  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 10:17 AM) FWIW, Peter Gammons was on a Boston radio show this morning and said he expects Ozzie to be fired during the ASB. He said he may be managing the Marlins in a week and also mentioned KW knows his ass is on the line as well. I'm guessing, hoping, that PG has more than just a hunch. We'll know soon enough, I suppose. It will be a sad end to a great era of White Sox history, but at some point change is the only option, and the only thing that has a chance at instilling urgency in a not-quite-ova season.
  2. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 07:42 AM) What is all of debating about? Someone just post the record against our main conpetition, the Twins, over the last few years. That should be enough for anyone. Should be, yes, but that wouldn't allow the cherry-picking that fuels these inane debates.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 06:14 AM) In the back of their minds, they just EXPECTED the Twins to come back yesterday and that the game was far from over, you just had a feeling, despite all the good vibes from the offensive explosion. Someone wrote something to that effect in the game thread, and they were right on target with their prediction of an impending implosion. I'm just shocked that one of our own would predict such a demise and jinx us like that. In a gamethread no less.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 09:53 PM) Okay, that's it. Jumping is the only logical choice for self-preservation of one's sanity. It's at least time to get the Converse High Tops out of the closet and lace 'em up.
  5. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 09:08 PM) Mauer has no clue against Sale.... Sale has a very high ceiling and should be groomed to start next year. IMO, he has the most potential to become a true ace on our staff.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 05:06 PM) I love Mark as much as anyone on this board outside of Rowand and Heads. But this organization is bigger than Mark. By AL standards, he's a #4 starter. If he wants $12 million a year for another 3-4 years, see ya! If he's willing to take a discount or if you can get a piece or two that will help you well into the future, you do it. Baseball is a cruel business. No room for sensitivity or nostalgia. Just a guess, but I'm thinking Mark will probably only want to commit for a couple more years at a time anyway, maybe with a mutual option on a third year. Works well for both parties with a shorter commitment. A #4 starter? That's at least 1 level too harsh. You must love a whole lotta teams' staffs.
  7. Leading the IL in hits, RBI, total bases. Near the top in pretty much everything else.
  8. This is the rare time when I actually think the Sox have a better chance of improving from within. Wouldn't mind too much to see a pitcher dealt, though, if the price is right. Whatever we do for the rest of the season, I'd like to get a good look at De Aza soon, in addition to Tank, of course. Lilli never hit in the high minors the way De Aza has this year, so maybe this guy deserves a real chance, especially if he's able to play all the OF positions. Sounds like his career was delayed by injury, so who knows, could be a diamond in the rough? If nothing else, he could be part of the bench mix next year. I'll be watching this Beachy character tonite vs. Phils.
  9. We've got room for him in the pen next year with Sale likely moving to the rotation. Pitching is really not going to be our big issue going forward the next couple of years. Scoring runs is, and will be.
  10. Gwinnett Braves just intentionally walked him in the 3rd inning to get to our clean up hitter, Flowers. The entire world knows he should be in the Bigs. Flowers delivered a 2B BTW.
  11. He needs to be on the team starting after the break. Period. Find a way, be creative like they were with the 6 man rotation.
  12. QUOTE (OilCan @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 05:34 PM) Dayan does Charlotte! 3 run HR so far. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...ox&did=milb Gotta be up at the ASG break, right? RIGHT!!!???!!!
  13. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 12:52 PM) His ISO? Seriously? Should I start complaining about Dunn's stolen bases too? The point is that he's not getting himself to second base either with the bat or his legs, so his usefulness as a leadoff hitter is questionable, and his OBP over a time period is his ONLY quasi-acceptable stat, so yes, that is cherrypicking.
  14. I only want Albert if they'll take Rios contract with it also.
  15. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) Look dude, fine I just don't think he's sure handed(yeah here comes the stats). I don't have a man love with lexi that's all. Being a Latin player I know how some Latin players are raw and aren't the smartest in the field(baseball sense), that's.what I get from Lexi. Hey if you all think different I respect that but I don't always look at stats to see things, they can be deceiving, but hey to each it's own Lexi is struggling badly right now, and he has been ever since he was moved out of the two hole in the lineup. I'd like to see him moved back up, personally.
  16. QUOTE (since56 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 07:13 AM) The Twins could pass us in the standings when this series is over. The Twins series is Huge for this point in the season. And since we'll have four days to talk about it when it's over, for the sake of our collective sanity here, let's hope it goes well. At least I like the fact that Humber gets us started tomorrow. He's unsullied with the tip-yer-cap mentality we have with that hated bunch.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 10:56 PM) All this KW hindsight s*** is getting ridiculous. Needed a big lefty bat coming off 05. He got it. Had a solid CF prospect in the system to replace Rowand, didn't pan out. It's not like he knowingly left CF to what it ended up being. And none of this even brings up how terrible and overpaid Rowand has been since. This.
  18. QUOTE (since56 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 05:12 AM) He didn't succeed enough to stick now did he? He never had a chance - it was just the proverbial "cup of coffee", the team getting a look at him vs. big league pitching. He hit .308 with an .840 OPS. Not exactly fail.
  19. QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 10:37 PM) Exactly. That's why De Aza is more help right now. He has a lot more experience and is hitting about as well and other facets of the game are better. I didn't say that De Aza's career would be better. He's on his fourth year at AAA, he's less likely to succeed against a totally new group of pitchers.
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 09:37 PM) I think you're right. I just think (well at least me, anyway), that too much is going to be expected of him from the get go. He'd be an obvious upgrade over bums like Pierre and Dunn. But this offense has too many liabilities for one man to override. I fundamentally disagree with this mentality, sorry. Of course, one guy can't plug 4-5 black holes in a lineup, but incrementally, one player CAN make the difference between a few close losses and a few close wins. This division figures to be CLOSE, and those few games may well make the difference.
  21. QUOTE (since56 @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 06:24 AM) Don't project the kid so high. He has no glove and he has had a shot or two at the majors already. I hope he works out well, but Pujols, Cabrerra,Gonzales? Just as possible he is Rob Deer, Or ( heaven forbid ) Adam Dunn. Let him progress. He could be A Carlos Lee. You should follow our prospects more closely. He has only succeeded in his only shot at the majors.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 08:35 PM) I fail to see the Torres/Harrell comparison, and those two aren't even like each other. I don't recall Harrell ever putting up the numbers at the higher levels that Axelrod has done in the past couple years, peripheral-wise. I meant similarities in the way the organization probably views them. I don't think Axlerod will become a Plan A for next season's rotation, no matter how well he does at Charlotte.
  23. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 05:04 PM) That Dylan Axelrod sure learned how to pitch at some point. He looks like our #6 or #7 next year. He has Carlos Torres/Lucas Harrell similarities. I hope he can be a little better. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 05:30 PM) Dayan is just stupid good. We gotta get him on the 25 man, somehow. Have Dunn, Rios, Lilli, and Omar each get a 15 day DL bogus injury/vacation consecutively between now and Sept. when rosters expand.
