  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 03:33 PM) Honestly, the more realistic lineup decision they can make right now is sending down Morel and calling up De Aza. It gives you more flexibility with pinch running and allows you to bench Rios once a week without having to make Lillibridge face RHP. I don't mind that, but if we do that, I'd also like Lilli sent down to make room for DV. Margalus at SSS agrees with us among others, I mean it just makes too much sense. I'll never understand why this team was so hesitant to inject some new blood.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 03:26 PM) Don't forget that Morel in a platoon role is even more ridiculous since he's terrible against LHP. Totally. Their inflexibility in making ANY roster changes to help the offense is mind-boggling.
  3. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 03:23 PM) My first thought at TH was triple header. Glad Danks is back though. Yeah, except that Thursday is an off day - he's pitching on Weds against KC. Sun-Times boo boo.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 02:34 PM) I agree that if Brent isn't the starter, he needs to be sent down. Omar is just fine as a D-replacement and occasional starter. Yes, it's totally ridiculous if Morel is now in a platoon only against lefties plus d replacement. Morel NEEDS the 4 AB daily, because his future, if he has one, is not as part of a platoon. Meanwhile, DV can actually help the team with his bat, and will learn more against MLB pitching at this juncture, even if playing 4-5 games/wk. Omar covers the roster holes as you mentioned. This seems unbelievably obvious.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 11:02 AM) 596 for Big Jim. and a freakin' monster it was.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 07:08 AM) On DirecTV they all are offered in HD. I had RCN a couple of years ago, and they only had one game a day HD. As long as the rain stays away, DirecTV is pretty awesome for sporting events. I'm stuck with Comcast, as I live up against the face of a mountain, and DirecTV doesn't work w/o a southwest view. But good to know for when I move out.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 11:01 AM) Hitters who have excelled under Walker Dye Thome (for his age) Lillibridge (well, for 2 months this year...compared with Braves) Konerko Quentin Ramirez (compared to expectations upon signing) Rowand (compared to most of the last 3-4 years, he had a couple of really good years in Philly when healthy) Crede Uribe Pablo Ozuna I'll give you Quentin, and maybe Uribe. (and made the edit above) The others don't really meet the criteria I established. Dye had a couple of monster years with KC, and was finally, fully healthy again when we got him, though I can see a case being made there.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 10:47 AM) If anyone should be going after Marmol, it's the Tigers or Twins. I could see either of those possibilities, Twins especially, if they decide to be buyers. Where, as you say, it would be priority #10 for us, it's probably the number 1 issue for the Twins.
  9. Third consecutive start for Teahen. If this is the new reality, then there's truly no reason not to put Morel back in Charlotte to get 4 AB's daily, and bring up DV or ADA. As long as Omar is on the roster, he's all the backup/def. replacement we need.
  10. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 10:20 AM) He's got great stuff, but isn't consistent. Yesterday was an example of what he could do when he puts things together, but more often than not, he leaves you wanting more. The White Sox do lack a true ace, but I doubt Jackson is anything more than a #3 type of starter. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 10:37 AM) If Boras wasnt his agent, I would be all about trying to keep him. However, Boras is going to take him to the open market and attempt to get him paid next season. The White Sox do not compete on the open market with Boras clients, they never have. So at this point, it is about getting something of value from him as opposed to letting him walk and hopefully getting a decent draft pick. But then again, draft picks havent been much of a boon for the White Sox, with a few exceptions here and there These
  11. As talented as he is, we have plenty of quality already in our pen, and Addison Reed isn't too far away. Not enough of a need to justify the likely high cost, IMO.
  12. I don't know that Walk is a major problem with the Sox offense, but to imply that he's been as good as his craft as Coop is frankly ridiculous, IMO. For my purposes of evaluation, let's look at the players who have who have spent significant time in other orgs. but had their greatest success with the Sox. In the Coop column: Thornton Humber Contreras Loaiza Garland Cotts Pollitte Jenks Floyd and others I'm certainly forgetting In the Walk column: Quentin, maybe Uribe. Am I forgetting anyone, cause seriously I can't think of any. Paulie, maybe, but he was just getting his feet wet in the Reds/Dodger orgs. You've made some good points in defense of Walk, but the criticism of Coop is rather hollow. He's second only to Duncan, and it's not a distant second.
  13. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 08:51 PM) Apparently he was very pissed and still is about being demoted. He and his wife had given up their leased apartment when he went up to Charlotte. Now they're living with another couple. The White Sox at least had the decency to fly him back, albeit on a red eye, to Birmingham. That blows. I wonder when they took his Charlotte photo - he looks pissed. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...&pid=518906
  14. Kuhn 2-2, now at .373. They really need to give him more of a look in Charlotte than the lousy 7 games he just returned from. The IL and Southern League aren't that far apart.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 05:07 PM) He pitched like Buehrle today. He got ahead, kept the game moving, and pitched to contact. You're right. Scattering 9 hits, only two K's, and 9 innings in 101 pitches. Downright Buehrlesque.
  16. Papa Fata** not nearly as good in non-save situations. Have a day JP!
  17. At the risk of a re-jinx - Is Q! finally out of his dormant state and ready to carry us again for a few weeks? T'would be real nice. If nothing else, the value of our two most-discussed trading chips has not been hurt these last couple of days.
  18. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 04:26 PM) had to join the game late... is Jackson Fastball velocity higher than usual today? Gameday has his fastball at 99 on that last double play. Impressive.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) Bunting in the first? Goodness Was Lexi on his own there?
  20. Oh. Hopefully a few of those will be hi-def for us. Tomorrow's on GN actually so we're good there. I'm rather disappointed with how few of the Extra Innings broadcasts are hi-def. Seems like they all should be, given that the local broadcasts of the games are all (or predominantly) in hi-def.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 12:26 PM) MLB Extra Innings is comp for a week I believe. I've got DirecTV and it starts on channel 720 MLB Extra Innings doesn't have access to Fox games. Sorry, no dice.
  22. If the Twins don't come back to win this division, it won't be because of all the bats they're missing from the lineup - their pen blows.
  23. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 09:41 AM) Today the game is on FOX. Looks like I get the coverage here. Maybe regional though. Sunday it's on WGN. E Jackson throws today for the Sox and Phil Humber tomorrow. Let's sweep You lucky Montanaganders! Us Coloradoites are stuck with BOS-TB.
  24. QUOTE (South Paw @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 08:13 AM) his OBP is .307 right now so even if he reaches .270 BA by the end of the year, his OBP will probably be closer to .340 than .370 Yeah, unless his walk rate goes up a lot as well, he'll be in the .340 OBP range with a .270 BA, and that wouldn't be too terrible were he to get there. I hope he hits well enough that Ozzie could possibly be weaned off the Juan Pierre teat as a leadoff man, but I know Gordo would have to hit at least .450 til the end of August for that to happen. I'm looking forward to Ozzie bringing JP back to the Marlins next year so another fan base can wonder why a wash-up gets the most AB's on their team.
  25. QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 08:25 PM) There's a guy down in AAA easily outhitting Viciedo. In 83 games he's scored 75 times and knocked in 66. He has a .427 OBP and his OPS is 1.006. He's a big strong left handed bat and he can even run and steal some bases. His name is Brandon Allen. I don't hear everyone saying that he needs to come up now because he's gonna tear up Major League baseball. He won't and neither will Viciedo. Maybe, down the road, in 2-3 years they might be big-time hitters. Brandon Allen is 25 and playing at altitude in Reno and in a ridiculous hitter's league. Not comparable.
