  1. Gotta believe Juan knows his days are numbered, barring a dramatic turnaround. It will be interesting to see how he responds. I'm guessing, if he gets on base, he'll be stealing no matter what, and likely running into more outs.
  2. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 10:12 AM) How was he not accurate? Chavez has changed the laws and their constitution to give himself more power, and a potentially "permanent" presidency. The "elections" he won are largely regarded as a farce. Of course, Musharaf was doing pretty much the same things in Pakistan, and all the time as our "ally". Plenty of hipocrisy to go around.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 09:56 AM) If they did go to 15 teams in each league, what do they do about the odd number scheduling? Do you have an interleague matchup every week? Or does one team get a series off at a time? You'd have to have at least one team playing interleague all the time. Having a series off would make the season even longer, which is already a problem, and every team has to play every Fri, Sat, Sun, at a minimum for economic reasons.
  4. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 05:08 AM) I'd like to agree with you, but over the past week or so J4L has taken it to a whole other level between his hate on the Sox organization and his NBA talk. At least I believe that greg actually believes this because he just likes the white sox so much. Personally, I used to think J4L was a purely negative crackpot, but he's grown on me a ton. I now really appreciate his insight and his Rowand-like passion. Sometimes he gets a bit carried away with emotion, as most all of us do (guilty here), but there's no questioning his fanhood, IMO. You CAN love the team, and still despise the folks in charge. I don't fall into that camp entirely, but it's a completely valid viewpoint. This board wouldn't be half as much fun w/o he or Milk.
  5. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 12:29 PM) Phillies are looking for RH hitting outfielders. Alex Rios...? Phillies are too left-handed, we're too right handed. I wouldn't completely rule out something centered around Tank for Domonic Brown. Unlikely, I know. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...ws&c_id=cws They gotta do SOMEthing with the Tank soon, and they know it. At least the questions are being asked. I'd say the pressure really is on JP right now more than any other player, and Ozzie can't stand by him forever. Someone seems to have forgotten that Juan hasn't been DFA'd, yet: "That's going to be the trio of Chicago," said Viciedo of an outfield including himself, Quentin and Rios, with Quentin potentially moving back to left.
  6. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 08:54 PM) Yep, he was impressive. Effortless, easy delivery of that 99 MPH fastball. That get's me amped.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 12:05 PM) Good stuff about Reed. I'll take anything we can get. Well, we need another righty in the pen. This kid is clearly on the fast track, looking at the brevity of his stops. I still think KW will try to add a pen arm before the deadline at least, but who knows? Too early for a "what would you add?" thread, but really, I don't see or want any realistic upgrades in trade other than RHRP help, given that we haven't, and shouldn't, lose faith in our struggling players at those positions, with the possible exception of Pierre, who we might actually have a replacement for. But that name, Addison, well he better get a nickname, cause that's a little too Cub.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 08:49 AM) The only fluxuations he had were to obvious injuries. Exactly. I have family in Houston, and I can tell you that many folks down there have been suspicious of Lance even before this season's resurgence. I don't pretend to know any details, or if there's any substance to it, but for many Astros fans his performance this year is a confirmation of their suspicion. ( And granted, there's a healthy dose of bitterness there as well)
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 07:33 AM) The biggest difference is that Konerko didn't have the big lull that the other guys had. Also, never been rumors or dramatic fluctuations in his stats. Never been in decline and told that he was "done" or nearly done. That desperation has not been part of Paulie as far as any of us know. Doesn't fit the profile, for me, anyway.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 11, 2011 -> 11:47 AM) It's not like Santos has been pitching his entire life...he's one of the five least experienced pitchers in baseball, if not #1 in that category. I think letting him absorb HUGE defeats and numbers of pitches thrown in the 3 bad outings that Sergio has had this year has been more deflating for his confidence than if Ozzie would have had the earlier hook. It's one thing if Santos had been the closer for 2-3 seasons, it's only been 4-5 weeks though, in this case. When you just have that feeling in the pit of your stomach that the guy's just has ZERO confidence out there...well, obviously the opposing batters sensed the momentum of that entire inning and it became a self-fulfilling prophecy. Especially when you're down to the last batter (in the LAD game) or strike, you have to sense the other team is going to start feeding on the blood in the water when any life is breathed into them. You have to cut off the arm or leg to save the body in that situation. We'll see what happens, but personally I feel even less confident now in Santos because of the way Ozzie has handled him since he became the closer. Another interesting viewpoint. Obviously, there are several sides to this, but it's clear to me that Ozzie's tougher in-game decisions have been overwhelmingly wrong at a very high percentage this year. Going back to the Soxtalk v. Ozzie thread that J4L had a few weeks back, we're ALL killing Ozzie in 2011.
  11. QUOTE (MAX @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 10:13 PM) I think he was just hurt last year and never got it going. Yeah, I know that's a possibility, but what can I say? For me, Berkman totally fits the profile.
  12. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 10:24 PM) While tonight's game sucked a**, at least PK is flat out raking. If somehow this teams pulls their collective head out of their a** and makes a run at the division title, PK could be an MVP candidate. I usually disagree with Hawk, but he's right on when he says that even though he's in his late 30's, Konerko is just starting to completely figure it out at the plate. He can easily play 3-4 more years after this one. He's 35 - that's mid not late. Hits like he's 28, runs like he's 82.
  13. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 11, 2011 -> 09:49 AM) The craziest thing was Pierzynski looking over to the dugout after ball 1 to Sizemore, basically imploring Guillen to immediately pull Santos for literally anyone (at least that's how I read it) and then trotting out to the mound hoping Ozzie would follow. 99% of people watching this game could see that Santos just didn't have it tonight, but Ozzie was going to let him lose this game anyway. Hell, I put in Buehrle on one day's rest to get this last out after watching everything. ANYONE. That's the kind of creative thinking that won a world series, not passively letting someone who had NOTHING bury your team all by himself. We needed one out. he walked three and hit one, and Ozzie didn't even move towards the mound. Your closer just doesn't have it tonight. PULL HIM. In instances where he's not had it in other nights, he gives up more than 1 run. Losing this game was the most ludicrous loss I've seen in a long time. Good call. I was thinking the same thing. I wish AJ would have have just waved Ozzie in for a conversation.
  14. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 09:41 PM) It's just frustating that we had this one in the bag and let it loose.... We had them down to their final strike on 8 pitches.
  15. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 09:21 PM) People on this site will defend anything. This loss was beyond horrible. Ultra-painful. But not season-ending.
  16. QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 02:33 PM) The few games they've played at home this season, they're pretty awful... 7-15 I am aware, but if they get rolling, the home games will help them sustain it.
  17. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 02:01 PM) That was such a WTF signing too. It was like, so you want a guy who hasn't played the outfield in 5 years to play there again? Not to mention the fact he came off a really bad season (for his standards). Three guys whose comebacks this year I don't completely trust. Berkman, Ortiz, Helton. Did these guys all find the fountain of youth, or something else? My cynicism won't subside until Olympic-style blood testing is in the CBA. I just don't buy the idea that things have been cleaned up completely. A more punitive environment has just made fewer players willing to take the risks of staying ahead of the testing.
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 10:37 AM) Cuban Monsters putting up .870 OPS's in AAA don't often put up .950 OPS's in the Majors. Just sayin', I'd still love to see him up here, and if he did put up a .950 I'd have to call a doctor because my erection would last more than four hours. He'd then ask what I took, and I'd say, "I took Cuban Tank". He'd probably hang up. OPS over 1000 since May 1st. Just sayin.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 08:36 AM) Twins weren't going to stay the worst team in baseball for the full season. Still not likely to be competitive in the Central though. I won't completely count out the Twins. One thing in their favor is that they've already played 40 road games, by far the most in the league. They play a huge % of their games at home going forward.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 11:08 AM) SI prints an article about how the cutter has helped pitchers confuse hitters over the last few years. Zero mention of Mark Buehrle at all. 8 consecutive quality starts for 56.
  21. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 02:21 PM) I think he's a prototype leadoff hitter. His only hitting weakness is going to the opposite field. Defensively, he doesn't really profile at any one position, but he has the right character to be a team guy who will play wherever needed. Thanks. Let's hope he makes a quick adjustment to AAA pitching. Gotta believe a promo's coming soon.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 01:21 PM) Winston-Salem Dash This just in: three Winston-Salem Dash were named to the Carolina League All-Star Team when rosters were announced earlier today. RHP Andre Rienzo, OF Jose Martinez, and DH Ian Gac will represent the Carolina League when it takes on the California League All-Stars on Tuesday, June 21, in Modesto, CA. Ian Gac - best name in the org.
  23. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 12:24 PM) That bias was only about 10% of what it is now before the last two months. 25 or so games at the leadoff spot batting sub .200 is unforgivable. The Barons really started rolling once Kuhn was moved there. KW Jr. may have had speed in the past, but it's gone now. I know he missed half of last season with two separate DL stints. I'm certain one was leg injury. Obviously, Kuhn has been putting up great #'s and I figure you've seen him a lot, JPN, so what do you think of his potential? I've heard him projected as a super-utility guy down the road, due to his playing multiple positions in the minors. I'd certainly like to see him in Charlotte ASAP, and if he does well there, part of the mix next Spring Training as we look to fill the immense shoes of Juan Pierre.
  24. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 11:11 AM) The only skill I see in JP right now is the ability to lay down a bunt and run the bases with above average speed (sans stealing bases of course). If that's worth a spot on a roster somewhere, I'd be surprised. If he could steal bases, then he'd be a decent pinch runner that you could march out there every once in a while. Other than that I see absolutely no redeeming qualities in his game, and I wish he was DFA'd. We'd immediately be a much better team overall with Dayan taking his place. Actually, his much-heralded bunting skills have gone south as well.
  25. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) Before that, April 18th, 2009. Too much time. Some ?'s are rhetorical.
