Game Thread: White Sox (61-46) @ Detroit (53-54) 12:05 CDT
ILMOU replied to SouthsideDon48's topic in 2010 Season in Review
Bobby may not blow the MOST saves, but every time it seems as if the team is ready to reach another level, Bobby blows it and holds them back. -
I checked the gamelogs on Baseball Reference for Lexi, and it was actually around the middle of May this season when he started to hit. His #'s since May 15th: .333BA .364OBP .494SLG .858OPS, pretty darn sweet with the D we're getting from him. And really, those are excellent 2 hole numbers. His 2009 #'s from May 22 onward: .296BA .355OBP .424SLG .779OPS His 2008 #'s from May26 onward: .305BA .332OBP .505SLG .837 OPS He's starting to get hot slightly earlier each season. I predict he'll get it going around May 8th next year. I'd like to see how game time temp correlates, if any, but I don't quite have the time. He (and Gavin too) should be hypnotized next March into thinking it's June.

I don't really want Brad Hawpe. Watch him every day here in CO. Not much upgrade, if any, vs. a Teahen/Tank platoon, and an awful fielder to boot. Glaring ineptitude in the field for the Rockies tonight.

DH Game 1: Buehrle (9-8, 4.15 ERA) v Porcello (4-9, 5.50 ERA)

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:16 PM) You've read my mind. He better not F up and put MB's ERA back over 4. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 2, 2010 -> 09:55 AM) What are Jon Lester's contract numbers again? I think that's probably the closest to an accurate comparison...although the very SLIGHT edge probably goes to Lester, but not by much. Anyone else notice how BIG Lester has become this season? I mean, guys fill out in their 20's, and maybe the cancer kept him thinner than he would've been, but he looks quite "different" from before. Maybe the "PEDs in the water cooler" theory that I hold regarding the BoSox has some legs after all...

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 08:45 PM) I challenge anybody (mainly Kalapse) to name 5 better players since the second half of last year until now better than Carlos Gonzalez. CarGo is a true 5 tool stud. Tracy's playing some stupid games with him the way he shuffles the OF (should just leave him in RF), but he'll be regarded as an excellent OF as well as a great hitter before long. The Great Billy Beane goofed big-time on this one. No matter how good the prospects are that he got from the Cards, he had the best player all along in Gonzalez.

White Sox at Twins 7-18 game thread 1:05 first pitch
ILMOU replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2010 Season in Review
Whattaya think guys, just leave Lexi in the 2 hole going forward, and Omar down to ninth, when he plays? -
Cinch it up...well, you know the rest

QUOTE (Real @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 07:23 PM) This is a joke, but we cant hit liriano so does it really matter At least the Tigers getting whooped - now 8-2 Tribe.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 02:02 PM) THIS is what I want to see every day.... Yes, except AJP is still batting one or two positions too high. Jones and Viciedo are both much better run producers.
-
I'll bet that the Twins' players who've been around a few years are thinking that the '10 Sox are reminiscent of their own team in '06 - bad in April and May, got it going big-time in interleague, and then never let off the gas.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 06:33 PM) Morel is 3-3 with a 2B and 2 RBI. AVG now up to .306 He is now hitting .432 over his past 10 games. I'm not so sure I want him traded anymore, though his value must be increasing.

Number 9. Number 9. Number 9. Number 9. Number 9. Number 9. Number 9. Number 9. Number 9. Number 9. Number 9. Number 9.......

QUOTE (That funky motion @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 09:28 PM) Where is the hot spot, to hit it out in this park. Dimensions in straightaway RF don't look too bad, though I hear the park doesn't have good "carry".
-
Alright, try to steal now, Alex. Can't count on MK for an XBH.
-
QUOTE (jphat007 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 09:19 PM) Mercy what a pitch. Who is going tomorrow? We're going to need a long outing. Floyd. Our best pitcher, IMO. He'll give us 8 strong.
-
One of the bigger outs of the season right there, if we hold on.
-
Gotta use Bobby for 4 outs here, no?
-
QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 06:08 AM) Me too! I remember him distinctly because a number of years back, we became Soxtalk members on the same day. I have a question. In the movie "Outcast" Tom Hanks wife thought that he was dead. She got remarried and her name got changed. When she found out that Hanks was alive, which name does she take on since legally she was bound to Tom Hanks? Well, Soxace started out as JeremyReedFan and changed his name only because he got traded. Now that Reed is back, does he go back to his original name? Which one does he take on? Either way, you are a die hard hard Soxfan, and will never be considered an "outcast!" unless you go about 13 miles north......to (the dark side!!!) LOL I think you mean "Castaway", no?

Hawk and Stoney worst broadcast booth in baseball (according to GQ)
ILMOU replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 08:21 AM) As a Sox fan you have to love Hawk. He's been fun to listen to over the years. Vin Scully is the most overrated announcer. I've never liked him. The best BASEBALL announcing team of all time was Harry Caray and Jimmy Piersall. Two guys never had more fun in the booth and it carried over to the broadcasts. Corrected. Couldn't agree more. -
Hawk and Stoney worst broadcast booth in baseball (according to GQ)
ILMOU replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah, that list is crap. Hawk has his faults - moaning about balls and strikes, endless man-love for Yaz etc., but as a Sox fan I wouldn't trade him for any of the more objective (boring) alternatives. As many here have noted, a number of Hawkisms have found their way into the mainstream baseball lexicon, and that's the "most sincere form of flattery". Here in Colorado, I have to endure the god-awful George Frazier as the so-called expert on Rockies' telecasts. Recently, the man actually tried to blame his manager (Jim Frey, I believe) for his total suckage while with the mid-80's Cubs, saying that he didn't know how to use a bullpen. Pathetic. -
