  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 10:04 AM) I remember that, but that was after being a top draft pick. It had nothing to do with improving his draft status and getting to the majors. If he took it after being drafted, how would it NOT affect his getting to the majors? What am I missing here?
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 08:19 AM) Magglio That's what I would have guessed, but I didn't remember. Thanks. For s***s and giggles, here's my partial list of possible (probable?) users that played with Hurt, I know I'm forgetting about a million guys, feel free to help: Maggs Caballo Valentin Bo (didn't he admit it?, I can't recall for sure) Albert Belle (rage explained) Rowand Pitchers: Lil' Bulldog, Parque (+others who could never touch the majors without some help) Fatty Wells (just strikes me as a guy who wouldn't hesitate to gain an advantage)
  3. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 07:42 AM) Well I can think of two big-time guys he played with. One was known as the Horse and one had a mysterious surgery in Vienna. I could name others I was suspicious of, too, but the list would be long. Also this further anoints Frank as my favorite player of all-time. Man I really am gonna try to get out to Cooperstown when he is inducted. Not only a clean guy, but such a good person. Never in trouble outside of baseball. Please refresh my memory. Who had a surgery in Vienna? Thanks.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 05:14 PM) Which is exactly why all of the "outrage" over his contract is BS. This.
  5. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ May 31, 2011 -> 07:59 AM) What did Francona do? I didn't watch the whole game. I didn't go through the gamethread, but it seemed like Francona tried way too hard to give Lester a shot at getting a win. At the 127 pitch mark with the bases loaded in the 6th inning of a 3-3 tie and a right-hander ready in the bullpen, he let Lester pitch to Lexi. Didn't make a lot of sense.
  6. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ May 30, 2011 -> 10:25 PM) +1 Yep. Totally let Lester off the hook. Pitchers must love going against us, knowing that the Ozzeroo will likely take him off the hook at least once a game with bunts and misplaced aggression on the basepaths. It's a freakin' joke. When their pitching coach came out at the 2-0 count to Morel, it was clear he was telling Lester to go ahead and groove it, knowing that Ozzie would always do them the favor of keep the bunt on, regardless. Why not let an improving young hitter gain some confidence by turning him loose in that situation?
  7. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 28, 2011 -> 05:24 PM) Charlotte - http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...ox&did=milb Zaleski is just brutal.
  8. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 28, 2011 -> 05:07 PM) WGN game today had a shot of the dugout and the players around Beckham made him show his face to the camera. Pretty swollen. Might not be back for acouple games or so. At least it ain't a serious injury. Looked bad though That's too bad. Obviously, if you can't see, you can't hit. Maybe play Lilli at 2b til then? Ozzie, rightfully, prefers the Elf in the OF, but maybe not the EOTW for a couple of games. Omar needs to rest.
  9. Need Becks back tomorrow. Omar's looked every bit of 44 at the dish these past few days. Lilli needs to play a bit more regularly, subbing for Alex or Juan or CQ (bumping him to DH for the Mule) until he proves (again) he can't. He may or may not be turning the corner as a hitter, but his number of AB's to this point is probably 30-40 below where it should be based on the struggles of the above. Another case of Ozzie mismanagement. What new?
  10. QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ May 28, 2011 -> 03:59 PM) It's not that I thought Dunn would suck this bad. And, I didn't mind the fact that the Sox signed him. I just knew that they paid him too much yearly and for too long a period because let's face it, Dunn already looks like he's 45 playing in a beer league. Secondly, I knew the Sox needed some of that money for other players - particularly J.J. Putz. That pissed me off to see him go to Arizona for $ 5 mil. a year and ofcourse he's 15 for 15 now. That alone would have changed this season. Kenny did not need to throw that kind of money at the DH spot - and ONCE AGAIN for a guy (Dunn) that was NOT a great hitter. And, even at his best has a skill set that is very very limited. He's the anti-Lillibridge. Actually, the signing looked like a relative-to-the-market bargain, given the money/years that was thrown at Werth the following week. But, yeah, he flat blows, and he's absolutely killing us.
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ May 28, 2011 -> 02:40 PM) Once again, being loyal costs us a game. From the top down, loyalty is this organization's worst enemy. This.
  12. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 28, 2011 -> 02:40 PM) If only we had that fly out with 1 out. Ozzie just doesnt even pay attention. Ozzie deserves to be fired for this game alone.
  13. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 27, 2011 -> 08:05 AM) Honestly, I'd rather trade Jackson then move him to the pen. We have no idea how he'd be in the role, plus you'd be diminishing his value rather quickly. I'd try to move him for a reliever and a prospect. Having said that, I'd keep this six man rotation going for another month or so before I do anything. I wouldn't mind that either, depending on the value he'll have to some team, obviously.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 27, 2011 -> 07:50 AM) Jackson has pitched 61 1/3 innings. Gavin, Mark, and John have all been at 66 or 67. Let's not get crazy here. Not getting crazy, but if we ARE going back to a 5 man rotation, does anyone make more sense than Edwin? I suppose an argument could be made for Danks, but he's got a better chance to be part of the plan long-term, and a demotion could be a problem in that regard.
  15. Jackson's the one who needs to head to the pen, IMO. He's the one who most frequently stresses our pen anyway by not going deep into games. We also don't have as many compelling reasons to keep Edwin "happy", as he's the one most likely to NOT be here next season.
  16. Love getting the win, and I don't mind getting a bit of luck, but it doesn't disguise the fact that we needed a lazy defensive play by their pitcher to exceed the one run mark, again, due to continued offensive ineptitude. -Dunn is lost, and has had no chance in key AB's recently -As others have said, when Rios hits the ball hard these days, it feels more like an accident -Pierre might be sucking a little less this past week, but still blows nonetheless The convergence of these circumstances, leads to me to the idea that none of the above deserves secure, everyday-playing status currently, veteran pedigree be damned. We got a guy in AAA who just MIGHT be special and it's time we found out. He can probably play RF or 1b for us in a pinch right now. Dunn needs to sit at least two days a week right now, and he needs a fire lit under his ass anyway. Carlos and Paulie can get one day off every other week. (Paulie looks like he could use a day off now) I think we can live without the multi-tool talents of Juan Pierre a couple of days a week. My overall point is, it shouldn't be that hard to bring the TANK up and give him 5 days a week on the field. He could have pinch hit in any number of key spots tonight, for instance, on top of that. What are we wasting time with Dallas for when we have a guy who could have a real impact?? Not suggesting any crazy moving of guys to replace Rios in CF, but shouldn't we be seeing the Elf 2 times a week out there right about now?? Otherwise, I'd like to see Dayan pinch hitting for Rios right now in any late inning cluch situation, with an insertion of the Elf at that point. Hoping like hell this is only a very temporary scenario. The roster is being mismanaged badly. Time to s**t or get off the pot with the six man rotation. The offense needs a boost that it's not likely to get from Walk turning one our slumping clowns around.

  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 26, 2011 -> 02:21 PM) Jim Thome didn't work counts? My god, you're out of your mind. Go to Baseball-Reference and do some damn research, you're wasting everyone's time. This.
  19. QUOTE (forrestg @ May 25, 2011 -> 10:23 PM) RIos is our only legitimate centerfielder albeit his hitting is slightly disappointing. Oh, I am aware of this and wouldn't suggest benching Rios.
  20. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ May 25, 2011 -> 09:17 PM) So wait, power hitters who strike out a lot and don't walk are needed on this team? Ha! This kid is adapting quickly, and is our most legit prospect in awhile. His major stats and all his peripherals are heading in the right direction, FAST. He's slimmed down considerably, and seems to understand the professionalism needed to make it as a big leaguer. My only caveat would be the legitamacy of his age, which is huge if untrue, but who really knows? The replacement of Pierre or Rios with what this kid could bring on everyday basis could be a significant boost to the team.
  21. QUOTE (OilCan @ May 25, 2011 -> 05:06 PM) Or Omar F'in Vizquel, WHO IS A SWITCH HITTER!!!!! Exactly. A guy who may not hit a lot of long fly balls, but who doesn't strike out much would have been a better move than Dunn in that critical AB.
  22. QUOTE (OilCan @ May 25, 2011 -> 05:01 PM) THIS. Yet the GM and even worse, the Manager, don't get it. I'm going to be in the extreme minority when I say this: I would rather see Viciedo, Danks, Flowers and Gallagher up on the Big Club and watch them than what I am currently seeing in Dunn, Pierre, Pierzynski, et al. Actually, I think the GM does get it, but Ozzie still has too much say in personnel, and holds too much power generally. Just fire his ass already.
  23. Gotta get Dayan in the lineup. He's ready for the big show, IMO.
  24. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ May 25, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) Bingo! And on another note, how SICK was it to see us march out JUAN f***ING PIERRE in the 8th inning with 2 outs and RISP. We should have just conceded his AB as an out and save us all the pain of watching that easy ground ball we all knew he would hit... Ozzie pinch hit for and with the wrong guy, should have let Morel bat.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 25, 2011 -> 04:32 PM) Brian Anderson was a better offensive player than the version of Alex Rios the last 125 games or so, and he made nowhere near the cabbage Rios does, nor did he ever hit 5th or 6th. His batting so high in the order really hurt today, obviously. Beckham, or anybody would have been a better choice to put behind Paulie. Ozzie needs to get the idea out of his head that Rios is a significant run producer.
