterday makes the decision more obvious for Ozzie, hopefully. A semi-power lefty as a PH and occasional rest for Q/Paulie may have some usefulness yet. A countdown aspect to this thread, not a new thread, might be appropriate. How many days is it now, exactly, till we effectively exclude an earlier year of FA for Tank? Countdown to TANK...or perhaps nothing
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 07:34 PM) That's about the only option other than playing him. I would've called a pitchout on the 0-2 count when Werth stole 2nd. Of course, that would've only exposed AJ even more when he was safe. So maybe not a good idea.
  18. Didn't look at everything to see if this has already been posted, from an article about Paulie and the HOF a couple weeks ago: Ozzie Guillen told reporters before Sunday’s game. “And by the way, P.K. did it clean. There’s no doubt he did it the right way.” Granted, Ozzie's not Gospel, but why would he put himself on the line in this way if it weren't true?
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 01:44 PM) Jim Parque I agree that the eye test is not infallible, though Ortiz does have a skull the size of a hot air balloon.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 01:09 PM) 2.) I hate the 'R' word and the other 'R' word. Just seeing them kind of sicken me and make me feel bad about society. The other 'R' word?? ...Rios? jk
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 01:25 PM) I hate your sig because it makes me pine for a location that offers such greatness. Those are happy hour prices at the local dive, but they have 2 four-hour Happy Hours daily to accommodate the shift workers at the Coors brewery.
  22. This thread is just another reason why blood testing/storage needs to be a significant part of the next CBA, and the owners need to stick to their guns on this. It's a farce that MLB would have us believe that the game has been completely cleaned up by the current testing procedures/penalties. Probable reality, however, is that 90% of fans believe this hooey, or don't care, and it's only the hard-core junkies like ourselves that give a damn.... ....until the world discovers that a lot of folks are cheating again with stuff that doesn't show up in urine. HGH is only one of many substances available that fit this bill, and the science of cheating will likely always be a step ahead of the testing. Which is why the storage of the blood is such a vital aspect of any program. There will be a palpable fear on the part of the cheater that they will be exposed eventually, and made a pariah, even if they're getting away with it today. I've made my own speculations, but won't start a thread over it.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 07:46 AM) The raft is wearing #14... Are those 1890's-esque ladies undergarments that Pierre and Rios are wearing? Good stuff, Stever! EDIT: Oh wait, I just noticed those were Ozzie's arms.
  24. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 10:45 AM) what's the closest we've been in the last 2 months? Seems like 2-3 games under and then bam, down to 5 under. Not sure how the Nats are going to respond to riggleman, but lets hope it throws them for a loop because they've been sizzling. 2 under is as close as we've been since 11-22. Need a better performance from EJax tonight.
